Upcoming Documentary: Jesus Camp

Postby Zillax0rz » Wed May 24, 2006 12:02 am

A documentary called "Jesus Camp" debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival late April and it's looking for a distributor and I hope it finds one because it looks like a winner. Here's a description from its website:

A growing number of Evangelical Christians believe there is a revival underway whereby young Christians must take up the leadership of the religious right. This film reveals a new phenomenon: an active movement to train young kids to become dedicated Christian soldiers in “God’s army.â€￾

The film follows Levi, Rachael and Tory to the Kids on Fire summer camp in Devils Lake, North Dakota, where kids as young as 6 years-old are drilled in the importance of political activism and radical views. The film is a first-ever look into an intense training ground that recruits born-again Christian children to become an active part of America’s political future.

Check out a clip of it here at Variety.com:

My favorite part of the clip?

"Lemme say something about Harry Porter." (pause) "WARLOCKS ARE ENEMIES OF GOD!"

Also liked: "...had it been in the Old Testament, Harry Potter would've been put to death! You don't make heroes out of warlocks!"

There's a documentary on Channel 4 (UK) at 20:00 tomorrow "God's New Army" about a place called "Patrick Henry College", which apparently supplies the White House with more interns than anywhere else. Fundamentalist, Creationist ones if the press reviews are correct.
Might be worth watching.

I only score 4/12 on their Honor Code, so probably be best not to apply.

Any statistical increase in the usage of the :idiot: emoticon since becoming Admin should not be considered significant, meaningful, or otherwise cause for worry.

And the addition that it does not matter whatever good deeds they do...

Get them while they are still little children and you own them for life, to paraphrase St.Ignatius de Loyola.

Probably works on the army principle of following the last order by a superior, however mad.

I'm not convinced the place really exists. I think it's a threat parents use to teenagers to make them turn their music down.

I will resolve personal conflicts biblically.

Boy, depending on which part of the Bible you use, this could mean anything from "Turn the other cheek" to "Kill them in their sleep."

I am willing to be held accountable and will hold my fellow students accountable to these tenets.

The first half, personal accountability, is fine. But the second half smells a bit, like a police state...turn your neighbor in.

Being a nonsmoker and disliker of alcohol (and no intention to become a junkie) that part should be easy. Guarding my thoughts and tongue is more difficult but could be desirable. Some other things solve themselves through lack of opportunity. The difficult part should be the biblical. By being here I run afoul of psalm 1 verse 1 automatically, don't I?

Thinking about it I can score 11 instead of 4 if I only break the one about lying.

I may be too stupid to go there. :? :D
