As a scientist, I’d like to say that the currently accepted scientific theory is evolution. But, some competing ideas have been proposed, such as ID and FSMism, and discussion to include one should include the other, as these ideas are equally valid.
– Mark Zurbuchen, Ph.D.

As a medical practitioner and scientist, I wholeheartedly believe that every theory and hypothesis needs full consideration and explanation with formal ratification by peer review. We have a duty to inform our schools and presumably pasta should form a staple part of our educational diet.
– Dr. A. Macintyre (UK)

Letting the religious right teach ID in schools is like letting the Marines teach poetry in advanced combat training. As a scientist, I see these the relevancy between the two sets to be equal. If Kansas is going to mess up like this, the least it can do is not be hypocritical and allow equal time for other alternative “theories” like FSMism, which is by far the tastier choice.
– J. Simon, PhD

One of the hardest things to do as a scientist is to put my personal beliefs aside when discussing matters of science. So as a professional, I have to say that both forms of Intelligent Design – ID and ID-FSM are equally valid and if intelligent design is taught in schools, equal time should be given to the FSM theory and the non-FSM theory. But, speaking personally now, it seems to me the FSM theory is MUCH more plausable than the non-FSM ID theory, because it is the only one of the two that takes into account all the discrepancies between ID and measureable objective reality.
– Professor Douglas Shaw, Ph.D

In discussing competing theories, if one is to present ID then it is only fair and logical to teach other theories with commensurate evidence. Based on Mr. Henderson’s letter, it is clear that the FSM theory has evidence comparable in weight to ID. As a scientist and professor, it is often difficult to present differing opinions in an unbiased way. However, it is important to the student to be exposed to these ideas to form their own opinions. This comes right out of the handbook of the ID purporters: present the different “theories” and let the listener decide. If those in favor of ID are so convinced, then they should not be concerned that the presentation of the FSM theory would serve to undermine the credibility of ID.
– Elizabeth Garrett-Mayer, PhD

At one time, I believed as the Aztecs did, that the universe was created by two gods, Quetzalcoatl and Tezcatlipoca who attacked and ripped apart Hungry Woman to create the universe. Then I believed, as the Moriori do, that the universe was created when Papa and her husband Rangi hugged and bore children, and were subsequently separated by their son Tane who let light shine between them. However, my views have been swayed by the substantial evidence that the earth and universe was actually created relatively recently by the Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM). I am firmly convinced that the evidence supporting this depiction of the origins of life, the universe, and everything has many of the trappings of science, and I therefore support the inclusion of FSM creation evidence in the Kansas science curriculum and standards.
– Sebastian Wren, Ph.D

One of the most exciting developments in fundamental physics in the last twenty years has been the development of so-called “String Theory.” In String Theory, all fundamental sub-atomic particles are visualized and described mathematically as microscopic vibrating strings. Although as yet unproven, many physicists believe that String Theory has the potential to become the long-sought “Theory of Everything,” through which the fundamental physical nature of all matter and forces will become understood.

Obviously String Theory IS correct, although misnamed (a secular humanist conspiracy perhaps?). As NOODLE Theory clearly unambiguously reveals, He has created the fundamental subatomic particles that form all matter in this universe in His own quivering image! You, me, the Earth, the stars…everything in the universe…are all built of trillions of tiny jiggling noodles, microscopic copies of our Divine Saucy Maker. Truly He is everywhere and in all things!
Boy-oh-Boyardi and Ramen!
–Steve Lawrence, PhD

As a scientist I believe that when presented with a new idea every possibility should be considered so we can eventually find the truth. It would be very biased if the only possibilities presented would be regulated by some authority. As a scientist I am biased towards the theory of evolution, but this does not mean that everyone should be forced to only learn this and believe this. Putting this aside, I feel if the government feels the need to regulate what students need to learn, then all ideas should be taught in school. Not only Intelligent Design (ID) should be taught, but the theory of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) should also be taught. In my scientific opinion when comparing the two theories, FSM theory seems to be more valid then the classic ID theory. There is more data to back FSM then I have ever seen for ID. The graph which was presented should alone more convincing then anything ID has ever presented. I endorse the FSM theory.
–Afshin Beheshti, PhD

As a scienctist, I think that ID is a form of pseudoscience–nothing more, nothing less. Pseudosciences lack the well-designed and carefully-interpreted experiments which characterize the true sciences. ID is popular because it provides the general public with an easily understood “answer” to nature’s complexity. Why is it human nature to try to fill the gaps in science with some form of a deity? Nobel laureate Richard Feynman, in his response the Challenger disaster, wrote, “For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled.” It is too bad that many in the USA have fallen into the ID trap, and are making emotional rather than logical decisions.

