Thanks for your comments about the Flying Spaghetti Monster and all the supporters who have sent their support to members of the Kansas Board of Education. I am supporting the recommendations of the science committee and am currently in the minority. I think your theory is wonderful and possibly some of the majority members will be willing to support it.
Thanks again,

Dear Mr. Henderson, Thanks for your message. Thanks for the laugh. Your web site is fascinating. I will add your theory to a long list of alternative theories I intend to introduce when it is appropriate. I am practicing how to do this with a straight face which is difficult since it’s such a ridiculous subject; it is also very sad that we are even having the discussion.
I will be one of the four member minority who will be voting against the flawed science standards currently being proposed by the six member majority.
Sincerely,
Sue Gamble

Subject: Kansas State Board of Education
Dear Mr. Henderson,
In the midst of the sad circumstances of having our science standards lowered, you and your legion of fellow FSM followers have offered wonderful comic relief. Rather than the form letters which we often receive on other topics, each FSM letter has been clever and unique. I responded to several at first, but now there have just been too many. I am a member of the Kansas State Board of Education and have voted repeatedly to maintain excellent science standards. Last week was the vote to send a new draft (written by the 6 conservative members) out for external review. The four of us on the board who are moderates were in the minority on the vote. The group of science teachers and university professors who had written the original standards (before they were changed) have now asked that their names be withdrawn from the document. The new version changes the very definition of science from “seeking natural explanations” to “seeking logical explanations”. That is why I think FSMism is able to be included. It is as “logical” as any other theory.
The final vote on the standards will be in October. We will be in Lawrence, Kansas for that meeting. Those of us who are moderates on the board are trying to have the meeting in the Natural History Museum at the University of Kansas. We think that would be an appropriate setting for the occasion. We welcome you to be in attendance.
We have received thousands of emails from scientists around the world. At first, they all tried to explain good science to us. After the vote last week, however, they have resorted to calling us hillbillies and morons. And those are the nice letters!
Thank you for adding levity to this situation. You have developed quite a following. I was wondering if we could reverse the effects of global warming if we started breeding pirates.
Sincerely,
Carol Rupe
P.S. I ordered a Kansas Museum of Science t-shirt. I may just have to wear it to a board meeting.

@ Matt #1344,
Just to add a bit to Bob and Joseph, do you actually find it more comforting to imagine that murderers suffer an eternity in torment rather than some well deserved lock up in the here and now?
Remember the flying bearded judicial system has a caveat that you can be instantly forgiven for everything at any time if you take a moment to feel bad about it. Does a moments remorse really make up for ending a life?

It is considered a sacrament to consume spaghetti with your beverage of choice when done in a joyful manner. It is especially sacred if you use the occasion to share with the poor and the hungry.

My religion officially encompases every god, and goddess, force, or being ever worshiped by anybody anywhere. I believe all religions are simultaneously 100% accurate & 100% inacurate. To me, science is the force that ties them all up and makes them work right. Though I tend to focus more on the ancient pantheons personally, I would like to thank you for adding a new deity to my list. :)

It gives me sweet hope to know that there are still 4 members of a kansas board of education who don’t believe in the tooth fairy. Sad that we’re still a minority, but nice to know that we’re out there and probably growing.
As for the last letter by Kathy Martin:
Please try not to be hypocritical Mrs. Martin. After all, you mock god each time you champion your Jesus. Does it even bother you that each time wave his effigy which you’ve stapled to a stick, you disrespect the FSM? Why do you hate life so much that you would turn away from god and join this cult of Jesus? Do you even have any hope left in your life? What solace do you possibly hope to find in the arms of this following which is so often the cause of intolerance, murder, and child-molestation? I hope for your sake that you someday return to god. He still loves you.
With Sincerity,

Mrs. Kathy Martin of District 6 was correct. “It is a serious offense to mock God.” that is why FSM should be taught in schools. to not teach of his noodly greatness is to mock his noodly appendage, which will anger the pirates.

