I’m a bit confused

Published August 14th, 2008 by Bobby Henderson

I’m a bit confused about this website, and maybe someone would kindly enlighten me… Why take so much trouble to try and dismantle fundamental Christianity if you all sincerely disbelieve it?

I wonder why this whole movement feels like they’re so threatened by Jesus if he’s not real.

  1. Adam says:

What gave you the impression anyone here sincerely believes in fundamental Christianity?

No on is threatened by Jesus even though he isn’t real… Just the idiots who think he is real. (Although threatened isn’t the best word to use.)

It’s amazing how many religious people can’t think outside of their christ-box.

Literate, having a valid (if made of straw) point… Guys, I don’t think this is a troll..

  3. Ubi Dubium says:

Cato – what country do you live in? Here in the US the evangelical Fundamentalists are trying to have their religious mythology taught in the public schools in science classes. That’s what’s threatening.

If the Fundamentalists would just keep to themselves and stop trying to cram their religion down everybody else’s throats, we woudn’t need to be here.

    Relax and have some pasta.

It’s not about being threatened by Jesus, or any other religion. It’s about Christianity’s meddling in secular affairs, and the extremely preferential treatment given to Christianity and ID by governmental organizations to the exclusion of all other faiths and ideas. It also is about the ridiculous acceptance of faith-based Intelligent Design as a peer of scientific theories, despite the fact that faith Based ID has absolutely no observable, logical or scientific basis, being based completely on myth and the supernatural.

The point is, maybe, just maybe, if we can deconstruct the absurdity of a religion, then maybe people won’t suppress intelligent thought in its name. Ignorance in the name of a god is still ignorance.

  6. trans-freak says:

Who says we’re threatened by Jesus? He probaby WAS real. Just not the son of God.

The actual Christians are the ones threatening us, not Jesus. Jesus may not exist anymore, but he’s not threatening us.
So you’re argument of defending threats from a non-existent being therefore we believe in the non-existent being falls through, because I am sure Christians exist. Unless… you don’t. maybe you’re all a figment of my imagination. AHHH! I’M HALLUCINATING XIANS!

  7. mikeb says:

It’s not Jesus, it’s the false belief that, Intelligent Design is actually science which it is not, and the thought of creationism being taught in public school science classes.

  8. Fueledbycoffee says:

Because whether we believe in it or not is a non-issue. We can disbelieve it as strongly as we want, and they’ll still come around trying to change the law. It affects even us atheists.