That being said, and the more I consider ID and the Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) theory, the FSM theory has a lot going for it. First, it should satisfy even the most ardent ID detractors. Secondly, since everyone needs to eat and to believe in something, the FSM theory fulfills these desires. Finally, FSM neatly ties together the many ideas about the creation of the universe. I plan on exposing my students to the FSM theory over a pasta dinner.

I firmly believe that the Noodle Theory must be true. With all these bright, intelligent, well educated and open-minded people supporting it.

Today the Pastafari demonstrated at the EO television station in the Netherlands. EO is the Christian station here who happen to indoctrine the people and censure their broadcast to keep their public away from the truth, our truth, the only truth and nothing but the truth.

I can only admire these leaders in our holy war against all who do not share our religion.

Also, today the first Dutch passport with pirat picture has been made because a pastafari believer was not willing to uncloth for religious reasons. I think we have a breakthrough here where we are recognized as a religious organisation which should be accounted for.

My blessings to all of you. Don’t let the disbelievers make Macaroni of you.

    Long, completely irrelevant post warning!
    .
    Vincent:
    .
    Starry
    starry night
paint your palette blue and grey

look out on a summer’s day
    with eyes that know the
    darkness in my soul.
    Shadows on the hills
sketch the trees and the daffodils

catch the breeze and the winter chills

in colors on the snowy linen land.
And now I understand what you tried to say to me

how you suffered for your sanity
how you tried to set them free.
    They would not listen
    they did not know how

    perhaps they’ll listen now.

    Starry
    starry night
    flaming flo’rs that brightly blaze

swirling clouds in violet haze reflect in
    Vincent’s eyes of China blue.
    Colors changing hue
    morning fields of amber grain

    weathered faces lined in pain
    are soothed beneath the artist’s
    loving hand.
And now I understand what you tried to say to me

how you suffered for your sanity
how you tried to set them free.
    perhaps they’ll listen now.

For they could not love you
but still your love was true

and when no hope was left in sight on that starry
    starry night.
    You took your life
    as lovers often do;
But I could have told you
    Vincent
    this world was never
    meant for one
    as beautiful as you.

    Starry
    starry night
    portraits hung in empty halls

    frameless heads on nameless walls
    with eyes
that watch the world and can’t forget.
Like the stranger that you’ve met

the ragged men in ragged clothes

the silver thorn of bloddy rose
    lie crushed and broken
    on the virgin snow.
And now I think I know what you tried to say to me

how you suffered for your sanity

how you tried to set them free.
    They would not listen
    they’re not
    list’ning still
    perhaps they never will.

Welcome to the church of the FSM. We don’t get many Islamists usually, it’s mostly christian fundies here.
I can’t read a word of what you say, except for the link to an online version of the Koran. Assuming that you’re preaching to us, you do know we we get a far better deal right? We get hot stripper angels in paradise, you get totally inexperienced nervous clumsy vergins who lack even the most basic bit of technique. And we get them without blowing ourselves up into an untimely death. Think about it, it really would make sense for you to convert to Pastafarianism. I know, except for that small matter that your fellow Islamists might condemn you to death for abandoning Islam, depending on what country you live in. But don’t worry, Pastafarianism will soon take over the world and we’ll put a stop to all that nonsense. So you can look forward to a better life.

  30. 480 - Dr Stevens - Sep 1st, 2007

    Hello…….
I feel I simply must add a piece to this debate about the creation or everything and the various theories available. Although I have a Ph. D and can give much solid evidence for creation by a Flying Spaghetti Monster (which is indeed as reasonable theory as any) I feel it is more important here to speak of faith. Then what evidence do I really “need”? What evidence can possibly compare to the “knowledge” of faith. I feel we are all allowing ourselves to be slightly mislead by topics of proof and by comparing our faith to other religions that, let us be honest, are simply just “made up” (I speak here of trinities of Gods that are one that send sons or a son in “human form” down to Earth and so on). This is simply the kind of revolution-inducing twoddle that people think up for themselves after drunken nights, with no other intention than to upset the status quo and cause damaging tears in the fabric of truth. They have their place as a form of humour (I myself am a person who “enjoys a good laugh every now and again”) but to endorse such things as serious belief is to play a dangerous game with faith.
This is not a subject for petty witticisms; something to muse irreverently over and even scientific evidence has no place here. No it is faith and the power of faith that is the issue here.
I think these poor, lost people who feel the need to “invent” such ludicrous fallacies in order to ridicule that which is so obviously true and right, should be pitied. We of the church of HIM should be tolerant and loving enough to see beyond their humorous attacks, knowing them for what they are, and, instead of lowering ourselves to their level, to help and lift them up to ours; be caring of those who are lacking faith, it is not their fault. Pity them as you would a lame duck, dog or aardvark, or even yourself; for you too may have a time when your faith wanes.
We live in a world of great confusion complicated by these pseudo-religions (especially those created with the sole purpose of only adding to the confusion). Pity I say, and faith.
And for those following such faiths I say…You “know” in your heart of hearts that you are toying with the truth. Open up and allow true truth to enter you. Be not confused by lies of “evidence” and stories of men. Wake, open your eyes and say out loud “I WANT to believe” He is greater than all of this, than us and you, and he WILL hear.
More faith and tolerance I beg and less……..sillyness.

