I am at a loss for words

I am at loss for words. Listen, I don’t understand why you people who believe in this “garbage” and at that matter, anyone who does not believe that God is not our savior feel the need to rat christians out for their beliefs. I know a couple of you can respect it, and that’s just fine with me. But many of you just plain rant on us christians, but what have we ever done to you, has god hurt you in any way? God created you, and everything you have, everything you can imagine and you say things like “I hate him” “He’s not real” “That dumb @$$ doesn’t even exist!” Well, could you please respect our opinons. We have done everything possible to reach out to you, and try to invite you to the church of Christ, and you have done nothing but rant us out.

God Bless.

Has god hurt me in any way?

    You could say that.

When I was 6 years old, in first grade, I was attacked by my former friends when they realized I didn’t believe in god. I was an outcast. A freak. I was abandoned by society, in the small world that first graders live in.

    IT WAS A LIVING HELL.

I was called stupid by my classmates and peers. How do you think I felt?

Christianity has brought on some pointless wars, all because people believe, to quote an icon my friend sent me, “…That some cosmic Jewish Zombie can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree. Makes perfect sense.”

So no, Grace, I have not been hurt by god, something that is non-existent, but I have been hurt by his oh-so devoted followers.

Now this is all well and dandy when you do “reach out” and “respect” us

I do want to point out that it was the Christians that hanged and burned witches, did they truly “reach out” for them… i think not

I however am not pagan, know some, but not one. I’m not Christian, know some really good ones that would not do the things that the others do, also know some that should just be put in a loony house because if your not Christian then by God you should be killed. and I’m not what you think when I say that I am Atheist, I DO believe in something, its just I believe that I am a messenger from the divine that needs to set things right in the world and send the message that killing is not the answer, and all people should be given a chance to be happy. even if they don’t believe any thing.

    Anyway I’m out

That right there is what Id call an intelligent idiot. Intelligent enough to spout off plenty of circular logic, yet missing the reality entirely. For someone who claims to be open minded, you are yet another close minded fool, a slave to the beliefs of those who prefer magic to testable, observable science.

While you may be considered “smart” among your peers, Id take a long look around and see what I was being compared to…and bringing your “educated guesses” here is only going to get you served up with some real education. Alas you will be too dense to get it.

I would not blame any of the harms I have witnessed on any GOD, but CHRISTIANS are an entirely different story. I live in Midland, Texas, where one is looked down upon and excluded from community activities for not attending church and for not being a believer who has been saved or born again. My wife and I are under constant pressure to join a church family, but we have enough experience with nutball religions to know that if it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it is probably a KOOL-AID DRINKING CULT. My son is ridiculed at school because he does not attend the totally-hip, Stephen Baldwin-endorsed, rock-n-roll Jesus youth group; fortunately, he has sufficient self-esteem to know that he is just fine, and that his beliefs are just as valid as his peers’, but I shudder to think about those teenagers that are not strong enough to resist these pressures.

I work in social services, and have personally encountered two cases of teen suicide in the last 18 months: both were trying to work out issues with their sexual orientation, and both were shamed by local christian groups who were “doing god’s work.” This is in a small city of about 100,000 people. How many kids (and adults for that matter) across this country are driven to this end over this very issue? How many women stay in abusive marriages, keeping their children and themselves in harm’s way, because christianity frowns on divorce? How many sexually transmitted diseases are spread and unwanted children are born because of the lack of proper sex education in schools, due to the efforts of the christian right and the moral majority? And how many innocents have been raped and molested, not only in the catholic church, but in mainline-protestant and evangelical and charismatic and millennial christian faiths as well?

If jesus christ were a real person, who was the son of god, and he died for all of us so that we may be forgiven of our sins, and he is to return again, I’ll bet he is going to be mighty pissed off. The shit that has been (and continues to be) done in his name is enough to make me ill. It’s hard for me to criticize the beliefs of any individual, if those beliefs help the individual to be a better person who adds something to the fabric of society. But as soon as those beliefs become actions that harm others, a line is crossed that causes me to judge, criticize and want to retaliate…the only thing that keeps me from committing acts of violence against these people is that I am a man of logic and compassion (kind of like christ?), and I know that violence breeds violence, just as ignorance breeds ignorance and stupidity breeds stupidity.

So to all the GOOD CHRISTIANS out there who are so determined to recruit more members into their fanclub through blessings and prayer, KEEP IT TO YOURSELVES and FUCK OFF! Go home and pray for guidance on how not to be such an infringing douchebag…

I would like to say that the all of the contradictions are not contradicting in context, in case anyone reading this believes that. The funny thing about Christian recruiting is that the wackjobs you all talk about are not really christian. They go to church, but continue to sin. (Not that it is possible to be perfect, but they understand and accept their sin which is the point I am trying to make.) Christians have done horrible things, ie: The crusades, but how can anyone who is truly saved by Christ think that this sort of thing is the right path. i am not sure why I am writing this, not really to defend Christians, but more so to defend Christ. This is What I know for a fact:
    -Christ claimed to be God.
-He offered salvation opposed to an eternity in hell.
-He could not have simply been a good teacher, he was either GOd a liar or a mad man.
-When you are saved you are given a brand new heart one with the desire to do things that are pleasing to Gad.
-God does not hate Gays. ( However the bible defines homosexuality as a sin, but The bible says for when we were still sinners God loved us.

