Thanks for your comments about the Flying Spaghetti Monster and all the supporters who have sent their support to members of the Kansas Board of Education. I am supporting the recommendations of the science committee and am currently in the minority. I think your theory is wonderful and possibly some of the majority members will be willing to support it.

Thanks again,

Dear Mr. Henderson, Thanks for your message. Thanks for the laugh. Your web site is fascinating. I will add your theory to a long list of alternative theories I intend to introduce when it is appropriate. I am practicing how to do this with a straight face which is difficult since it’s such a ridiculous subject; it is also very sad that we are even having the discussion.

I will be one of the four member minority who will be voting against the flawed science standards currently being proposed by the six member majority.

Sincerely,

Sue Gamble

Subject: Kansas State Board of Education

Dear Mr. Henderson,

In the midst of the sad circumstances of having our science standards lowered, you and your legion of fellow FSM followers have offered wonderful comic relief. Rather than the form letters which we often receive on other topics, each FSM letter has been clever and unique. I responded to several at first, but now there have just been too many. I am a member of the Kansas State Board of Education and have voted repeatedly to maintain excellent science standards. Last week was the vote to send a new draft (written by the 6 conservative members) out for external review. The four of us on the board who are moderates were in the minority on the vote. The group of science teachers and university professors who had written the original standards (before they were changed) have now asked that their names be withdrawn from the document. The new version changes the very definition of science from “seeking natural explanations” to “seeking logical explanations”. That is why I think FSMism is able to be included. It is as “logical” as any other theory.

The final vote on the standards will be in October. We will be in Lawrence, Kansas for that meeting. Those of us who are moderates on the board are trying to have the meeting in the Natural History Museum at the University of Kansas. We think that would be an appropriate setting for the occasion. We welcome you to be in attendance.

We have received thousands of emails from scientists around the world. At first, they all tried to explain good science to us. After the vote last week, however, they have resorted to calling us hillbillies and morons. And those are the nice letters!

Thank you for adding levity to this situation. You have developed quite a following. I was wondering if we could reverse the effects of global warming if we started breeding pirates.

Sincerely,
Carol Rupe

P.S. I ordered a Kansas Museum of Science t-shirt. I may just have to wear it to a board meeting.

    Wow… FSMism is great.
It makes about as much sense as any other religion. If there’s a Church of Scientology, why not a Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster?
    I’m definitely converted.

“It is a serious offense to mock God.”
Who besides you is going to get offended, really? Every time someone shouts “Goddamn!” or “For the love of God,” it’s supposed to be disobeying one of the Ten Commandments “Do not use the Lord’s name in vain,” or something like that.
And yet I have never seen anybody been struck by lightning or have a terrible accident after saying such things.
If there really is an all-powerful God who created the universe, why in the world would He get offended(and that’s probably who we should be worried about offending, not you.)? I’m convinced that, if there is a God, he has a wonderful sense of humor. After all, He “created us”, right? He’s probably up there busting a gut at all of the dumb things we do everyday.
What I’m saying is this: People, especially hardcore Christians, shouldn’t worry too much about pseudo-religions like this. They’re just a joke, honestly, nobody is mocking your God. They’re just trying to prove the point that anything is possible when you have no proof against it(which, actually, kind of works in your favor).
Maybe you see your goal as to convert people to your religion, but accusing them of heinous crimes they feel are stupid isn’t the way to go about it.
I support the idea of the FSM because it proves a very good point in a clever and humorous way. It’s a brilliant idea, and I must say that I’m rather jealous of Mr. Henderson for thinking of it first.
    Long live the FSM,
    Ms. Emily R.

I AM willing to see many ideas taught in the school system as long as children get to hear the debate and look at options. I AM the creator and also have a sense of humor.

The the I AM most excited about is to get more than evolution looked at. If that means I AM discussed in the context of other logical answers such as Spaghetti then that is fine.

Thanks for supporting that there could be more to this world than just what the Goo Crew are talking about.

A friend actually told me about his noodly appendix, and at first I had a great laugh.
But it actually makes a lot of sense. I’ve always loved anything made of pasta or anything noodly, so why not worship it? I already worship great food, so why not the master of all (great tasting) food?
I agree about the pirats issue. Though I haven’t foundn’t any real clothing yet, I now own a pirate T-shirt-, bag-, shoes-, earrings-, movies-, jeans- and a wallet. Hello pirates, bye global warming.

I am proposing a scientific and mathematical undertaking to define the existence of the FSM and pastafarianism hidden within secret codes in all the great literary works of antiquity. I believe that it can be shown that the FSM had his noodles in the noodles of all writers of consequence throughout history.

From the Bible to Beowulf, from Shakespeare to Keats, from Kipling to Shelly and from Bulfinch to The Arabian Nights, all great literary works will demonstrate undeniable evidence of the noodly appendages of the FSM.

To this end, I propose that a foundation be set up which will fund true scientific exploration of all significant literary works. These works will be scanned, via high resolution scanners into a computer. The electronic documents will then be examined by optical character recognition software, which will be compared to the original documents by multiple human screeners to insure accuracy.

Once the document character matrix has been verified, special software will analyze the documents for periodic and repeating references to the FSM, Pastafarianism and other relavent materials to the one true religion, utilizing the modern and pioneering techniques of equidistant letter spacing (ELS). Along with this, I recommend a new and novel approach of RLS, or Random Letter Sequencing. This new technique will look for letters at random distances from each other in mulitple dimensions, and will likely yield greater and more startling results than the earlier process of ELS. Combining the two scientific methods, it is my conjecture that we should be able to demonstrate beyond any statistical doubt that the Flying Spaghetti Monster is the one true creator of the universe.

I am willing to spearhead this effort, and wish to engage the help of any and all fiscally capable individuals to provide the means to make this holy endeavor a reality. We are in desparate need of high-resolution, large-format color scanners, computing hardware, office space and fiscal support for the human aspect of this project.

    Thank you.

    The best anesthetizing Tramadol

A good pain reliever for moderate to severe pain is the analgesic medication Tramadol.
Also called Ultram, this pain reliever is not a member of the NSAID
(nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug) class of medications
that are commonly prescribed for pain. It is not a narcotic drug either.
Tramadol is a unique medication that has properties of both NSAIDs
and narcotics while not having the negative side effects of either one.

You people in Kansas are trying to teach religion as a science. Science is meant to be discussed, dissected, and argued about. Since “God’s” word is law, in your religion, why are you opening it for debate?

Also, isn’t Sunday School (or whatever form you have your worship services in) good enough? Just stick to “preaching to the choir” then trying to push it on others.

I have contraindisputable proof that the FlyingSpaghettiMonster exists and that he is PISSED! Yes that’s right, he is mad as hell about recent movements to teach Intelligent Design. The proof? I can no longer find Raviolios in my local supermarkets. These non-noodly sacraments have been taken from us, mysteriously vanished from the face of the Earth over the past year. They are no longer sold at my local ACME. I can’t find them at Giant. I have searched in vain for these holy cans at Landis, Hennings, Giant, Superfresh, Shoprite, Food Emporium, Genaurdi’s, Vidalia, Clemen’s, Costco, Food Lion, Safeway, Walmart, Pathmark, Kmart, Wawa, and even 7 Eleven. Something’s up. The end of the can is near. I have faith in HIS all knowing powerful wisdom. But I’m hungry anyway.

“It is a serious offense to mock God.”

I guess Mrs. Martin, did not realized that it wasn’t God being mocked, but her, with the idea that she can somehow twist the Scientific Method, which was founded on objective rational principals, instill it with her own brand of irrational delusion, and then still have the stones to call to try and call it Science.

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
