My fiancee and I recently traveled to Santorini, Greece and were delighted to see this lovely item in one of the local artisan shops in the town of Fira. The husband of the shop keeper is a carpenter and made everything in the store by himself, including this box. I’m glad to see that his noodley appendage has reached deep into the heart of the Aegean.

Very few people know that Thera (Santorini) was one of the most ancient centers of Pastafarianism in the 3rd millenium BBH. That said, however, a non-beer volcanic eruption put in some disarray the FSM-believing community. As in most of Mediterranean Region, piracy has been an important economic and spiritual way of life. Now it is encouraging to see this beatiful island thriving again in the truly spirit of Joy of Our Noodly Lord and expecting the next volcanic eruption to be, at least, of beer.

As I understand it, Thera was also home to that great Pastafarian civilisation “Atlantas”.

Truly indeed, Thumper. Atlantas (through most of us prefer to write Atlantis) was an ancient Pastafarian civilization that thrived in 2940 BBH (according to Plato). Subseguently, the part of island was subsumed in the ocean. Few survivors managed to escape and founded Atlantic City, from which the Atlantic Ocean is called.

Yes, dear Apprentice Frederic, BBH is an acronym identical to the perhaps more accurate of DPE. I think that our beloved Prophet, for the sake of modesty, would rather use DPE instead of person-centered BBH.

@D of P: Your reply much appreciated! As a corollary to your historical comments, one might wonder if there is study material for Pastafarian archaeologists in comparisons of both DNA and spaghetti recipes between Atlantic City and Santorini/Thera. The box, even without His Inevitable Noodly Intervention, can’t possibly be coincidence…..
An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
