Well, here it is in all its glory, The Project I've been going on about for the last umpty weeks. I wanted to post it as a document so you could download it and print it, but apparently the site won't support that, and despite PoN's best efforts to clue me in, I'm not clever enough to find a place that will host a word document like that. If anyone has a site that can host it, PM me with some instructions and we can set it up. Alternatively anyone can PM me with their email address and I'll be happy to send it to them as an attachment.
I've tried to follow all the rules of crosswording, and given that the majority of folks here are in the IQ stratosphere, I've made the clues mostly expert or worse. There are probably about a dozen answers that are borderline impossible for the average joe, but they don't intersect, so the puzzle itself still qualifies as possible - I think. I also think that each of the "impossible" answers is known to at least one of the regulars here as part of their specialized knowledge, though I don't think anyone will know them all. I included as many answers specific to this site and the folks I've met here as I could without making the puzzle unwieldy. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy hanging out with you guys.

Can't you just save a word document as an image?

Sorry, man. The method I use to build a puzzle (all that phase one, two, three stuff) is to make a huge list of topic-related words, match up groups with the same number of letters, and use as many of them as I can working from the longest pairings down to the shortest, because symmetry is a big part of crosswording. You, {EDITED TO REMOVE CLUES} and many others just wouldn't fit the grid. I had a helluva time making some of the others work, as evidenced by the "impossible" words crossing them.

London, 1975. Teachers' strike. I am going to work with my Dad (pre-car crash, pre-brain injury). My Dad buys 'The Times' at the newsagent at the end of the road. At the bus stop, and on the bus on the way to the tube station, he fills in half the Times crossword. He fills in another quarter on the tube to Holborn. He remembers he has a child with him at Holborn, 'fluffs the pass' and loses his newspaper there.
At this point, I feel that I should point out that my Dad is a 1970's cool Dad, a guy with a beard, a medallion and a tweed jacket who repulses city types who don't work in advertising. I love him, but then - hey! he's my Dad!
He buys a new copy of the Times at Holborn, and between Holborn and Liecester Square, he says hello to a bunch of pinstripe suits in the carriage, asks me the answers to at least half the clues that he's already completed, totally cues me for most of the rest, and fills in every clue he hasn't already completed, grins at all the suits and then leaves a completed Times crossword lying at his arse, on the train, before 9am.
I got on the train 3' 6" and got off it 6'3". I love my Dad, and I remember why. Crosswords rock.
