Sail Ho, mateys! Prize sighted in Holland!

Postby PietHeyn on Fri Jan 30, 2009 12:20 pm

A Dutch Christian has created a half-sized replica of Noahs Ark. On board is a museum dedicated to the bible and creationism. Visiting towns and cities in Holland, he is trying to spread the idea of creationism in the Year of Darwin.
For more information, visit http://www.arkvannoach.com/ (only partly in English).

According to legend, this ship is supposed to be laden with 7 pairs of each domesticated animal, and a breeding couple of ALL OTHER CREATURES IN THE WORLD! Including dinosaurs!

This bounty should be ripe for the taking by a dedicated crew of pirates. I hope to get in touch with several other pirates via this forum to make it happen.

The plan in broad lines:
-> Assembly in the afternoon close to the Ark's location (either Amsterdam, or if it takes longer to organise, whatever location the Ark will birth).
-> Visit the Ark to scout the location.
-> Drink beer and get dressed in the local pubs
-> After closing time of the Ark, we will strike, boarding the defenseless vessel, hoisting our flag and claiming this ship in the name of the FSM. We might need a ladder or other gear to gain entry.

PS:
- Though plundering and scuttling the ship might sound like a lot of fun, we will not damage anything during the hijacking
- Piratey costume required. Talking like a pirate recommended
- Bringing FSM and/or Darwin/evolution folders and flyers to spread will be much appreciated.

Should anyone in the Netherlands be interested in taking part and organise such an event, please get in touch with me via this thread of PM.

Holland is getting pretty weird lately. Trying to reinforce ancient laws like those on blasphemy, persecuting people for their opinions, etc. I used to be proud on our reputation for being a haven for free-speech and freedom from religion :(.
Hence I would like such an action to focus some attention on the atheist and free people out here.

Thank you for not taking offence! I really do not mean to be rude but there is a fine line between respecting another's view of the world and not being sure of your own. I am not trying to say what yours should be but it is worrying if it is only fanatics who try to spread their word.
Perhaps "I am not really sure- let's all think about it" is not as good a rallying cry as those of some of the loonies with their certainties!

Why would I take offense? Being proud of ones heritage shouldnt mean being blind to its faults.

Then again, is this forum visited by Dutchies at all? Seems to be mostly US based from a brief overview.

Anyway, all hail the FSM! Yaaarrrr.

It is not always easy to tell where people are from.
While that is one of the joys of the internet it can also be a problem, because getting a group to meet in real life seems to be like herding cats .
