I can’t believe you have spent so much time being sarcastic about how stupid you think faith in God is. People who have faith are not crazy, dillusional, or using religion as a crutch. I’ve heard it all. I don’t understand why people like you make fun of the single concept that believing in God comes down to–love. That’s all it’s really about. Making a mockery of something people feel passionate about is kind of a waste of time. I feel bad that you have gotten yourself so deep into this FSM thing and are surrounded by people who agree with you. Some things don’t have to make sense to you to be true.
I believe in what the Bible offers me because it all has a single underlying message: to be a pure and loving person. Although I’m not always, I want to strive to be…and this makes my life happier.
If you were to see a slideshow of your entire life, would you truly feel pride? Would you see yourself with images of sharing positive and happy emotion with others that isn’t based on making fun of Religion?
Someday you will come to a point where you’ll know the Truth. And you may not believe me now, but I’m just trying to help you…the day that you die, if you find yourself afraid and alone, just call out to Jesus. Just remember this.

No offence but I think you COMPLETELY missed the point of this whole website. No one is saying that God doesn’t exist so much as the idea of teaching creationism in schools is absurd as there is NO CONCRETE EVIDENCE that creationism happened whereas there is concrete evidence of evolution. Teaching that a flying spaghetti monster created the universe is no crazier than teaching the concept of creationism.
And I do believe in God… God loves everyone and doesn’t care whether you worship him/her from a church or from home, whether you read the bible or not, whether you are a Jew, a Muslim, a Buddhist, a Christian, ETC ETC ETC…. What matters is… as YOU said… LOVE.

my personal belief – and no clue why this hasn’t been adopted by christians/whoever (probably because the exact problem with organized religion is that it focuses on outdated texts instead of the core values of the faith) – is that God CREATED or BEGAN the process of evolution. What’s wrong with that…. anyway…..
Definitely want both the FSM decal and a Darwin fish for my car, asap

Hi hi, ho ho,
Dear Carolyn,
It appears you have us pastafarians mixed up with some sort of religion bashing cult. I assure you, we believe in believing in yourself, and following the path that has been set before you. To us, we feel that following the Church of the FSM will lead us to the truth.
We as a Church have faith in Ramen, and I do not call my brothers and sister crazy and dillusional. I love all my brothers and sisters, and we stand up for more than our fellow pastafarians. Did you hear about the peaceful marches against Westboro Baptist Church?
Yours truly,
Dave.

There’s a post-it note on my fridge telling me “to be a pure and loving person”. I feel that this allows me to be as morally sound as a Christian without the inconvenience of having to believe in Jesus.

Let’s just ignore the fact that more lives have been taken in the name of religion than any other (perhaps every other) reason.
.
Do we need religion to be pure and loving people?
.
I hope we have more self respect than that! Homo sapiens have been around for about 250,000 years. We went at least 245,000 of those years without the any of the modern “true” religions. If we actually needed a “god” or “djinns” or any sort of sky daddy to tell us that murder and theft aren’t kosher after all, we wouldn’t have made it to Sinai or anywhere else for that matter.
.
We do not need this foolishness to be good people. It is wishful thinking that unfortunately brings about the baggage that has been the cause of an embarrassingly large amount of human suffering. We have, as humans, earned enough knowledge and self awareness to rid ourselves of these superstitions. Get rid of this masochistic “but we need God to keep from killing each other” garbage. You’re better than that! We’re better than that! If you truly need belief in an invisible, unknowable celestial dictator to keep from being a bad person, I pity you.

I can’t believe you have spent so much time writing a letter about how stupid you think faith in The FLying Spaghetti Monster is. I don’t understand why people like you can’t understand the single concept that believing in the FSM comes down to – Fun. That’s all it’s really about. Making a mockery of something people feel passionate about is a whole lot of fun. I feel bad that you have gotten yourself so deep into this Christianity thing and are surrounded by people who agree with you. Things have to make logical sense to be true.
I believe in what the open letter offers me because it has a single underlying message: to dress as a pirate and drink beer. Although I’m not always doing this, I strive to do so at every opportunity… and this makes my life happier.
Someday you will come to a point where you’ll know the Truth. And you may not believe me now, but I’m just trying to help you…the day that you die, if you find yourself surrounded by ugly strippers and stale beer, just call out to the FSM.

Awww, ain’t that so sweet? “Love, Carolyn [XOXOXOXO]” Jesus loves you Bobby. LOL. She truly sounds like a genuine caring person. However, Carolyn my dear, not everyone needs a savior. Certainly not myself or anyone else around here. I personally take pride in the strength of SELF. To follow in the footsteps of someone else or to adhere to some tenets of some laid out way of life is truly not a way I want to live. You become robotic and directed much like a parent directs a child. “The blind leading the blind?” I care not to put my trust in age-old traditions. Life is all about change baby doll and “GOD” had his time. This is the dawn of a new era of enlightenment and it’s the era of the scientific method. Why concern yourself with something that does not manifest itself or can not be tested?

Hi Carolyn
It is nice to hear from a Christian who can write, spell, and punctuate correctly, and seems to represent the better side of your religion. Look at the “hate mail” to see what sort of person you are keeping company with. You seem to be saying religion is not a crutch, it is a wood or metal pole designed to remove loads from an injured or inadequate leg. Would you still “strive to be a pure and loving person” if you did not believe it would get you a good seat in the choir in the next life? In your case, I think you would.
Parts of your Bible contain messages and sentiments that are far removed from universal love. Just as the Catholic church fought to stop the Bible being translated from Latin in the Middle Ages, and exposing its true contents to general scrutiny, some Christians seem determined to prevent their children hearing about the science of the earth’s, or to dilute it with their own creation story (which is one of thousands from around the world, including our own). This site is not making fun of religion. Our religion is every bit as valid as yours. The fact that you think yours is superior is an indication of the problem with your position, not ours.
I do hope that, unlike most of the “drive-by” critics who post here, you return to this discussion.

