Marinara?

I was standing in the galley of my boat cooking up some pasta the other day when I had an interesting thought: could the word 'Marinara' be somehow related to the word 'Mariner'?

Indeed. According to Wikipedia:
Marinara sauce (Italian salsa marinara or salsa alla marinara) is a type of tomato sauce that originated in Naples after the Spaniards had introduced the tomato from the New World. The word marinara is derived from marinaro, which is Italian for "of the sea".


Marinara sauce is "of the sea," Pirates are "of the sea"; More proof of The Sauced One's greatness.

I had a hunch it was so! :grin:
I love those little moments of "Aha!" when one discovers a meaningful connection between two seemingly unrelated words.
