Well, before the C64 I had a 16k Speccie, a VIC-20, and a ZX-81. The ZX-81 does not even count as a pocket calculator these days.

The first computer I ever used, though, was an RML-380Z. It was the size of a filing cabinet drawer, and hummed ferociously and got very hot when in use. 56K useable out of 64K, no ROM, so you needed to load a programming environment from a disk before you could use it, and it cost about a grand, which was about the price of a new Mini at the time.

Yesterday I missed David Howell Evans, better known by his stage name The Edge, who turned 51.
Today would have been Leo Fender's 102nd Birthday.

Happy birthday, Leo...

Happy birthday to Star Trek. May you be ever in the forefront of my mind as a paragon of ideas, and as a model for our future.

Happy 37th Birthday, Wish You Were Here!

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
Blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

I remember buying that album in Woolworths. It was completely wrapped in black with a sticker on it showing a hand shake.
The smoke wafted gently in the breeze across the poop deck and all seemed right in the world.