If you have a legitiment question feel free to Email me at kookulas@aol.com, but please I have been respectful so I ask you do not send me angry letters.

I would love to know where Elemental (Post 193) got those ideas on atheists? I mean he honestly makes atheists sound like the nut job bible thumbers in the south and midwest (westboro baptist church anyone?) atheists mearly say that they feel there is no god and support that opinion with…well, reason. While religious people (who of course all feel there is a god) overwelming support their opinion with… well… ummm what is it that they use to support their opinion again???

As an atheist, your comments were somewhat offensive. You say “Could you please respect our opinions” and go on to say how you have tried to invite us to the church of christ, yet you try to force your religious opinions on us (ie: “God created you, and everything you have”). My opinion is that God does not exist, therefore did not create me or anything I have. I have as much of a right to my opinion as you do to yours. Please respect other opinions and beliefs if you want your own beliefs respected.

I am at a loss for words. I don’t understand why YOU people feel the need to rant people out for their beliefs because they contradict yous. I know a few (very few) of you actually respect my opinion and me as a person, and thats just fine with me. But most of you just self righteously rant about how you know so much better than we do. You say things like “God hates you” “You’re going to burn in hell” “sinner” “heathen” “spawn of Satan” “Devil Worshipper”, and then you wonder why we resent you. Well, could YOU please respect OUR opinions, which are every bit as valid as yours. You HAVE reached out to me, by telling me that I am wrong and that I am going to Hell. And I have rejected you because, frankly, it doesn’t make the least bit of sense to me, and you have done nothing but rant ME out. So, lets compromise: I’ll respect your beliefs when you come off your high horse and show me the basic respect you deny me, but so adamantly demand for yourself.

“But many of you just plain rant on us christians, but what have we ever done to you, has god hurt you in any way?”

Okay – let’s start at the second chapter of your beloved Bible: Exodus.

Any Egyptians out there, you owe the Christians (and, technically, Jews) a right-old kicking due to the 10 Plagues.

Okay – any decendants of Job here? Oh no, wait, there aren’t. BECAUSE GOD SUPPOSEDLY KILLED JOB’S FAMILY, AND FRIENDS, ALL BECAUSE HE WANTED TO SHOW THE DEVIL THAT HE WAS BETTER!

Right – moving on – any Muslim’s here?

Yer? Well, I believe that for the 200 years of crusades, you owe the Christians quite a large lynching.

Umm – I’ll skip through all the false witch-burnings and so on, and move straight onto WW2. Hitler killed Jews because they were Jews, yet Jews also worship the same God you Christians worship (they just don’t believe in his 30 year old “son” who died and came back to life again). So, technically, that was your God’s fault too.

    That enough examples for you?

This may not get through the “censorship”, but if it does, I hope you will become slightly less ignorant of other people’s beliefs, and choose not to ally yourself with a murdering “God”.

    To Cole, #207,

Seriously? How can you say that “all the contradictions are not contradicting in context”? WHAT CONTEXT?!? A contradiction is a contradiction. Period. A contradiction automatically makes an argument void. So, you cannot use the bible in your argument. Now shall we go over what you “know”?

    - Christ claimed to be god – yes, and claimed would be the key word in that sentence. There is not even proof that he existed. See lack of mention of Jesus or someone who performed miracles in ANY historical document other than the buybull.

    - Salvation, hell, yada… – no, see hell was a concept developed later. Original forms of Christianity did not preach that.

    - Teacher one – yes, or he did not exist at all, which is actually more likely, see the first one. And you did know that prrof cannot be found for the “slaughter of the innocents”, right?

    - I get a brand new heart instead of the one that I have? Does this heart make me act like a bigot to anyone who does not share my beliefs or my moral code? Is this the same heart that starts wars in the name of god? I don’t want it.

    - “Gays”, as you said – well, as I have said before, and will say again, the word homosexual was not invented until the 16th century, so it shouldn’t be in my buybull unless some person after the 16th century did it, meaning that the bible is not the true word of god. Therefore, you have no idea if any of the rest of it (or what parts) are still the “word of god” (if it ever was to begin with, and that is doubtful). And if you want to run to Leviticus, then I hope you haven’t cut your hair or wear mixed fabrics, otherwise you are going to have to be killed. And if you still love sinners, why do you threaten them every time that you speak to them?