I highly agree with your theories! I believe them to be highly intelligible, and why not?!? I understand how highly religious people, or even simply Christians, would take offense to an idea like this at first. But in my opinion, being a (former) atheist, the FSM makes perfect sense!!! To me personally, God is a bit intimidating. And while I fully respect the oh so stupefying power of the FSM, He has a very fun atmosphere about Him.
On another note, I am downright furious with Mrs. Kathy Martin of District 6. How can you say such a thing, when you and I both are living in the Land of the Free?!? I take very deep offense to your comment. You may be of the idea that we, the FSM followers, are “mocking God”? Well, Mrs. Martin, you are strongly mistaken. None of us are MOCKING God! We are all simply proving a point, with a slightly silly attitude. We have perfectly good data and proof, with which I find to be as legitimate and clear as any other religious theory.
Lastly, I’d like to thank Bobby Henderson for presenting the obvious connection of the global warming and pirates online, and it has become quite famous. I’ve had this idea for quite some time, and I feel fulfilled now that there is a movement. =]

I have not yet had the pleasure of being touched by the Great Pasta in the Sky’s noodly appendage, however I am a firm believer and Pirates so kick any ninja’s ass. I believe what is being done in Kansas is the work of a great people of pirates and pirate lovers and to deny us the rights to have our beliefs explored in the education system is nothing but discrimination. However unlike the jews or coloured folk we have pirates that will be very angry if they are not represented. To ignore FSMism is to incur the wrath of the pirates

Kathy Martin: How right you are that it’s a serious offense to mock god.
For instance, Chantico (”she who dwells in the house”) was the Aztec goddess of fires in the family hearth and volcanoes, but she broke a fast by eating paprika with roasted fish, and was turned into a dog by Tonacatecuhtli! Don’t let this happen to you – never eat fish with paprika.

O.M.FSM! I just joined pastafarianism & I LOVE IT!
Where do I go to meet other pastafarians??? My friends & I have meetings at my house every week to pray to the Flying Spaghetti Monster. We even have a midget that we converted to Pastafarianism. His name is Brent & he loves the thought that he was specially created by the GREAT Flying Spaghetti Monster. I LOVE HIM & WORSHIP HIM & I WILL NEVER STOP! To all you unbelievers you are truly missing out on an awesome experience. Our meetings are rapidly growing & WE NEED YOU! We see better pirate uniforms every week. I wear mine everyday & I even chopped my leg off so I can have a wooden peg leg (which is made out of a broom stick…very easy to do) to make my pirate outfit more real like. I heard about pastafarianism through hate mail on a youtube video. I really want to go to a special conference for FSM lovers so I can meet my future husband. Thank you for taking time to read my comment.
I love FSM :)

hi,
i have read a bit about your so called religion and i must say it is rather sad. I see more evidence in all of creation that there is a God, the only true and living God. And one day, every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. You do not have to go very far to find Him, and you don’t have to change who you are (become a Pirate) to keep Him from getting angry at you. God is love, and He loves His creation. You can continue to believe in the FSM but one day, one sad day, you will see God Himself face to face and realize how wrong you are, and you will live in eternal Hell where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth. They don’t have meatballs and pasta in hell either.
Choose you this day whom you will serve.
Praying for your eyes of understanding to be opened in Jesus name.

Religion is simply a way to control people. If this, then that. If you are bad you go to burning lake of fire, if you are good, you get to live on a cloud forever. We were ALL born with an inherent ability to tell right from wrong. If so many people in the world weren’t such self-serving, selfish bastards, we wouldn’t need laws or religions. Before you say “wha? …laws?” Think. “God” made laws for man, we all have these laws etched into us, it’s called your conscience …that little voice that says it’s wrong to kill, rape and otherwise effect the free will of another human being. This is what separates us from animals.
call it what you like: Buddha, God, Krishna, Jesus, the aether, the Flying Spaghetti Monster
We need to share and love each other and not take everything so seriously…

Hi everyone,
I just want to share a few quotes from my faith (Baha’i) that fit this issue.
Truth is one, and whenever conflict appears it is due, not to truth, but to error. Between so-called science and so-called religion there have been fierce conflicts all down the ages, but looking back on these conflicts in the light of fuller truth we can trace them every time to ignorance, prejudice, vanity, greed, narrow-mindedness, intolerance, obstinacy or something of the kind — something foreign to the true spirit of both science and religion, for the spirit of both is one.
(From “Bahá’u'lláh and the New Era”)
“Religion and science are the two wings upon which man’s intelligence can soar into the heights, with which the human soul can progress. It is not possible to fly with one wing alone! Should a man try to fly with the wing of religion alone he would quickly fall into the quagmire of superstition, whilst on the other hand, with the wing of science alone he would also make no progress, but fall into the despairing slough of materialism.” (Abdu’l-Bahá)
If religious beliefs and opinions are found contrary to the standards of science, they are mere superstitions and imaginations; for the antithesis of knowledge is ignorance, and the child of ignorance is superstition. Unquestionably there must be agreement between true religion and science. If a question be found contrary to reason, faith and belief in it are impossible, and there is no outcome but wavering and vacillation. (Abdu’l-Bahá)

