Inappropriate songs for TV advertisements.

Postby Roy Hunter on Fri Dec 24, 2010 7:51 pm

OK, here's the deal: you are an advertising executive, you are approached by a manufacturer, what is the most inappropriate song you can provide for their TV advert?

Here is mine:

Canasten Cream - "This Sex Is On Fire", by the Kings of Leon.
"I don't mean to sound bitter, cynical or cruel; but I am, so that's how it comes out." ~ Bill Hicks.
"To argue with a person who has renounced reason is like administering medicine to the dead." ~ Thomas Paine.
"One should not believe everything one reads on the internet." ~ Abraham Lincoln.
"If you're making a political point wearing a balaclava, you're a c***. It was true for the IRA and it's true now." ~ daftbeaker.

Apparently Microsoft used Start Me Up by the Rolling Stones to advertise Windows.

The line 'You make a grown man cry' is rather accurate :haha:

How about an ad for Disney, in which you rename a certain Prince song as: "Darling Minnie"

Okay, so a major retailer wants a song set to images of hetero couples, and it's supposed to inspire holiday shopping. I know, I'll set it to a song about a gay AIDS victim's funeral.

Oh wait, that actually happened.

Seems like a win for Macy's. The gays appreciate the history of the song, The kind of conservatives who hate gays probably never watch Rent.

I'd like to know what product (aside from the CD) you're going to sell with Tori Amos's cover of '97 Bonnie and Clyde

There's a whole list of ones you can't use to advertise those scooters for people who don't walk...

Safety Dance: "If they don't dance then they're no friends of mine"

I'm Gonna Be: "I would walk 500 Miles"

Jump: "Go ahead and Jump"

The Real Slim Shady: "Please stand up, please stand up"

I could go on...

All I know is that the most inappropriate song that I can think of for the first dance at a wedding is Nine Inch Nails' Closer.

Or as far as unfortunate wedding songs go, just try Pearl Jam's "Better Man"

or Billy Idol's "White Wedding" which I can see how someone might think would be a good idea to play, simply based on the title and having not heard the lyrics too closely. XD

Bustin' Out would be a good backing for an ad for condoms.

How not to keep your customers happy. In the supermarket the other day, they were playing "I will survive".

"Go on now, go!
Walk out that door!
Just turn around now‚
'cause you're not welcome any more…"

After the whole debacle with how NBC handled Conan and the Tonight Show, the promos for Jay Leno's return used, inappropriately, The Beatles' Get Back.

Here's a remake using a much more appropriate song.
