David Eddings dies.

Postby Rainswept on Tue Jun 09, 2009 4:07 pm

I just saw this, he died almost a week ago.

I credit the Belgariad for turning my enjoyment of reading from occasional pastime to a love of books that makes me want to be a professional writer. I've long since lost count of how many times I've reread the Belgariad and the rest of the series. I'd guess at least eight.
I believe it's time for mankind to set aside the crutch of religion and embrace morality born of reason and truth. Those crutches have long since proven treacherous when the ground gets slippery.

I completely agree. I love the Belgariad and the Mallorean.

The Mallorean, not as much. The Belgariad, 100%.

I haven't read much else from him, but now I may have to check it out.

I have not yet read any Dave Eddings.

I must check it out when I go to the library today.

Oh shoot! Definitely my favorite author. I've re-purchased his consolidated set of the Belgariad & Mallorean. I've just finised the Elenium for the second time around and I'm half-way through the Tamuli. I definitely love all of his characters and I think it's awesome how he develops each culture & country and then effectively describes how they interact with each other, ie. the Algars vs. the Murgos, etc. There are points where I feel like he's repeating the same thing, like the same joke about Silk being shifty over and over again. But, if I were to write a 300 page book and multiply that by 10 more - I'd probably do the same thing. Anyhow, this is sad to hear (even though I'm a month late). Thanks for posting this Rainswept.