In Australia the FSM is a being of legend, taken from the ancient historical stories of the Dreamtime which have been handed down the Aborginal people from the Northern Territory. The fact that this is not discussed openly is that the history of the Aborginal people of the North Territory is not a widely taught subject in Secondary Schools on a global level.
Do not try and own the SM, as he owns you United States of America, and if you do not appreciate this, he will have the Snake Lord come down from the sky and take your children from you, for you are teaching them blasphemy.
http://www.aboriginalculture.com.au/religion.shtml
I link the above site, as a great place to begin the teaching of the religion, we do not name him directly, and therefore you may continue to refer to him as the FSM, but do not mock him or his series of followers which is now hidden in your society.

Seriously, how can you offend something that’s either almighty or doesn’t exist? If God were almighty, it would be His will to be mocked or he could prevent it with a single Word. If he didn’t exist, there would be nothing to be mocked.
And for Kathy a special quote:
“If I were to suggest that between the Earth and Mars there is a china teapot revolving about the sun in an elliptical orbit, nobody would be able to disprove my assertion provided I were careful to add that the teapot is too small to be revealed even by our most powerful telescopes. But if I were to go on to say that, since my assertion cannot be disproved, it is an intolerable presumption on the part of human reason to doubt it, I should rightly be thought to be talking nonsense. If, however, the existence of such a teapot were affirmed in ancient books, taught as the sacred truth every Sunday, and instilled into the minds of children at school, hesitation to believe in its existence would become a mark of eccentricity and entitle the doubter to the attentions of the psychiatrist in an enlightened age or of the Inquisitor in an earlier time.” – Bertrand Russel
That goes for the Christian God, as well as JHWH, as well as Allah, as well as FSM, as well as any other illusion.

I fear for my wife’s salvation. She has Celiac disease, which means she is allergic to Gluten, found in Wheat. If the FSM is a wheat based matter, she will never be able to endure his presence. Is there a rice based version of the FSM for all those who also suffer from Celiac disease? Or will a large portion of the world’s population just be condemned to eternal damnation simply because the FSM might be a Wheat Biggot?
Otherwise – love the whole concept.

@ 1391 – Bill – ,
The FSM requires that the sacred meal of pasta and sauce be consumed in a spirit of joy. To that end it is perfectly acceptable to make vegetarian, vegan , gluten free, or any other modification as medically or philosophically necessary. As I’ve stated previously, I prefer mine with a glass of Pinot Noir.
Welcome aboard; may the sauce be with you.

All Hail my brothers and sisters !
Here’s a greeting from France (also known as the “Elder sister of the Church” among the catholics), where i have an extremely fun time spreading the gospel of His Noodliness. :-)
Here’s a serious and theological question though : Can Jefferson Airplane’s song “Have you seen the saucer” be considered a religious chant of the FSM ?
Not to be picky, but we really should have more of our own “gospel songs”, wouldn’t you agree ?
PS : Can privateers count as pirates ?
France was and always will be a great country of privateers and i do think that if privateers could be accepted as a special category of pirates, you guys would find France to be a powerful ally in the struggle against global warming….
May His Noodly appendage bless you all.

Everyone here is so clever (sarcasm). It is perfectly ok if everyone here chooses to not believe in God but mocking those that do is simply vulgar. Its sad and even pathetic that many of you spend so much time, effort, and obviously money mocking those that you do not agree with. I personally do not believe in God or god, but have no desire to mock those that do. This blog is sad and pathetic.

If/when/ever you get what is going on in the world, about the onslaught of religious types attacking science and trying to dumb down education, and then understand the entire scope of their operation, and see for yourself the lies they constantly spew, maybe then…just maybe you might get it. They deserve to be called out wherever they are found. This site is one of many where educated folks do a good job of doing just that.
