I don’t know if you realize just how offensive this letter is. Obviously, it’s satirical and some may think “clever,” but mockery is never wise.
I’ve never been able to understand why it is that those who call themselves “atheist,” “agnostic,” or whatever other label they wish can’t see that, in all reality, intelligent design (or rather a relationship with Christ) is the more intelligent route. If we (Christians) are wrong, then who cares? Nothing will happen to us because there is no after life, no higher power, no second death, but at least we lived a life worthy of something. We had something to look forward to, and hey, if it isn’t true then we’ll never know cause we’ll be DEAD. On the other hand, if Christians are right, those self-proclaimed atheists (etc) are pretty much screwed. What did you live for? Advancement of human life? By what? Living for yourself; living according to your own standards. In my opinion, your religion (yes, atheism is a religion) is selfish and irresponsible. The only reason you don’t want to admit that there may just be a higher power is because you don’t want to answer to it. You don’t want to have to change your lifestyle; to live according to HIS standards.
I’m so sorry that you feel this way. I pray for people like you each and every night. I pray that God will hit you over the head with some sense and knock you to your knees.
And FYI: Intelligent design has just as much (if not more) merit as the evolutionary theory. Evolution is a theory: it hasn’t been proven. There may seem to be evidence, but you may be forgetting one minor detail: care to explain how the first cell appeared? Where it all began? Good luck because, unfortunately for you, even if there isn’t “overwhelming evidence” that there is a God, we Christians will have lived a fuller life knowing and believing that we have been saved by the power of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. We are loved far greater than we can comprehend. And guess what, so are you. God loves you, even if you don’t know that yet.

“The only reason you don’t want to admit that there may just be a higher power is because you don’t want to answer to it. You don’t want to have to change your lifestyle; to live according to HIS standards.” This is not true. Most of us live at least as moraly as any Christian or member of any other faith, but with the exception that we rarely try to convert others to our beliefs.
Still, at least this one can spell.
I sometimes wonder how often, if ever, these hatemailers read their comments.
I find that she did have a good point, that it does make a good “insurance policy,” as Uthor referred to it as, to believe in Christianity so that she wouldn’t be damned in the non-existant afterlife. Though, it might not work, seeing as she is believing in her god for the wrong reasons.
May his Noodly Appendage touch you all

The thing that you said Carly, about it being more intelligent to believe than not to believe, it has a name and it’s called Pascal’s Wager. However, even Pascal felt that true faith was based upon more than just the knowledge that – in terms of probability – you were in a better position believing than not believing. What you said about the first cell appearing, that’s the point of evolutionary theory, it didn’t just appear. You would be right to say that the exact details of abiogenesis (the theory of how life came out of inanimate matter) are not known, although there are many people researching in this field at this moment in time. I don’t want to tell you that you are wrong but I do strongly feel that you should go out there and read and learn about these things yourself so that you can make an informed decision about what you believe. I myself am an atheist and I take great offense at your assumption that my religion, as you deem it, means that I am selfish and irresponsible. Atheism, as a theistic position, does not prescribe any particular morals but just because I don’t get my morals from a book written 1940 and more years ago, doesn’t mean I don’t have any. I respect everybody’s opinion and maybe you might learn a lot if you started too as well.
I have to say that I am offended by your lack of spell check. I am more likely to listen respectfully to someone who can spell, use words correctly, takes the time to type well, uses creative argument effectively and that thoughtfully puts their sentences together in an intelligent, cohesive and persuasive way. Having said that… Oh My Godzilla, your sense of humor is missing. Quick run down to the store where I am sure that you REALLY worship at the altar of consumerism and buy another.
And might I add, eat. more. pasta. Laugh right now. All right me maties, arrrrrrghhhhh. FSM could be peeking right now over your shoulder.
So this “God” that loves me SOOOO much is going to condemn me to an eternity of pain and suffering? Simply because I choose to think for myself and not follow a bunch of arbitrary (not to mention often contradictory) words in a book of Bronze Age stories?
Yeah, that’s love.
Here’s a bit of education for you, Carly.
Religion – noun – a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.
Atheism – noun – disbelief in the existence of a supreme being or beings.
Therefor, Atheism BY DEFINITION can not be a religion.
Do you realize how offensive your “prayers” are? You obviously think we are in need of some kind of betterment by way of your sky wizard. You are cordially invited to fuck off. How would you feel if a follower of Wicca were to come tell you that you are absolutely wrong and you need guidance from the Mother Spirit (or whatever it is they follow)?
I’ve noticed a common thread from you “I’ll pray for you” types. It’s always “So what if we’re wrong? If we are it won’t matter”. So I’ll turn it around on you and re-ask my initial question.
So what if I’m wrong? If “God” really loves me he’ll forgive me and welcome me into paradise anyway.

While I will leave the defense of the scientific method to those better able to do so, I ask you look at the above link before suggesting that agnosticism is a religion. Understanding language is a must here.
Thanks,
Fritz
Correction: she said atheism, not agnosticism. Apologies.
And what if Pastafarians should be right? You’ll be doomed to an eternity of stale beer.
Anyway, one thing I never get is this puritanical notion that a life spent living for fun and self-gratification is a life wasted, while a life spent working hard to benefit someone else (martyrdom?) is the best possible use of a life. Idiotic, although I’m more than happy to let them continue in their delusion as long as they stay out of my life.
