When you have 3.6 Billion adherents

Published November 27th, 2010 by Bobby Henderson

When you have 3.6 Billion adherents to your faith, we can start talking about teaching your ideas in school. When you think you’re right or not the decision on whether or not to teach creationism in school should come from the majority and the fact is 82.3% of Americans are christian and therefore believe that the earth was created by God and only 11.6 are unaffiliated with a religion, of which only a fraction are atheist or agnostic. Take out the agnostics because if they’re really agnostic they won’t care what’s being taught in school, and we’re talking about a small number of really loud people that are trying to force their beliefs on the rest of the country. How messed up is that. I’m not going to force my beliefs on you. I think that’s why they did the whole separation of church and state thing, so that a certain belief system, Evolution included, would not be forced upon the population. So teach evolution, go ahead, I know for a fact that Brigham Young University and Brigham Young University Idaho, two christian schools teach evolution in their required classes, but if you’re going to teach one THEORY, and I emphasize theory not fact, then give credence to other theories that bare any social impact on our society. Like how about a theory that more than 50% of the world subscribes to? Anyway, peace be the journey, I give you credit for some funny stuff, like pirates and global warming, but don’t pretend to take nothing seriously if you actually do have very serious agenda.
–Jordan

All religions go through a phase of perceived fakeness. Funny you bring up BYU.  Mormonism got a lot of criticism for years because Joseph Smith used seer stones to find the location of their original scriptures and translate them from unknown languages.  Some might say that sounds like BS.  But with time and pressure it becomes a religion.  Not unlike the formation of rocks.  I am a scientist first, remember.

I find it funny how this guy emphasizes that evolution is a theory, and then goes on to say that the Christian belief in God is also a theory. A theory is a well-tested hypothesis, that has never been disproven despite numerous tests. One cannot test the belief in God, so it cannot become a theory. In fact, since there is no evidence for God, it cannot even be a hypothesis. In reality it is a guess. So I don’t understand how these people want something that’s nothing more than a guess to be taught alongside the well-tested theory that is evolution.

    • Keith says:

There are plenty of sources for finding out what “theory” means in science but the creatards keep trotting out the same rubbish. I don’t think that it is because they have never encountered the explanation: I just think they do it to muddy the waters. A common ploy by these people is to throw as many objections at you as they can because they know you cannot answer all of them in the short time they give. As I have said before, it is like playing tennis against someone with a shotgun.

Look under the evolution section. It basically says the exact same thing.

This dude must know that today
at leats admits that evo its a theory
i stand up to my spidy theory

but not only in moses times, king david do the same shit
im bored so you must read your bible and found out what happens to the womands and childrens

    • Keith says:

Spiderman and the biblical Jesus share two things in common: they both have superpowers and both have the same basis in reality.

  3. Kukard says:

There are 3.6 billion people that identify as christians. Even that is questionable. Ask any of them if they truly believe eve was created from a rib or any of that nonsense. That is what this site is about. Not hating christians, but asking them to examine their beliefs that were given to them by indoctrination. Or isit a mere coincidence that most people are the same religion and hold the same beliefs as their parents. Think about it, really think about it andthis site will make more sense to you

    • Apprentice Frederic says:

@ Kukard: sensibly stated. The original post is dated, but Jordan’s stupidity eternal:

“….Take out the agnostics because if they’re really agnostic they won’t care what’s being taught in school…” Agnostics, along with whoever else relies on science to cure disease, build computers, ease our travels, and struggle against irrational bigotry (the complete list would be substantially longer) actually DO and WILL care about what should be taught in school.

“… and we’re talking about a small number of really loud people that are trying to force their beliefs on the rest of the country….” Not quite right: We’re talking about a LARGE number of really loud people that are trying to force beliefs that have no real basis down the rest of our throats. Worse yet, the implicit assumption is that votes have anything to do with the validity of work in geology, biochemistry, genetics, or astrophysics (the complete list would be substantially longer). Worst of all, of course, is the smug obtuseness with which our pal triumphantly plays the THEORY card.

    • Excelsior says:

      Kukard,
Your statistics are way off. There are only 2.1 billion Christians. However there are 1.6 billion Muslims who worship the same God (the God of Abraham) and if you lump them together that gives you 3.6 billion. BTW the Muslims get 72 virgins when they get to heaven and you only get a harp! So you shouldn’t lump them together because then there wouldn’t be enough virgins to go around!
Pastafarians don’t hate anyone, we just feel sorry for the God-lovers because they were brain-washed (indoctrinated is the wrong word to use,) from birth and don’t know any better! They are like the TERMINATER ( his brain was hard-wired) who can’t be reasoned with!

