My big fat Pastafarian wedding!

Postby kitan on Sat Mar 23, 2013 2:28 pm

On August 11, 2012, my husband and I got married in a Pastafarian ceremony, conducted by an ordained Pastafarian minister (paid $20 for the certificate and everything!). After examining the laws of the state of Utah (where we live), it looks like a Pastafarian minister would be able to legally marry people with no issue, but we had him get ordained with the ULC too just in case.

My husband's family is very large and many of them are very Mormon. We didn't know how they were going to take the wedding. They chose to think of our wedding as a "pirate themed wedding". My mother-in-law got our nephews some pirate swords, and all the kids at the wedding had a lot of fun.

Our whole wedding party, including our Irreverent (who is a good friend and an honorary member of the party) had pirate swords. And one of our groomsmen wore an awesome pirate hat :D

I just asked my bridesmaids to try to wear something that matched with our wedding colors of red, black, and white for accents...I decided long ago that I didn't want to be the bride that makes people spend hundreds of dollars on a dress they'll never wear again. :)

We did our wedding on a budget. All the decorations were made or purchased by us, his family did the cooking, and our wedding was held in a very nice pavilion at a local park. Our fancy tiered wedding cake was very small, and we got sheet cakes form Costco for the guests. We provided three types of drinks for our guests: Water with lemon, water with limes, and plain water. Altogether, everyone agreed our wedding was very very nice :)

I'm using the "share with public" links from Facebook for these pix. If you can't see them, let me know and I'll upload them to Photobucket.

Our ceremony:

(processional ends)

(to the couple) Are ye ready to walk the plank together and thereby engage in legal matrimony?
(yes)

Arrrrrgh, let us begin!

Dearly beloved Pirates, Wenches and fellow Pastafarians and assorted landlubbers. We be gathered here today to marry this here wench to her pirate.

Let us pray.

Hail Marinara,
Full of Spice,
The Flying Spaghetti Monster is filled with thee.
Tasty art thou amongst sauces,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy jar, tomatoes
(although fools believe they are vegetables).
Holy Marinara,
Chief Amongst Toppings,
Save a plate for us now,
and at about 6 o’clock when dinner is served, if you would be so kind.
RAmen.

Any Scurvy dog who has a problem with this here union should be saying Yarr right about now. Otherwise shut your noodle hole so we can get on with this and get to the part where we get wasted on rum.

Now both of ye say yarr where it concerns you, understood.

Do ye wench take this here pirate to be ye lawfully wedded pirate. To be liking a lot through the good stuff and the bad stuff, to be caring for him in the healthy times and the scurvy times, to be loving him during the times of great booty and the times without, to be having fun together while adventuring at sea and while home in port, and to be upholding the word of the great noodly gospel as long as ye both shall live?

(arrrrgh, I do)

And do ye pirate take this here wench to be your lawfully wedded wench. To be liking a lot through the good stuff and the bad stuff, to be caring for her in the healthy times and the sick times, to be loving her during the times of great booty and the times without, to be having fun together while adventuring at sea and while home in port, and to be upholding the word of the great noodly gospel as long as ye both shall live?

(arrrrgh, I do)

Ye may now exchange the rings, which are shaped in the unending circle of his great noodly appendages.

And now, by the power vested in me by the Flying Spaghetti Monster and the State of Utah, I pronounce you pirate and wench, husband and wife!

Ye may kiss the wench.

May I introduce ye all to the new Mr. and Mrs. -------------!

(applause and such; recessional)

I will be uploading the video when I can - I have to do it when no one's home or everyone's asleep because otherwise people complain about me using all our bandwidth :lol

Fun Fact: Costco refused to write "Touched By His Noodly Appendage" on one of our sheet cakes. The guy in the bakery said it was "against his beliefs". So he wrote "Congratulations" instead.

I wonder if the bakery guy thought "Touched By His Noodly Appendage" is some sort of sexual thing...

Looks like it was a fun ceremony, kitan.
I will honor Monkey in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.

Hey congrats guys - and I love the ceremonial vows.

This has to be the model for all future Pastafarian weddings

Lovely pictures of your wedding Terry. Congratulations. I agree with the other poster who said you should have gotten someone else to do the writing on the sheetcake. Any news on a baby pastafarian? ;)
