Has anyone heard about the characters for the new Star Trek film? Apparently Sylar (can't remember his real name, but he's also on Heroes) is playing Spock, with Simon Pegg as Scotty!

Although I love the idea of Sylar playing Spock. They look really similar.

Scotty was pretty fat in later movies, way fatter thean Peg.

Harold from Harold & Kumar is playing Sulu.

Eomer from LOtR is playing McCoy.

Anamaria from Pirates of the Caribbean is Uhura.

I don't recognize the rest of the cast, but the wiki has them all listed.

My nerdiness didn't fully come to the surface until only a few years ago. As such, my knowledge of, and therefore opinion of, all things Star Trek is very limited. I remember watching and liking Voyager. I never really got into Deep Space 9, as it just seemed to much like a space soap opera for my tastes. I have only seen a few episodes each of the original and Next Generation. I did like Enterprise. It started a bit slow, but it really picked up later on. I have seen none of the movies. I must remedy this terrible atrocity.

Yes, a true mark of real deep-down nerdiness is when you are able to look at a random still photo from the original Star Trek and identify by name which episode it's from. I'm pretty good at that.

See, they're both douchebags, but different kinds of douchebags. We've got the dude who looks like he'd walk down the street mugging at every single passerby (with his perfect stubble), and then we've got Shatner. Granted, one's practically unknown and one wrote the book on douchebaggery, but whatever.

Considering James Doohan was not from the UK at all, I'm willing to give Pegg the benefit of the doubt. My question is whether or not the script is going to be any good. From what I understand, J.J. Abrams has already admitted that he's more of a Star Wars fan. Is anyone else having grave doubts about the upcoming film?

I had doubts as soon as I saw J.J. Abrams attached to it. Unlike the rest of the universe, I've disliked almost anything that he's done.

On a side note... Dear God... Chekhov...
