Modeling is one of my hobbies. In fact it's my #1 hobby above woodworking, rocktumbling and my houseplants.

Got into it soon after I saw Star Trek IV. I thought it would be cool to have spaceships that I made up on my dresser or on a mantle or something instead of a pre-built, pre-finished toy.

That alien is purty spiffy. Do you make these things from scratch?

I don't do models, can't hardly see anything smaller than a bus. I also have a tendency to bust stuff, especially small stuff. One of the consequences of being large, I suppose. My nuncle is into the model train scene big time. He's in a club that has a monster setup, takes about ten guys to run it. Cool enough, I guess, but I'd be more into the Adams Family method (6:10).

I used to share a flat with a guy who did architectural modelling, and modelling for movies and TV. He had a lot of bits and pieces of model kits, bits of plastic, interesting stuff he found in skips, and thousands of different paints. He got me interested in modelmaking for a while.

At the time I was into motorbikes, so I made a few bike models (including a rather spiffy 1:12 Harley Davidson / 1:24 Dennis Fire Tender trike), but unfortunately I lost them along with most of my possessions in the great 'unmedicated girlfriend with accelerant, matches and a grudge' incident of 1991.

Yes. She was sectioned as a result, but she was back out on a treatment order a few months later. I have contacts in Social Work, so I know where she is and how she's doing, but the arrangement is not reciprocal.
