An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American

Does anyone anctually care what Rachel Maddows says? Who the hell cares… And why do they give everyone a talk-show now-a-days?

@Trevor. Yes, a lot of people care what Rachel Maddow says. Not sure what you interpreted her piece to say, but she was appreciating the joys of FSM and acknowledging it’s purpose. High praise by an extraordinarily intelligent woman, on an influential and important show. (and it’s not a “talk show”)

“The mind is its own place, and in itself, can make a Hell of Heaven and a Heaven of Hell” (Milton)
“Ya can’t argue with a sick mind”. (unknown)
“If ignorance is bliss, I guess they must be in heaven.”
Ok, so that’s not two quotes, it’s three (the last one is mine . . . does that count?). May all be blessed by the noodly appendage of the FSM. (Just in some cases, at high velocity . . . . ?)

@49 Redbeard
“Back in Newton’s day, they figured that his “Law of Gravitation” was the final explanation for all time to the question of why things fall down”
I see…for example…we now know that the FSM might make something fall down…as well as gravity..
=;)

@45 Zeno:
Oh I hear your pain. A most beautiful city, built on many layers of odd belief systems and various gods, with the pope’s pad right in the middle. Not to mention the largest collection of amazing and wonderous art in the smallest country in the world, inside another country which is known for one of the largest collections of amazing and wonderous things … etc etc etc until it all disappears up it’s own fundamental art gallery.
Rome seems to have some sort of magnetic attraction for religious weirdness and artistic beauty. I both envy and pity you at the same time!!!

@ Zeno #45 – February 18th:
It’s true… in Italy the situation is not very bright… especially in Rome where we can’t even take a glass or a bottle outside the pub for a drink after 9pm!!
But are you sure the government tried to impose the teaching of Creationism and ID in Italian schools??? There may have been a motion from “Forz’Italia” or “MSI” or the ‘ol “DC”… but surely it got laughed out of parliament?? I thought Italian schools were allowed to remove the crucifixes from classrooms now?
Oh yes… your prime minister… he thinks he’s the “unto del signore” doesn’t he? “unto dalla melma della corruzione” is more like it!
PS why don’t you join the discussion forums where you can speak italian in the “Languages Other than English section: Mangiatori di Pasta Italiani dove siete?”?

If you don’t mind my saying, having converted some to FSMism, the funny part of pastafarianism is mostly the part that draws new converts to our religion.
Allowing them to make fun of our beliefs is the gate to laughing at their own and eventually adopting pastafarianism. It works best with mildly religious folks of course, but still, these are the easiest targets, and there is a whole lot of them.
Satire is actually, IMHO, the most important part of our religion.

@Half-Wit Nelson (unless it’s a troll):
Science is, in essence, theory.
A theory is the antonym of rigid dogma. That is exactly what makes science so resilient to changes and new ideas.
All scientific theories rely on axioms to build a scientific system. As long as the system is internally consistent, the theory is sound. This applies regardless of whether the axioms later prove wrong.
Unfortunately, creationism is internally inconsistent. This prevents creationism – you may like the expression “intelligent design” better – from even being a “scientific theory” to begin with.

@sam:
Would you like us to count the mega-tonnes of creationism flaws!
