Captain America was shot through the head by a sniper, in the Civil War series. Quite funny, actually. He lives for ages, breaking heaps of bad guys, and he gets shot through the head.

Just because your powers get given to someone else doesn't make them the same person as you. Captain America had a different personality to the new guy. Sure, he's the same hero, but not the same, inside.
