There are experiments of complete switch. All female roles played by men, all male roles played by women.

I know. There are just a few special cases where it works on film.
In Asian (esp. Chinese) films it is far more common to cast roles with actors of the opposite sex.
What is quite common even in the West is dubbing with voices of the 'wrong' sex (especially for younger characters).

To answer an earlier question Pi is about a guy who is trying to find all the digits of pi. He eventually does so and gets chased by (totally not kidding here) Hasidic Jews and the FBI who want the information. It is very strange, but interesting at the same time. I would actually recomend it, despite the weirdness.

I don't know, whether there is a proof that there can't be a formula giving the digit sequence of pi. That pi is not periodic (known since Archimedes) is not sufficient.
This is only a statement of a knowledge gap on my side.

Metropolis Well, the anime version, anyway.

The Triplets of Belleville Really great music, sick and twisted, and the weirdest plot line ever, period.

Bad Taste - early Peter Jackson movie about alien fast food merchants who decide to start a franchise dealing in human meat.
Meet the Feebles - also by Peter Jackson - The Muppets on a really, really bad acid trip.
Delicatessen
City of Lost Children (they both speak for themselves)
Leningrad Cowboys go America
No Surrender - obscure English movie that stars that guy who looks like Ringo Starr. About a nightclub manager who has to deal with the previous manager's deliberate double booking of Catholic old folks & Protestant old folks. Not really a comedy but still very funny.
La Dent - Short film from france about a guy with a sore tooth.
Lots of Japanese movies. Take your pick.

and of course, the way coolest 1 minute movie of all time:

Bambi Meets Godzilla!!!
