Pirate Radio!

Postby Qwertyuiopasd on Sun Nov 07, 2010 3:57 pm

No, not the movie, though it was a good one.

I'm revving up to do a Pirate themed show for my colleges radio (and it's on the internet, so you all can tune in), and wanted to post a thread in here to collect ideas on what to do for the show, besides playing music. Of course, if you have any suggestions for piratical music, this would be an appropriate place to discuss them, but I'm also interested in possibly doing things besides just playing music. Perhaps I could have fun facts about historical pirates, or feature a particular historical pirate every show and talk about them some, or give lessons on how to speak like a pirate proper. Any ideas or resources to help with these kinds of ideas would be awesome!

Thankee kindly! :fsm_yarr:

Yarrr...

Well done matey, yes erm well, where do we start?
Assume you've already got Flogging Molly and The Pogues lined up! If ye be really hungry, how about The Skeleton Crew, they look pretty handy.

Do you want Pastafarian influences?

Actually, I've not heard of the Pogues, but they look like they'll do, especially if they're in a similar vein as Flogging Molly.

For now, I'm going to shy away from anything overtly Pastafarian. I'm not going to deny it if asked, of course, but it's just easier to be simply a pirate, than to try to explain carbohydrate based deities and global warming theories.

 Rectify this immediately. I would recommend Rum, Sodomy and The Lash.

Argh, I would love to, and will try to find that song (It's been suggested to me before), but we're not allowed to swear or play songs with swears in them on the radio. :fsm_angel: Bullshit, isn't it?

Perhaps there's an altered version, though?

This is the link to the website for the radio station for my university. It's very simple and just streams through your media player.

The time slot should be 6pm to 7pm on Fridays, but I still need to hear back from my superior. Hopefully I can broadcast by next Friday. :fsm_yarr:

Also, good to see you back, kaioshin! :shellfish: :shellfish: :shellfish:

Philosophy and Religious Studies. Most appropriate for a Pastafarian, I think. :zen:

I wood serjest:

Friggin in the riggin - Sex Pistols

Death magick for adepts - Cradle of Filth

"We've woven hearts a thorn arbour
Left tear-streaked reason upon the shore
And bereft of compass, star or more
Set out for this world's end
Few at the prow, most slave below
Painting coal a perfect gold
But for all it's worth, the engines slow
Dead in the brine again
Come cabin fever, sodomy on the bounty
Prey to phallus seas
That hiss and foam to douse disease
A storm roars on the way
Blacker than the Ace of Rapes
Dealt out by Death in darkwood glades
Our Ship of Fools, all boards handmade
Sinks dashed by seismic waves . . ."

Oscar Brand sings a lot of filthy shanties, mostly cleaned up.

E.g. The Good Ship Venus

or Bell Bottom Trousers.

These are not pirate stuff but sail-navy songs, which is close.

Maybe a bit notty for your purpose.

Oh, hey, so I suppose I should mention that we're definitely on for this Friday (oh my, that's today!) at 6pm EST! www.wcnulive.com is the link, once again.

Oh, remind me Bart, I want to make up a flyer, and you're good at graphic design and all that, non? Can I get your email in PM to send you the WCNU logo and some specs on what I'd want on a flyer, and see what you can come up with? Thanks!
