OFFICIAL FORUM FOR 12TH MAY LONDON MEETUP-NOTE SLIGHT CHANGE

Postby Henny Penne the Fierce on Tue May 08, 2007 8:04 am

Hello everyone! :D

It's nearly here! The first meeting of Pastafarians on a pirate ship! And pints afterward!

This is the schedule of events for the 12th. All maps and details are below the itinerary.

We will initially be meeting from 11am at the Anchor, which is right next to the Golden Hinde. Everyone's free to have a pint while my producer takes shots of the ship, etc. He might do some quick vox pops of you guys as well- just little quickie interviews.

Then we will move on en masse to the pirate ship the Golden Hinde- Hazah!!! We will be there from 12:30 to 3. Everyone will be filmed mucking about aboard the ship, shivering their timbers, and singing a FSM shanty song. Plus, you will have the opportunity to be interviewed, even just for a minute or two, to talk about the Church of the FSM- like how you heard about it, what you like about it, what you think of pirates v. global warming, etc.

Then everyone is free to move on to a pub at 3pm. There are three pubs in the nearby vicinity (thanks for the info Couscous!) and they have their own pros and cons. Please see below for descriptions and maps. Perhaps everyone should decide on the day where to go afterwards?

DRESSING AS A PIRATE IS KEY- The photos will look amazing and we are sure to get on to the homepage of Venganza with everyone dressed up. You can change at the pub or at the Golden Hinde- you don’t have to wear your gear on the tube. For those of you who haven’t yet had a chance to get your pirate costumes together, there are many costume shops around London and the country who have very cheap pirate supplies- hats start at only a couple of quid, as do swords, daggers, etc. Patches are only about 75p in the places I have seen. Don’t forget, if you wear a parrot you will be touched by his noodly goodness. It doesn’t have to be a perfect pirate outfit- do whatever you can! But it seems like everyone is going to be dressing up, which fits in with the theme. If you are uncertain about local fancy dress shops, check out www.yell.com, which allows you to put in your local postcode to find the closest shops. You can usually find the stuff you need at home too- white shirt, scarves and bandanas, and vests.

So, could everyone who is coming please respond to the following questions on this forum, just so I can keep everything organised and up to date:
1) If at all, how many people are you bringing with you?
2) Which pub looks the best to you (make sure you read the reviews)?
3) Are you dressing as a pirate? Even as a crap one?
4) Shall we sing a FSM shanty song on the ship? If so, which one?

If you have any other questions or concerns, please respond here on the board or private message me. The rest of the info is below.

Directions and maps and things

The Golden Hinde

Official website - http://www.goldenhinde.org/

Here’s the map of the Location of the Golden Hide:

Nearest tube is London Bridge- tube map is here: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/colourmap.pdf

Pub info (courtesy of Couscous)

The Anchor (outdoor seating area, presuming weather is good).
It is right on the Thames and is literally right beside The Golden Hinde (http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/ ... /Southwark
Address: 34 Park Street, Bankside, Southwark, London, SE1 9EF
Tel: 020 7407 1577

The George, Borough High
An old coachman's inn - Borough High Street, Borough, London, SE1 1NH Tel: 020 7407 2056
Gorgeous, realy atmospheric but gets very busy due to Borough Market spillover and is not cheap (think Soho prices). 5 mins walk (or less) (on Borough high street - perfect for London Bridge tube)
Often only seats available in the courtyard outside -

Here’s the map for the George- very piratey on the inside
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x ... search.srf

The King's Arms, Newcomen Street, SE1 1YT phone: 020 7407 1132
A local's fave - cheaper than the other two. Feels like a large sitting room, nice staff. 5 mins walk, sidestreet off Borough High Street (perfect for tube). Has a very interesting placard on the front - original from old London Bridge. Proprietors will probably reserve a few tables if requested

here’s the map- http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x ... search.srf

NB _ there's another pub with the same name nearby, on Tooley Street - they're NOT the same pub!

1 - Well I will try to get there in the morning, I've got a party in the evening so I'll have to leave early/mid afternoon

2 - I'm bringing my boyfriend, but I'm not sure yet as to how many of my friends are coming, I'll ask and tell them all the details :)

3 - Errr any of them are good for me, I don't care but prefer cheaper! I'm poor!

4 - Yes

5 - Sure, whatever, just gimmie the words and the jist of the tune and I'll try...

1) Can you come to the morning filming or just the afternoon?
Will try and make the morning one, but depends on traffic/ trains etc from Oxford.

2) If at all, how many people are you bringing with you?
Prob just me, but still working on persuading friends.

3) Which pub looks the best to you (make sure you read the reviews)?
No sure - how about all 3!!!!

4) Are you dressing as a pirate? Even as a crap one?
Definately

5) Shall we sing a FSM shanty song on the ship? If so, which one?
As a Monty Python fan, I feel it my duty to suggest the Accountancy Shanty from Monty Python's The Crimson Permanent Assurance short film. Not about the FSM, but I feel His Noodliness is probably kindly disposed towards all things Python (lyrics on my Python Site ) (plus it's the only shanty I know)

Now a question of my own:
Which University of Westminster campus? Regents Street, New Cavendish Street or Marylebone Road (I'm figuring you're not going to the Harrow one!)

1) Can you come to the morning filming or just the afternoon?

Can do all day

2) If at all, how many people are you bringing with you?

Only friends are his invisibilyness

3) Which pub looks the best to you (make sure you read the reviews)?

One with grog,

4) Are you dressing as a pirate? Even as a crap one?

Have some old Larp stuff but alas no weapons so might have to go shopping. I think i might have a kangeroo on my shoulder as a lot of parrots are protected species these days

5) Shall we sing a FSM shanty song on the ship? If so, which one?

Only sing when drunk and that wouldnt happen would it

Quick question , Why exactly are the BBC there?

A lot of things like this including LARP work if you are in on the fact/joke but you look a bit naff when being filmed

Hey guys-

I'll know about times definitely by this afternoon. May switch around the lecture hall and go for the pub instead, before the ship...

Postby nauticalnick on Wed May 09, 2007 5:33 am

Hi

I will try to make it there for 10am and should be able to stay all day.
I will be coming alone and should hopefully have some pirate gear sorted by then.

Cheers

Anyone travelling down from Manchester?

Quite looking forward to this, yet another bizarre episode in a life full of bizarre episodes.

If I have to do the lecture I hope y'all don't get too bored.

1) Can you come to the morning filming or just the afternoon?
Both, depending on train times

2) If at all, how many people are you bringing with you?
None

3) Which pub looks the best to you (make sure you read the reviews)?
Not bothered.

4) Are you dressing as a pirate? Even as a crap one?
We shall see. I am a serious advocate of Super Science and Unintelligent Design so I don't want to distract too much from the message.

5) Shall we sing a FSM shanty song on the ship? If so, which one?
I only know the Sponge Bob Square Pants theme tune.

How's this for a shanty?

well the jolly roger pulled through
and made it to the land
we disembarked
went into town with vengence in our hand
the children cried
the woman sighed
the men just turn their heads
so with a smile we chated loud and this is what we said

"ooohhoooh
raise'em in the air
we'll knock you up
and slap you down
and never seem to care
ooohooohh
another one for me
cause we're the filthy vermin
that will set you people free"

with nothing left for us to drink
the night was winding down
but still the girls kept swaggering
and still hanging around
oh! mister can you tell me where i can find a man
the only thing that you will find is the back side of my hand!

"ooohhoooh
