atheist game show

Published July 4th, 2009 by Bobby Henderson

A Turkish television show is offering contestants what it claims is the “biggest prize ever” — the chance for atheists to convert to one of the world’s major religions.

The show, called “Tovbekarlar Yarisiyor,” or “Penitents Compete,” features a Muslim imam, a Catholic priest, a Jewish rabbi and a Buddhist monk attempting to persuade 10 atheists of the merits of their religion, according to CNN Turk.

Paul I agree that Buddhist do not require a faith in God!

Maybe for those who follow the mythical Buddha, but the historical Buddha held no faith in a god.
Hopefully we will be able to watch it somehow in the US. I am dying to see how one is converted. Maybe they have some super secret information that no one knows yet! Like a birth certificate from Jesus or some kind of, oh I don’t know proof of his existence.

Athiests forget they need as much faith as any zealot to say there is no god.

Hilarious and horrifying, like religion usually is. I wonder if any of the hosts realize how bizzare it is for the major religions-all of which have been slaughtering each other for millenia-to be competing for the atheist’s attention, as if each religion is just as valid as the other. The underlying assumtion being, of course, that any religion is better than athiesm, even a false religion!

Pick me! I’ll go on the show, “convert” to buddhism, retain my athiest unbelief, and me & the buddhist athiest can laugh all the way to wherever it is they’ll send me. What are they going to do, torture me to find out if I really converted?

Oh wait, these are the world’s major, holy religions. Of course they’ll torture, they’ve been practicing on billions of people for thousands of years.

It sounds like the beginning of a joke: what do you get when you put a Muslim imam, a Greek Orthodox priest, a rabbi, a Buddhist monk and 10 atheists in the same room!

Overall I think it’s a good idea, think about it the programme will educate Turkey’s overwhelmingly Muslim population about other faiths including atheism. Half of the problem I have with religion is the lack on understanding for anything other then their own religion, all this seems to do is bread fear and hate of anyone different.

According to the show’s slogan, contestants will win “the biggest prize ever… the belief in God”. Wow, I could get that for free by banging my head against a wall until I do some damage!
