[Ubi Dubium]

I made several likenesses of the FSM (pesto be upon him) for our Holiday tree this year. I'm thinking about showing the UbiDubiKids how to make them, but I fear the mess they would make if I taught them how to make pompoms.

Haannnggg on... Making pompoms?!

Very impressive likenesses. I made one once, out of some rubber tubing. He had glowing LED appendages, but my brother ripped the wiring to pieces

I didn't know you could make pompoms. I thought the unverse was created with a fixed number of pompoms, never to change. Sort of like neutrinos.

Of course you can make pompoms! It just makes a terrible mess. Little bits of yarn everywhere.

We even made marshmallows once. (Everybody's response: "You can make those?") It made an even bigger mess. Perhaps anything worth making yourself is going to generate a huge mess. Must be one of those deep truths of the world.

I'd have loved to see the LED appendages. Did you take any pictures?

I read somewhere that making pompoms is an extention of superstring theory, where the strings are wound into a multidimensional 'torus' which, once it has come back round on itself, you can then laterally bisect, breaking all the superstrings and forming a relativistic pompom. No, wait, I didn't read it, I learnt it in nursery.

Sounds like the right way to do it. But then you need to take some kind of quantum scissors to it, and trim it down, leaving little bits of superstring all over your floor. (Which you then clean up with a vaccuum energy fluctuation?)
