I love Tiffany Aching. And the Nac Mac Feegles.
Hat Full of Sky and Wee Free Men are my faves. Although Witches Abroad was terrible funky as well. And Soul Music.

Yes. He comes out with about 2 per year, and THUD! hasn't been out that long.

I have read most of his books now. Still haven't read The Wee Free Men or A Hat Full of Sky though.

Yes, I did (though that name seems to refer only to the US edition with some minor differences [changes from BE to AE]).

btw, as I read in the papers today from July 1st this year witchcraft will be a crime in Zimbabwe (until then it's still a crime to accuse someone of witchcraft there). What next? [and will the US follow ?].

Have you read the Bromeliad Trilogy?

That's weird. I responded this morning, and it's not posted. Don't know what happened.

No, I have not read the Bromeliad Trilogy. I have heard good things about it, but just haven't gotten around to them. I only discovered Pratchett a few years ago, and am still catching up. I have finally read all of the adult Discworld books. But the only non-Discworld I have read are The Carpet People (which I thought was so-so) and Good Omens (which I really liked).

I subjegate *everybody* to it. I love how they describe Azriel as "Gayer than a tree full of monkeys on nitrus oxide".

If I had to choose a single favorite Pratchett book, Good Omens would be the most likely candidate an I will not buy a Jesus is my Buddy CD .

I started out Discworld by buying Fifth Elephant.

I am a fan of the movie "Fifth Element" and thought the pun was pretty good, so contrary to popular myth, I bought a book based solely on it's title ... :P

I thoroughly enjoyed it to the point I returned the next week [after finishing Fifth, of course] and purchased the first 5 in the series.

I really like the Librarian, he is an ape of so few words - well he is an ape of a single, all-purpose universally-understandable word: "ook" Pretty handy.

I also identify with Rincewind quite a bit.

But, I really admire Granny Weatherwax and Sam Vimes - two opposite but similar characters.

I also enjoy Vime's wife's rather deep insight, when it comes around. Fifth Elephant has some astute examples, especially at the very end, when they are negotiating the fat deposit contracts with the Dwarves. Some of the puns during that are hilarious.

Then, of course, there is Death and the Grim Squeaker ...

And the competent-incompetents of the Senior Wizard at the Unseen University. (It is NOT an oxymoron: if you read the stories, you'd agree)

The best quote is the same as Poincare's: "Admire someone looking for the truth. 'Ware someone who's found it."

Personally my favorite character is Death. As for favorite quote, who can choose!?!? I haven't read them all ebcause I am trying to pace myself so I don't run out but my girlfriend and I are HUGE Pratchett fans.

I even named my car Binky!

Three of my RL friends that are Discworld fans told me last week that i'm Granny Weatherwax, Roundworld version.

I really wanted to be Nanny Ogg...

Supposedly I am a mix of Vimes and Vetenari... Ruff and tumble, and surprisingly efficient.

The Vetenari cold and callousness and "It's better for the cause" mentality helps play into that as well!
