I thought he was as famous as Ted Bundy or Charles Manson.

This may sound like I'm trying to humanize him, but I wonder how awful he really was.
I mean, he did kill a few people, but otherwise he just exhumed bodies, took various parts and had a rather unhealthy obsession with his dead mother. Alot of serial killers probably killed more people than he did.
I know collecting people's dearly departed's body parts isn't the most respectable passtime, but he didn't hurt anyone (in other words, what the dead people's relatives don't know, won't hurt them).
He was just a mentally disturbed guy who killed a few people and happened to have an uncommon hobby.

I'm not rationalizing it, nor am I trying to explain him, but just because he did unusual things with dead people doesn't mean that he's so much worse than any other serial killer out there.

I wonder if GWB would have had the guts to do the Texas executions he ordered himself. And I mean not just pressing a button.

That was not reasoning, it was speculation.
If someone's proved insane in court, they can't be executed. Digging up bodies and using their parts to make clothing and stuff isn't the work of a sane man by a long shot. So unless the law is to change, there's no way they could have executed him.

Not sure that insanity at that time was regarded as an execution blocker in the state where it occured. Would have to look up the date of the universal ban by the Supreme Court (there are forces in the USA that still work on overturning that decision or try to get around it, btw).
I did not intend to make "reasoning" to mean "arguing for" but more like "putting thought into". Sorry, if there is a misunderstanding.
