I've had amost the exact same thing happen! Not as bad as herpes, but still. I was safe and also got tested once she told me, but I can't imagine how she ever thought I'd have anything to do with her again after that.

Then I proceeded to sprain my toe and ankle after I mistook a tree stump for a soccer ball, and I went home covered in mud and thoroughly disgruntled, after my (ex) best friend stole my backpack.

Years ago, of course, but the memory still rankles.
