I've seen Spitirted Away several times. One of our cable channels had a Miyazaki festival all month in Feb. They showed a bunch of his movies every Thursday night, twice. First time in dubbed English, second time in Japanese. I was in hog heaven! Hubby thinks I was/am nuts.

The Meaning of Life

Postby NeferKa on Wed Mar 29, 2006 12:58 am

Does that bit at the beginning of The Meaning of Life count as a pirate movie? It's when the clerks turn their building into a pirate ship sort-of and battle a corporation.

Terry Gillian

Yeah that's definately a pirate sequence - brilliant Terry Gillian.

Does 'Time Bandits' have pirates in it?

Close enough for me!
Imagine what the Monty Python gang could have done had they tackled pirates.

Eric the Viking could count too. Halfdan the Black (Cleese) clearly is one in that movie.

Yeah, I remember him. The guy with the "cute earring."

Well, it might not be a completely piratical creation, but I have to put a good word fer "Hook". They might think that it's about that faerie boy "Peter Pan", but avast, it's really a movie about his glorious arch-nemesis cap'n Hook himself. That Dustin Hoffman sure be a fine actor when it comes to wickedness in style.

Hook is the only really interesting character in Peter Pan. Not a great friend of the book, I admit. I liked the Burton/Depp take on it (Finding Neverland).

Pyrates

Postby black bart on Fri May 19, 2006 9:14 am

Has anyone mentioned 'Pyrates' the Roman Polanski film starring Walther Mathau as a rediculously over the top pirate with a Bronx/London accent?
