I don’t know if you realize just how offensive this is

Published April 19th, 2010 by Bobby Henderson

I don’t know if you realize just how offensive this letter is. Obviously, it’s satirical and some may think “clever,” but mockery is never wise.

I’ve never been able to understand why it is that those who call themselves “atheist,” “agnostic,” or whatever other label they wish can’t see that, in all reality, intelligent design (or rather a relationship with Christ) is the more intelligent route. If we (Christians) are wrong, then who cares? Nothing will happen to us because there is no after life, no higher power, no second death, but at least we lived a life worthy of something. We had something to look forward to, and hey, if it isn’t true then we’ll never know cause we’ll be DEAD. On the other hand, if Christians are right, those self-proclaimed atheists (etc) are pretty much screwed. What did you live for? Advancement of human life? By what? Living for yourself; living according to your own standards. In my opinion, your religion (yes, atheism is a religion) is selfish and irresponsible. The only reason you don’t want to admit that there may just be a higher power is because you don’t want to answer to it. You don’t want to have to change your lifestyle; to live according to HIS standards.

I’m so sorry that you feel this way. I pray for people like you each and every night. I pray that God will hit you over the head with some sense and knock you to your knees.

And FYI: Intelligent design has just as much (if not more) merit as the evolutionary theory. Evolution is a theory: it hasn’t been proven. There may seem to be evidence, but you may be forgetting one minor detail: care to explain how the first cell appeared? Where it all began? Good luck because, unfortunately for you, even if there isn’t “overwhelming evidence” that there is a God, we Christians will have lived a fuller life knowing and believing that we have been saved by the power of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. We are loved far greater than we can comprehend. And guess what, so are you. God loves you, even if you don’t know that yet.

First “Atheism is a religion” Yeah sure it is. Then not collecting stamps is a hobby, not playing football is a sport, not running is exercising. May I go on? Second, at least there’s evidence to support evolution. What evidence do you have to support intelligent design? The Bible says it’s true? Well Dr. Seuss’ “The Cat in the Hat” tells me that there are giant talking cats. That doesn’t mean we should believe it. Thirdly, we aren’t afraid of answering to a higher power, we just think it’s foolish to believe that a big man in the sky was lonely and created everything. Fourthly, Christianity doesn’t mean you lived a hire and more fulfilled life. In fact, in several occasions religion stunted progress and growth. For instance in the Dark Ages no one lived life to the fullest because they had an imaginary cloud land to look forward to. Lastly, if we are wrong and there is a higher power such as god, then we’ll be protected from his wraith by our noodly master.

First of all, you put a point that isn’t true in parenthesis to clarify that it is true. Atheism is not a religion. I, as an atheist, no this. the prefix A means none or lack of, and theism means religion. By definition, Atheism is a lack of religion. and by definition, a religion is a belief in some supernatural or godlike thing. Please, before you try to spew crap like this, go do some research and look at etymology of words. this isn’t even the main point, but you’re stupid for saying that.

Also, the evolutionary theory is true. The evolutionary theory simply states that organisms change or EVOLVE over time because of natural selection. the existance of evolution is undeniable, whether or not it applies to humans or our origins.

My last point is your saying that if you’re wrong, oh well, and if you’re right you win. That simply makes me laugh. That sounds like you don’t actually believe, but you only follow christianity because there’s no consequence if you’re wrong. That is just pathetic, and if you’re a member of a religion because of that, if you’re right you’re probably going to hell. Also, just because we have no afterlife, our lives are meaningless? if anything, that gives our mortal lives MORE meaning because it’s all we have. Just because we die eventually, and then cease to exist, does not mean that our lives were meaningless. I myself firmly believe that if my life impacted one single person in a positive way, then it was meaningful and worth living.

your arguments not only don’t make sense, they’re trashing YOUR OWN RELIGION. seriously, you need to rethink your beliefs a little bit.

Also, a little side note. We don’t choose to be atheist because we want to go to hell if we’re wrong, that’s what we believe. Believes aren’t chosen, that’s why they’re beliefs. You can’t just start believing in god because if you’re right then you go to heaven and if you’re wrong nothing bad happens. your entire letter is an ill-founded argument and you need to take a look at your own beliefs before you insult ours.

I sincerely feel bad for Carly. See what indoctrination does? He (or she) is so misguided as to believe all these clearly false things. I congratulate them on being polite, though.

    RAmen,

Yes, the indocrination IS sad, Hazel. “but at least we lived a life worthy of something”. Basing your life on a fairy tale makes it all worth while? Really sad.

  8. Tyger says:

Interesting, Carly. Very interesting. Now tell me: Can you prove that G*d created us? At least evolution has some evidence(mitosis, etc.).
