"Pirate speak in Serious"

Postby Warlord of Elephants on Sat Jul 19, 2008 9:22 pm

Please stop posting 'Pirate speak' in serious, we have asked nicely more than once, I'm going to just start deleting the posts. Mods have to read it and most of them have lives outside this place it really slows us down; you have whole sections devoted to it. I am through trying to puzzle out what the hell is being said. Sin. WoE.

Can we cut out sarcasm, euphanism, metaphor, and analogy as well because those really tend to confuse me as well?

I came across an article sometime last year so the details are sketchy .
A study concerned human perception are something within that realm .
The researchers displayed text that was missing all the vowels and possibly other letters .

They found that only 40% of test subjects were able to read it without a struggle , the other 60% took forever to read the thing , or saw " chicken scratch " , it might as well be a foreign language.
It seems the former group's brains somehow simply filled in the blanks for them as they read the text .

So PG , give these folks a break , they are of the 60% .

You aren't removing the vowels, you are entirely changing the spelling and syntax.

I'd personally like to see all communication in the serious threads limited to the proper syntax and grammar and spelling of whatever language we are speaking.

Misc. sections, do whatever, but the serious sections need to be serious.

Pouvons-nous parler dans une langue différente dans les sections sérieuses ?

I've had to read, consider, and act on people's writing throughout my career. If the majority of people committing their thoughts to paper or pixels could achieve this level of grammar and spelling, I would be delirious with joy!

I'm with you on everything but the euphanism, PG. There's just not enough euphanism on these boards, serious sections or otherwise...
