Hey, I said English, I didn't include the Scots in there.

Funny enough, King George the Third thought that the revolutionary war would turn against the colonies because he though the Scottish and Irish immigrants to the Appalachians would side with the crown. Didn't turn out that way.
"How is it that hardly any major religion has looked at science and concluded, 'This is better than we thought! The Universe is much bigger than our prophets said, grander, more subtle, more elegant. God must be even greater than we dreamed'? Instead they say, 'No, no, no! My god is a little god, and I want him to stay that way.'" - Carl Sagan

Wow, George III really was mad, wasn't he?

Wobastax's birthday makes me feel older than my own birthday does, possibly because I'm so familiar with his account despite it only having 22 posts. I see it year after year and I recognize it and it makes me cry.

Happy birthday Nelson Mandela, 95 today.

Back when Prime Minister David Cameron was a student, the Federation of Conservative Students used to hang this poster around university campuses.

Just remember this when Mandela finally dies, and we hear the weasel words dripping from Cameron's lying shit-smelling mouth about what a great man he was. David Cameron did not always think so.

Happy Birthday BobbyH....

^ Free Nelson Mandela... it worries me that his life has again been taken from his hands, that he may be tired and just be happy leaving after such a life.

Happy birthday Leo Fender, who would have been 104 today.

A sincerely heartfelt happy birthday to all those whose birthdays I have missed in the time I have been absent from here, and also thanks for anyone who wished dear not-so-old Roland a happy birthday way back when. May all your dreams come true, except for Bart's dream about the two barmaids, the squid, and the bath full of jelly (that's gelatin to you Murkins).
