Yorkshire accent Luxury! My Spectrum only had 48k, of which over 7k was screen memory and system variables. *And* my brother's only had 16k.
Well, before the C64 I had a 16k Speccie, a VIC-20, and a ZX-81. The ZX-81 does not even count as a pocket calculator these days.
The first computer I ever used, though, was an RML-380Z. It was the size of a filing cabinet drawer, and hummed ferociously and got very hot when in use. 56K useable out of 64K, no ROM, so you needed to load a programming environment from a disk before you could use it, and it cost about a grand, which was about the price of a new Mini at the time.
