FSM, IPU and Jesus, high-fiving: the tattoo

So here’s my latest tattoo inspired by well, uh, the Almighty FSM. I thought, “what’s cooler than a holy high five between some deities?”

Cool tatoo! I find it interesting how His Noodly Appendages weave in and out of the rays of light.

    Aw, thanks guys and gals!

@ Jamie (#6) – I, too, love how the noodles weave in the light.

@ Anthony (#3) – I get it if tattoos aren’t your bag (they’re not my mom’s either), but I can tell you I will not regret this tattoo (or it’s highly unlikely). I’ve thought about it long and hard, and there are plenty more reasons I have for getting it than just thinking that it was hilarious. But to explain them on here would be self indulgent and long winded (much like this comment of mine). I could easily write a 1000 word essay on the reason, “why?” In fact, I sometimes feel that should be a requirement before some people get tattoos – but who am I to question someone’s taste?

@ DavidH – IPU is the Invisible Pink Unicorn – i think it’s the first of the internet fake dieties.

    Jacobian,

IPU is not a internet fake deity. The fact that the IPU’s Gospel has been preached by Internet long before Christian and Pastafarian religions it does not mean that IPU is an “internet deity”. Moreover, the fact that IPU is Invisible is not a evidence of “fake deity”.

It’s good to see people like Jessica far more tolerant about our beliefs and traditions.

Do Americans go to school, or are only your Hater Mail writers illiterate?

    JAC,

There are a couple reasons many (not all, I know American posters show a complete lack of grammatical skills. First, grammar isn’t tested. Teachers have to teach a certain set of competencies that students are tested on every year. Math is normally tested every year, reading tests after 3rd grade (approximately), and a couple of writing tests that are graded on content and not on grammar. Teachers figure they only have a certain amount of time to teach, so best not waste time going over those things that are not tested (see if a large majority of their students pass the test then they can get a bonus check). A big reason why science skills are also significantly lacking, and we have so many people running around saying that people and dinosaurs co-existed. Most states do not test science concepts, and some students are not even exposed to science until middle school.

Second, we wouldn’t want to harm those fragile self-esteems by telling them they did something wrong. For example, where I teach we are not allowed to grade homework. Not even a completion grade. Why? Because students may not have parents who would make them do their homework, or their parents may not be home when they get home. Personal responsibility is non-existent, and all of your problems are someone else’s fault. Life owes you something. Telling a student that they misplaced a comma could upset this fragile balance. We wouldn’t want that would we?

I am a teacher, and I do what I can (but there is only so much grammar in science class). The parents here have a different idea. You didn’t know that all American children are brilliant? You better catch on! If you come here and imply that you may get sued!

Love the tattoo by the way! Good for you!

    In Peace and Sauciness,
    D&WC

Great tattoo – and especially given it is original and not some carbon copy some one else’s (ie: Barb Wire, Tribal, Skull, Snake etc).

    Stay an individual!!!

Oh I get it! That’s a fake tattoo, right? There is no way one who is wise enough to follow the teachings of the FSM would get that done in anything other than magic markers, surely.

Really, Bargain Booze? That’s funny, as I would have thought that there’s no way one who is wise enough to follow the teachings of the FSM would be so judgmental and priggish, surely.

Magic markers? It is far too awesome a tattoo for such impermanence. If I’d have come up with such a great concept for a tattoo, I’d have one myself.

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
