Sartorial Splendor Thread!

Postby Qwertyuiopasd on Thu Feb 25, 2010 5:40 am

For my 10k 2.0 post, I thought I'd make a fun thread. I've been meaning to show of pictures of my Piratitude, as I've got a fairly good amateur pirate regalia set up. Of course re-enactors and rennfaire people have better ones, but we work with what we have, don't we?

So, I'm posting pictures of that. And encourage everyone to post pictures of themselves (as they are comfortable) in their full, or partial, regalia. Perhaps just show off what items you have so far, and complain about what you need, and how expensive hats are. This thread will of course lend itself to discussion of piratical apparel, and where to get it, shortcuts, etc. Spread the wealth, and all that.

So, here we go:

Without the coat: The causal Pirate. Also wearing a name tag.

Explaining something about my boots to someone

I also will wear the hat pretty much anywhere I can. So, while in high school, not really much on weekdays. But weekends and vacations, it's on all the time. :fsm_yarr:

Hats are from Captain Jack's Pirate Hats. Very good quality and variety of designs, though expensive, and even more so if you want it waxed and sealed for waterproofing.

I bought the coat and boots from the Pyramid Collection. Besides that and a few shirts though, they don't have too much pirate stuff for men. It's more of a magic/fantasy catalogue for females, really. But online (or not) catalogs are good places to find these kinds of things. My shirt is from the local Party City. You can find some good stuff at local costume shops, but you have to really look. For instance, their "boots" are just plastic tops you put on top of sneakers to make it look like a boot but not really. I'll post a picture of my earlier costume later. *shudders*

But they usually will have a poofy shirt or two that are actually fairly decent.

So, what sartorial splendor can you share?

Congrats on your 10k and on your regalia Capn Qwerty. Even if I have seen it on you in RL, that garb just suits you more and more each day.

Oi be wearin' a Pirate band t-shirt as oi didn't 'ave me full regalia on me due to bein' incognitowe. Oi said "Arrrrrrrrgggggggg" to the brother pirate, but 'e be a little confused. Does ye be knowin' the Turkish for "Arrrrrrrrgggggggg"? Oi knew it be noodly fate that drew us to the 'otel, as this be the nearest bar to us.

In an effort to promote posting of not quite spectacular or not quite finished regalia's (no real regalia is every finished), I am going to post this picture from 10th grade of me and my friend on Talk Like A Pirate Day. The top looks alright, but it's one of those terrible costume tops that would never work with anything else. Also note the boots. They aren't boots. I'm rather ashamed I ever thought those things were good enough to wear.

No boots because the boots my family ordered for X-mas were too big. No costume-worthy regalia because I haven't had enough time between school and my externship to work on the patterns. No hat because I haven't taken a picture of it with my ensemble yet :P

I've made do anyways.

Qwerty, your friend looks more like a Mountain Man all he needs is an axe in his hand.

Very nice Ham.

He has a top hat now. It works very well with the hair, even though he often pulls the hair back so as not to look too much like the mad hatter.
