English isn't much of a language for swearing. When I studied Ancient Greek I was delighted to discover a single word - Rhaphanidosthai - which translates roughly as "Be thou thrust up the fundament with a radish for adultery."

I thought this probably belonged in serious but couldn't find a spot for it. It's a diagram from Information is Beautiful showing a rough breakdown of different versions of Islam, approximate number of followers, main locations and broad theological overview.

I really like Information is Beautiful's work but this is good even by their standards.

It's very good.

I thought though that the Taliban were offshoots from the Wahabi/ Salafist sect rather than from a different grouping. Certainly their virulent hatred of non-muslims/ women/ gay people/ more moderate muslims/ anything later than the 12th century, is identical to the Wahabis in Saudi Arabia.

Here's a cool website where you can destroy the world, or just damage it slightly.

A quick wikipedia search seems to indicate that the main difference is that Wahabism is, theologically, more oriented towards originalist interpretations of Islam, going back more to the core tenets of the Quran and Hadith. The Deobandi sect that the Taliban are influenced by follow the Fiqhs more.

Yeah? Well Fiqh 'em all, I say.

Trying to come up with something about that situation that isn't funny... drunk pig starts a fight with a cow.

Yeah - sort of funny but not that far fetched over here.

Here's another Australian national news story (last week) - note the brother-cousin reference. It's bad enough to be in croc infested waters retrieving shot game AT SUNSET but because your cousin-brother expected you to?.... Some lifestyle choice that is.