I really did actually take the trouble to go to the linked site and peruse your “belief”.
    I found a rather interesting passage…

“In their hearts is a disease; and Allah has increased their disease: and grievous is the penalty they (incur), because they are false (to themselves).”

I considered these lines for a while, with a great feeling of genuine, heartfelt grief for the writer who is obviously on the right track, but on the wrong train. At once I was taken with an idea, one could say….an inspiration.

“In their hearts is a disease; and JESUS has increased their disease: and grievous is the penalty they (incur), because they are false (to themselves).”

“In their hearts is a disease; and WODIN has increased their disease: and grievous is the penalty they (incur), because they are false (to themselves).”

“In their hearts is a disease; and JAWEH has increased their disease: and grievous is the penalty they (incur), because they are false (to themselves).”

“In their hearts is a disease; and SATAN has increased their disease: and grievous is the penalty they (incur), because they are false (to themselves).”

It occurred to me that they are but words. Just the slightest of changes and they not only lose their entire meaning, but they deform all about them. One infinitesimally small change and the entire context is altered. One can’t help but thinking of chaos theory and the butterfly effect.

I thought back to a snippet out of a television show I saw where a chap of suffering from Islam confronted a Mr Dawkins and asked of him how science could think itself so arrogant as to even attempt to comprehend the incomprehensibility of God (poor, deluded chap).
I wondered how his book (a translation of Gods own words written by man) could possibly hope to make comprehensible something that is by its very nature incomprehensible.
We do not need comprehension of God, he said, we need only belief.
I am sure a person suffering from Christianity will understand his sentiments as he too will be one of belief.
The person suffering from Hinduism will also understand, as will the sufferer of Judaism.
This would apply to the sufferer of any religion……yes, even the dear, dear Satanist.

They all claim to be bearers of the truth, and the only truth at that. They would all pity those of the other beliefs because “….they are false (to themselves).”

I can understand your confusion. We are but toys of HIM and we grasp at straws out of which we hope to make rafts, dugouts, small canoes, prettily painted kayaks, paddle boats in the amusing shapes of animals, cruise liners and pirate ships with which to save ourselves. Not only is HE incomprehensible, but any attempt to comprehend HIM is instantly confounded by HIM to immediately make HIM even more incomprehensible. The more we learn the less we can truly know, and the more we know the less we can truly learn.
I could alter the sentence to:

“In their hearts is a disease; and HE has increased their disease: and grievous is the penalty they (incur), because they are false (to themselves).”

but this would not be true. HE increases not their dis-ease, they increase their dis-ease themselves. HE has no interest in increasing the dis-ease of anyone. HE would not preoccupy HIMSELF with such pettiness as to increase the dis-ease of any of us. We are products of HE. To to do us harm or violence would be to do harm or violence to HIMSELF.
We are able to be false to ourselves then HE has made us so, but beyond our deeds is the truth; the incomprehensible truth. We can act as we please; then beyond every other belief and every other “God” is the truth……they are all appendages of the one truth.

It hurts to see fellows blindly wander in the dire barren wastes of delusion, but fear not, there are others here to aid and guide. Take a friends hand (or be he a pirate, his hook) and follow. And know that all is cradled in the warm softness of HIS ever loving strands.
Believe in your Gods…..this is good, then they are all facets of HE and through them HE reaches you all. It is the beautiful delusion, the beautiful delusion that leads us all back to him.
Gods are as noodles in a bowl; Just as all roads lead to Rome, all noodles lead to the meatballs.

“Their buying into it. Maybie your not stupid, maybe your so smart that you were able to get a few thousand people to pay you to preach to them about how an inatimate object wants them to run your lives! If you did plan that, then nice job because its working. I hope this religion shows the rest of the world how ludacris people can be sometimes.”

    1. We don’t buy, me hearty, it’s free.
    2. HE is not inanimate!
    3. Plan? Plan? What a “ludicrous” thought!
    4. This religion can show nothing to no one. There is nothing to show. There is only the noodled knowledge that all is HE and HE is all (and that HE is also spaghetti….bless his appendages!)

