Jocky was famous not only for his indecipherable Fife accent, but for the fact that when Dexy's Midnight Runners appeared on Top Of The Pops performing their cover version of Van Morrison's "Jackie Wilson Said" (that's Jackie Wilson, as in "Your Love is Lifting Me Higher"), the rather misguided director put a picture of Jocky Wilson the darts player in the background (about 17 seconds into this video).

 I had to watch it with no sound...cannot stand Dexy's Midnight Runners after the torture of having a flat mate who was a fan.
The smoke wafted gently in the breeze across the poop deck and all seemed right in the world.

Superb video that seems to have attracted a few comments on Jocky Wilson. I remember watching him play darts with my nan back in the 80s.

Did he cunningly attach flights to your nan and throw her at a dart board?

Sad news indeed.

I am not a huge fan of the banjo - there are too many bad banjo players around here. So much so that one of my favourite jokes is "What is the difference between a banjo and a trampoline? You take your boots off to jump on a trampoline". But Earl Scruggs was a great player that I could listen to all day (along with Bela Fleck - he does just amazing things with a banjo (<-QOoC)).

Here is another video of Earl playing Foggy Mountain Breakdown with his band. I don't know who the comedian playing the other banjo thinks he is...

Jim Marshall, the guy who shamelessly ripped off Leo Fender, er, I mean designed and built Marshall amplifiers. 88, guilty conscience.

You're just jealous of his big valves.

Jim Marshall never got anywhere near a big valve.

This is a General Electric GM100, typically operated with 2,500V across the plate, and generates about 1kW of power. The heater circuit alone (as in turn it on to 'warm it up') draws 30A at 12.6V. This is a big valve.

"How is it that hardly any major religion has looked at science and concluded, 'This is better than we thought! The Universe is much bigger than our prophets said, grander, more subtle, more elegant. God must be even greater than we dreamed'? Instead they say, 'No, no, no! My god is a little god, and I want him to stay that way.'" - Carl Sagan

^ The *first* thing to go when we moved in here was the Thomas Kinkade Purple Cottages Border Of Light, followed in short order by the Thomas Kinkade Coordinating Purple Wallpaper of Light, and the Purple Paint Accent Wall Of Light.

Still, farewell to an american artist. Image
