Balls

Postby black bart on Tue Mar 07, 2006 10:43 am

There's two of you; the devil make a third!

Henry VI, Part 1

Here the reference is two the two meat balls - a third ball being a devilish creation!

No, tis Blind Pugh on a night out.

Pew

Postby black bart on Wed Mar 08, 2006 10:21 am

I used to employ Blind Pew on board my ship - as a look out! We had a falling out (it was hitting the fourth Ice Berg that got to me) and he went to work on the Titanic. :?

He's
grown a very land-fish, language-less, a monster.

Troilus and Cressida

Here we have the pirate fish linked to the monster.

Again I see that the only Rattlelance drama I really know is Henry V.

Twelfth Night
How will this fadge? my master loves her dearly;
And I, poor monster, fond as much on him;
And she, mistaken, seems to dote on me.

Henry V

On the other hand, Henry V is a shameless commercial for leek. How much money did the leek producers have to pay to get that much product placement :mrgreen: ?

Leeks

Postby black bart on Tue Mar 14, 2006 10:42 am

It was merely reflecting one of the lesser known factors of the Agincourt victory - many of the French were beaten to death by enormous Leeks carried by Henry's Welsh archers. That'l teach em to eat garlic!

If that shepherd be not in hand-fast, let him fly:
the curses he shall have, the tortures he shall
feel, will break the back of man, the heart of monster.

A Winter's Tale

This is one of Shakespeare's rare Anti-FSM tirades. It is thought that he believed this would encourage his playgoers to keep attending performances. The reference to flying is particularly interesting.

What about the lost Rattlelance plays? Maybe Love's Labors Won was his main FSM play.

I have a (yet unfinished) scientific edition of Old Willy on my bookshelves but know more about the commentary than the plays themselves (except Henry V)