RAmen and may ye walk the eternal plank…..arrrrgh!

FSM is a far tastier belief than any other psuedo-scientific religion known to man. It is best enjoyed after a good boil with flavory additions. Shall we all be touched by the Supreme Noodle and live lives filled with spaghetti goodness. RAMEN.

    @Maggie,

I think not. Look at the number of highly qualified people who agree with FSMism. What qualifications do YOU have to make that judgement? Methinks it is you who is stupid.

    Define stupid!
Is a stupid person someone who creates a constructive counterargument in the form of a mirror image to a belief system that ridicules intelligence and denies all of the work of those who have given us the insights into the world in which we live. Or is a stupid person someone who spells you “U” and fucking without a “g”?
Do you deny that pirates existed? We have records that pirates existed!
Do you deny that natural catastrophes have increased since the demise of the pirates? We have recorded this to be the case!
Maybe you deny the existence of an intelligent designer? Then who or what “made” all of this?
Maybe you think we are all mad because we claim that this intelligent designer is a bundle of spaghetti with meatballs? Am I closer to the truth?
    Ahh…I thought so!
    Of course the belief that the designer sits on a cloud surrounded by harp-playing angels; exists in three forms that are one (depending on your branch of this faith), created the Earth in seven days 6000 years ago by blowing life into mud; was quite happy to have his son brutally done to death so that YOU could end up misspelling “you” and “fucking”;
that this designer went from being…I quote another stupid person the “.. most unpleasant character in all of fiction. Jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic-cleanser; a misogynistic homophobic racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential and megalomaniacal.” to the gentle, loving creator we have to-day, is obviously much more sensible!

May your sauce forever overflow, but not on to your pants.
May HIS appendage touch your soul.
    Arrrrghghgh!

Just another thing Maggie (if indeed that is your real name!) maybe something only appears stupid due to your being misinformed as to what is happening here (here being in this forum and in the world around us as regards this subject). When Einsteins said “there is no ether” they thought him insane; when the theory was postulated that light “always” travels at 86,000 miles per second no matter what, guess what “they” thought; when poor old Copernicus and Galileo said the Earth is not the centre of all but revolves about the Sun “they” nearly killed them (well Galileo at least)…..why? Because these men were stupid………or were “they” ignorant of the truth?
    Is there an ether?
How fast is light in your world?
Does your Earth revolve around your Sun or vice verse?

May HE wrap you in his warm and tender noodles!

Obviously these people you claim are endorsing your cause don’t believe in an intelligent design, yet you post their comments. Your support of this joke of fsm identifies an intelligent designer, the very thing the people you quote DO NOT believe in. They are spring-boarding off your ideas to bash another’s, similar to your own. Sadly enough, you will get people to follow this line of thinking because they feel they have to have something to focus on. Although this happens to many in every facet of life, taking a joke so far as to mis-direct someone away from truth is irresponsible. But as God works everything to the good of His will, someone will see the Truth based on your mis-direction and for that I will give honor, respect and praise to God. As mis-guided as you all are that support this stuff, anyone who looks to God for direction and puts their faith in Him will be given what He promises in His Word.

@Read the PHDs comments (note the lack of an apostrophe)
If these people don’t believe in FSMism, then why do they support it? I really could say the same thing about all the IDiots out there, because their proposition isn’t even consistent with itself.
“anyone who looks to God for direction and puts their faith in Him will be given what He promises in His Word.”
First off, it should be his/her, not their (everybody seems to make this mistake, how did it become so prevalent?). That aside, I agree wholeheartedly with the gist of what you were trying to say; everybody who believes in the (nonexistent) christian god will be given everything said god promised (nothing, because god doesn’t exist).

I think equally, the FSM theory is based on correlations that so accurate that I wouldn’t hesitate to publish them in a Ph.D. thesis. Therefore this theory has a scientifical background which makes it appealing to both – those who need evidence and those who know that the wonderfullness of everything he created is evidence alone.
The only problem I have with this theory is that it is a little sexist for boys have a noddle while girls do not. Does this mean we are more equal than the females? On the other side femals come along with two meat balls on their bow so we can call it even I think.

“… Oh, and get this in your think heads: Women=Person. Man=Person. Samey-Samey. One is not better than the other, unless we’re talking about fashion and I’m sorry, but i gave that to women and some guys who know the difference between teal and fuchsia.”
Yeah, it’s not an exact quote, but I’m to lazy to make it perfect.
Also, I know teal is a fancy word for blue, but does anybody know what fuchsia is?

Fuchia is a plant the flowers of which look like little ballet dancers. The colour fuchia is magenta.

All praise HE who is warm and noodly!

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
