How is it to clean? I can't stand cleaning kitchen gadgets, ESPECIALLY garlic presses with all the finicky little holes.

I rarely need finely minced garlic, so a good whack with the flat of the cleaver and a coarse chop usually works fine.

I am with you on the Cleaning and Wacking - That is my nomal method.

But, I will check-out the Zyliss – We get them at the store I work P/T at every now and then.

Still, in a hectic life, sometimes I get in a hurry and…. Okay, I am ashamed. May Lord FSM in his all sufficiency and zesty flavorful goodness forgive me for short cutting on the glorious herb/vegetable Galic.

Garlic powder is not a sin. Sometimes it's better than the fresh stuff (rubs, coatings, etc.)

Garlic salt is another matter, unless that's EXACTLY what you need.

Oh absolutely - Garlic as Herb! No my confession was related to pre-minced/crushed garlic as a bland substitue for the real thing.

Too expensive, although I've been thinking of grinding up my own and freezing it in ice cube trays, then bagging it frozen for later use.
Should get the flavour and the convenience, without the price.

We used to grind it by the bucketfull when I was a cook, with oil. This is dangerous for the home user, though, as you can get botulinum growing in the anaerobic environment. Homemade bioweapons/botox anyone?

I don't mind the pre-crushed garlic. A little weak but still delicious.

What's great is the Garlic and Olive oil spray. Anytime anything needs olive oil, or greasing, just whip out a bit of it and BAM! instant garlicky goodness

Thank you Dr. Otis. I always thought that the whole bulb was called a clove. I guess you learn something new every day. Of course I've never cooked with whole garlic before, just the stuff in jars.

Garlic has some benefit to cold & flu relief, but I heard that Arizona odourless garlic doesn't work as well because the odour gives the most benefit by 'weeping' the toxins out of your skin (or something like that).

Any confirmations/denials?

I make homemade but I never can quite beat the taste of the resterant garlic bread

Garlic bread is the best. I get to take some home from work - I work in a microbiology lab which analyses food for bacteria, and we get to take some samples home

You could end up with garlic foot and mouth!

Yer it's safe. We get deliveris from the suppliers so the samples are relitively fresh AND yummy. We can only take home samples tested for E.Coli, though
