Pastafarians read for charity

Published October 27th, 2008 by Bobby Henderson

Penn State Atheist and Agnostic Association member Yasic Naumenko reads a passage from the Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

“We’ve only been flipped off like twice”

This was in Penn State’s The Daily Collegian:

Nat Jackson read passages from the Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster Saturday to crowds walking past the Allen Street Gates.

Before reading verses about how the Spaghetti Monster created the universe, he put on a black eye patch, the required attire for the Spaghetti Monster’s believers.

That text was one of more than a dozen religious books — including the Bible and the Quran — put on display by the Penn State Atheist and Agnostic Association, of which Jackson (senior-anthropology) is president. Passersby could donate money in return for hearing club members read aloud from the book of their choice.

Fantastic – I love to see things like this. You can read the whole article here.

I have been a self proclaimed Pastafarian/Agnostic for years now and have to say that this best piece of advertisement for religious and cultural tolerance in a long time. I do have a question though: Where do the profits of the FSM’s store go to? Could we start funding a serious tolerance campaign? Because if so I’ll throw in $500 right off the bat. This was a great initiative by an Atheist/Agnostic student group and we need to learn from their example and join them. Wish I could have been there. Kudos to them!

“Passersby could donate money in return for hearing club members read aloud from the book of their choice.” Brilliant! Dazzling! There should be a little cash left over from all those religious tax exemptions.

The profits go to the Prophet. He’s saving up to buy a pirate ship. Didn’t you hear? We can all get a ride to spread the word about our Noodly Master.
