Why didn't they teach Lovecraft? I wanted Lovecraft.

So late, but I've read the Catcher in the Rye. It was alright, not my favorite.

Gone With the Wind. I know it's a classic, but damn. Ew.
Kaylee: Wash, tell me I'm pretty.
Wash: If I were unwed, I would take you up in a manly fashion.
Kaylee: 'Cause I'm pretty?
Wash: 'Cause your pretty.
(Wash and Kaylee, Firefly, Heart of Gold)

It's a broken hearts parade
And I'm putting my heart out on display
There's no masquerade
Just a funeral march for love today
The band strikes up and they're playing a song
Dressed in black, and we're singing along to the
Broken hearts parade
I've never been better then I am today

I'm gonna agree that Catcher in the Rye is the worst book ever.

Over the years I have read many hundreds, possibly even thousands of books, only once have I failed to finish one.
The offending tome? George Elliots - Middlemarch.
Most of you will never have heard of it. To which I say "Lucky you".
To those of you who, like me, suffered a 'clasic' English education it was a requirement if we wished to accumulate those brownie points known as exam passes.

I struggled through Shakespeare,
Suffered Satre,
Wandered with Wordsworth
and
Battled Byron

Believe me it wasn't worth it.

I love Shakespeare, Satre and Wordsworth I can mostly live without, and I rather like Byron. I actually made it through Middlemarch, but I was in a really weird mood. And I cannot remember a thing about it other than it was full of characters that I could never keep straight.

A co-worker ravingly recommended Look Homeward, Angel.

It's a little known fact that there was a world-wide shortage of adjectives and adverbs following the publication of this inexcusable and massive tome, and it took years of sweatshop labor to manufacture enough that other writers could have some to use in their novels.

There is a new dramatisation of Tess of the D'urbervilles on the beeb at the moment...although it is a beautiful book...it is so bloody depressing!

yes, depressing, as Mr. Hardy tends, but he has such a way about him

Was not thinking of you, bb. If was would chose something more like,

"Aspect are within us, and who seems most kingly is king."

(or, if you prefer, 'most piratey is pirate king')

Twilight is far from teh worst book ever written. You may not have liked it, but it couldn't have been that bad.

The thin line between genius and insanity is less of a border than a union.

Twilight is far from great (or even good) literature, but definitely isn't the worst book ever. Hell, it isn't even the worst "preteen girl obsession" ever, as that honor goes to the Jonas Brothers.

As for those who think that the Catcher in the Rye is the worst book ever, you don't read much, do you?

Worst book ever: My Brother Sam Is Dead can't remember who wrote it, but they sure don't know how to build anticipation.