You can try to justify the crusades and everything else that has been done in the name of religion, and say that “true believers” wouldn’t do this. Yet these true believers do it all the time. Multiple times, throughout history (in your buybull too). Not just big acts, but little acts too. Like tormenting those who don’t believe in your morals and driving them to mental breakdowns (seen it happen). Again, don’t want it. You have been respectful, minus the ‘what you believe is stupid so believe what I believe because it is way more plausible’… Anyway. We appreciate your thoughts, but no thank you.

    In Peace and Sauciness,
    D&WC

This is a very heated debate.

What amazes me is how not just the christians but seemingly most others seem to accept the existence of this jesus person.

Let’s clear this up once and for all, kids.

There is absolutely no historical evidence of the existence of jesus. None whatsoever. No. Stop it. None.

The Romans were pretty good at keeping records and guess what? Nothing. Nada. Nil. Your godman didn’t even warrant a small ripple in their recorded history. Not a peep was even written about him by his own followers until many decades after all the so-called amazing things he did.

Now you can call me picky but I would’ve thought if some bloke came along, threw a few miracles about and saved mankind then someone would’ve noted this pretty much straight after the event.

The problem with myths is the more they get told the more people think they are facts. A bit like the christians being thrown to the lions thing. That also never happened. No christian was thrown to a lion and if you think they were good luck coming up with any written evidence of this. There isn’t any. It’s about as true as Jack and the Beanstalk.

I have come across a number of “christian” (and no, I will not spell it with a capital “c”) websites that deserve to be removed from the web far more than this site. Just because you foam at the mouth and fall over backwards does not mean you are in the right (apart from right wing that is). I don’t see this website as being any more damaging than perverted websites that tell kids they will go to hell for masturbating, or being gay, or not believing in some bearded git pointing at you from a cloud.

Brian (#216):”Go to the following website and tell me that Yeshua, a.k.a. Jesus, isn’t at least partly made up or copied from elsewhere: http://www.religioustolerance.org/chr_jcpa5b.htm

    That…
    I…
I was a Christian until I read all of that.
    I really really was.
    Believed in Christ everything.
Previous posts can testify to that.
I believed a little different than most Christians mind you, but I did believe in Christ.
    Now…
    I am just a theist.
For reasons that I have explained in places other than this before.

You idiot. You have just condemned your soul to Hell because you believed some “evidence” over the Holy Word.
I pray that God sends you over to a reprobate, that is, useless to the Gospel, mind because that would be the merciful thing for people like you who have rejected Jesus; to make you numb as numb as these dumb atheists that way you won’t feel the guilt of what you have done until that fateful day of judgment.

“”"I don’t understand why you people who believe in this “garbage” and at that matter, anyone who does not believe that God is not our savior feel the need to rat christians out for their beliefs.”"”

I don’t understand why people like you believe the “garbage” that YOU do. Have you ever read the bible WITHOUT your “Bible Glasses” on? If it still makes sense, then you have to respect the Easter bunny, Santa Claus AND FSM… because you are committed to fantasy.

“”"But many of you just plain rant on us christians, but what have we ever done to you, has god hurt you in any way?”"”

Let’s see… what has Christianity ever done? Crusades. Inquisitions. Countless people slaughtered because they didn’t believe in Christ, or weren’t a certain way. Kept man in chains longer than he should have been (GOD LOVES SLAVERY). THE DARK AGES and stifling science for 1000+ years! Racism, bigotry, sexism, homophobia. I can keep going.

We could have been exploring the galaxy by now if it wasn’t for Christianity. Christians today seem content with dragging the rest of us kicking and screaming back to 400 AD! ID, Creationism, TRYING TO TEACH RELIGION AS A SCIENCE IN SCIENCE CLASS!!!!! Blocking medical funding, etc. There are MANY examples of Christians and Christianity “poisoning the well” so to say.

Yes, your God has hurt the whole human race. Intentionally, and methodically.

“”"God created you, and everything you have, everything you can imagine”"”

That’s just a matter of YOUR opinion. Where’s the proof! If no proof, then it is an opinion – and one based in fantasyland.

“”"and you say things like “I hate him” “He’s not real” “That dumb @$$ doesn’t even exist!””"”

After all the horrors committed by his followers – in HIS NAME, you wonder why? Should I draw a picture for you? Besides, he doesn’t exist anyway – he’s just a figment of your collective imaginations.

“”"Well, could you please respect our opinons.”"”

You never respect anyone else’s opinions – so… NO.

“”"We have done everything possible to reach out to you, and try to invite you to the church of Christ, and you have done nothing but rant us out.”"”

OH! Play the innocent victim some more. Go on, get it all out. Feel better now? Good. Yelling, screaming, casting threats of hell, interfering with people’s lives and trying to destroy them, even KILLING PEOPLE – because they don’t accept that the sky god of Jerusalem is real… that is really gonna make people come over to your side.

We already have a church, a church of the FSM. Just to show how retarded religion really is. You deserve being ranted on.

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