  4. Andrew says:

I would like to know where this person got his (or her, Jordan is a unisex name) facts. about 1/3 of the world population self identifies as Christian, not more than half. The third most popular belief worldwide is to have none at all, that of atheism, with Muslim/Islam at 2nd. the number of American Christians is also overstated by about 10%.

    • TheFewTheProudTheMarinara says:

True. They probably count everyone baptized into a certain religion, though it may be decades since they believed and participated in that, or any other religion.

      • SillyKiwiMan says:

I also think they spout what they’d like to be true as a fact.

Unfortunately that one transcends faith. Everyone with a fervent belief does it.

  5. Trillan says:

Maybe religion shouldn’t be taught in school because it’s not proven. It’s not even a science. With that, I’ll leave.

    • Captain Birdseye says:

Trillan, I think that education about religion is important at school because kids will likely be confronted by it on the outside. My school had Religious Knowledge classes and each week we studied a different religion. None of them was proposed as either right or wrong. Some people make futile attempts to make a science out of a religion, and vice-versa.
I disagree with Andrew that atheism is a belief. The prefix a- means ‘absence of’. He will need to find another prefix if he wishes to convey the meaning ‘belief that something is not’. For example, amoral means something quite different to immoral.

      • Excelsior says:

I condescend to religious education in the classroom only if all religions including FSM and Atheism are given equal time. All Gods are created equal (No Gods is also equal) so there mustn’t be any preferential religion. Also all evil cults that try to murder everyone with a different idiology (like ISIS, AlQaida, Boko Haram, Taliban Etc.) should be included with no whitewashing allowed.

  6. happy_Psycho says:

This person is not very intelligent. I am Christian and I believe in evolution, and not that God said Bippity boppity boo and created earth. This guy is a total ass.

  7. Rasputin says:

The problem with conventional religions is the “God of the gaps” scenario. Bit by bit the Buybull’s claims are revealed as being impossible. Hundreds of years ago Christians believed that the sun orbits the earth and that the world was created in six days only a few thousands of years ago. So Christians say, “Yeah that bit is wrong. God “dumbed it down” for people who lived in a pre-scientific era, but the rest of it is true”. God retreats into the gaps which can’t be disproved. Many Christians don’t take it seriously that Mary was impregnated directly by God. Eventually we’re left with only with the idea that Jesus was a really nice guy who said good things and was murdered by an unjust legal system. Instead of being God incarnate, he’s no different from the Germans who stood up to Hitler or the American civil rights activists of the 1960s. Whilst Jesus is a genuine historical figure who really existed, most of his words only came to be written hundreds of years after his death. A lot of what we read in both the new and old testaments is pure invention. At least we know where we stand with the FSM.

    • Excelsior says:

      Rasputin:
The only thing of value ever said by Jesus is The Golden Rule, a universal standard for morality. However, it was not created by the son of God. The Great Chinese Sage Confucius invented it 550 years before Jesus was born! Jesus just plagerized it!
BTW, God’s Penis was extra small so it could sneak past Mary’s hymen and left her a “virgin”. To let God save face they invented the term “immaculate conception”!

      • Rasputin says:

The FSM’s noodly appendage is narrow but much much longer. Plus the FSM has bigger balls.

      • Keith says:

There are several websites you can go to that will tell you the “virgin” was a mistranslation of “young woman”. If this is the case then the Catholics in particular have been barking up the wrong tree for centuries.

        • Excelsior says:

          Keith,
God was like a lot of the trollers here who have attrocious spelling so he had to get someone else to write the Bible for him. His reading ability was also very retarded so he couldn’t catch the typos. There is also so much contradiction and gobble-de-gook in the Bible so that I sometimes read it as humor to give me a few chortles when I’m in a pensive mood! For instance Jesus says to the criminal being crucified next to him: “I’ll see you in heaven today.” Now there are two jokes here! 1-Jesus welcomes criminals to heaven but a saint of another religion goes to hell! 2-Everyone knows that Jesus has to stay dead for 3 days so how can he see this criminal in heaven today??

        • Keith says:

Another thing that has been pointed out is that if Jesus rose from the dead it means that he was alive for a time. If he didn’t stay dead it couldn’t really be a sacrifice.

  8. Rasputin says:

Dear Keith and Excelsior, you’re both absolutely correct. And to think people used to believe such nonsense. Accepting the FSM into our lives is liberating.