Mabye you should stop coming here to tell us that our beliefs (which is just as valid as yours) and stop preaching your religion to other people who do not want to hear it? If your Bible’s message is one of love and tolearance (according to you), can’t you keep your damned opinion to yourself and shut up?

the key to FSM is not to make fun of ppl who read into the bible and get love out of it, it is to show how ridiculous it is to take it literally and to point out the extreme lengths that some groups will go to force their beliefs on others.

Heheh, ain’t that so, hm, Carolyn, ain’t that so ;-)
“I believe in what the Bible offers me because it all has a single underlying message: to be a pure and loving person. Although I’m not always, I want to strive to be…and this makes my life happier.”
I believe you believe that. Do be sure to keep to the gospel of Luke though, and do not make the mistake of ever reading Numbers, Deuteronomy, Leviticus or Revelations.
But all that aside, personally I have read several “Holy Books”. All of them, eventually, have this same underlying message: to be a pure and loving person.
And frankly, sarcasm or not, the Gospel of the Flying Spaghettimonster has twó underlying messages:
1: “Religion is pretty stupid.”
2: “Just be a good and compassionate person, nothing else matters”
Regards and Love (and if you want, an encouraging pat on the back by His Noodly Appendage ;-) )

First things first. I have to thank you for at least not screaming and swearing at us. It’s a refreshing change. Now, onto the next point. You’ve obviously missed the entire reason for our existence. It is to stop this senseless teaching of creation “theory” in science class. The Christian creation “theory”. This should be taught in religion class not science. It’s NOT science. Another thing, all religious beliefs should be given equal time. Every last one of them. It should not be weighted in so heavily a Christian theme.
You said that someday we will come to a point and know the truth. We do know the truth. Religion is a scam put forth purely to control and suck money out of naive and stupid people. You probably haven’t noticed this but out of all the hundreds of religions in the world only your people get offended. Why is that? A little self important perhaps?
If I were to see a slide-show of my life, damn right I would feel proud. I’ve done a lot good things.
I don’t; and I can’t speak for everyone here; think that faith in God is stupid. I think it’s a complete and utter waste of time but whatever floats your boat. What I think is that if you are going to be Christian than do it all of the way. You’ve got homeless people in your town? Then put them in your churches. Tear out the pews and build rooms for them to live in. Give them clothes right out of your closet. You only need so much and you probably have way more than you need. Give it to those in need. There is nothing that offends me more than a sanctimonious wealthy Christian who keeps his money for himself using the utterly shameless excuse, “Jesus wants me to be happy.” What a load of bullshit! Jesus (if you believe in him) doesn’t care one whit if you’re happy. It’s all about how you treat your fellow man. That’s ultimately what pisses me right off about you Christians. You’re selfish. Your religion has warped itself to the point where how you live your live is second to, “Do you have Jesus in your heart?” That’s just sick. I’ve been to a couple of your Evangelical churches and nearly vomited. Apparently you can be a pedophilic rapist and as long as; usually on your deathbed; you take Jesus into your heart you get into heaven. Am I the only one who sees something wrong with this picture? What bout the victims? I can’t see your God liking Cathedrals either. A truckload of money wasted on the so-called glory to him. Guess Christians have never seen mountains. For every suffering hungry person out there is a wealthy Christian hypocrate. Do the right thing. Help those that need it. Every last one. That’s the only way you’ll ever get into Heaven. You’re God isn’t even the slightest bit interested in praise or songs or any other shit that you think he is. Remember the First Testament. He’s be just as happy to set you all on fire and laugh.

Carolyn,

You seem an intelligent person. Therefore you certainly are not serious when you mention the “single concept that believing in God comes down to–love”. If you look into the history of religions (every single religion) you will see that such concept is unsupported. For you the bible has a “single underlying message: to be a pure and loving person”. It would be very good if all those who claim to believe in the bible reached the same conclusion, but you know well that this is not the case. Moreover the bible sends very many contradictory messages and to choose some and ignore the others you need to apply criteria, which is not in the bible.
.
Open your eyes, use your brain, and Someday you will come to a point where you’ll know the Truth. And you may not believe me now, but I’m just trying to help you…A long time before the day that you die, you will no longer need imaginary friends when you find yourself afraid and alone, just call out to real persons. Just remember this.

Love

The Bible is about being a loving person? Someone needs to read more of the Old Testament. More to the point, the main purpose of Pastafarianism is to mock not religion as a whole or even all of Christianity. We are mocking those who try to force their beliefs onto others and into places they don’t belong. We have nothing against people who simply believe and mind their own business. While we hope you will someday see the light, if you don’t bug me about how I’m going to hell, I won’t bug you about how you believe in fairy tales.

You forget how much religion and all its arbitrary precepts has imposed itself into public policy. An understanding of this is essential to understanding why this site is here.
As for love being the way or the goal or both, well, that’s awesome. But I never needed a bible to tell me that.

The Bible doesn’t have a single message. Like most holy books it has the wonderful ability to have whatever message you want. Hate homosexuals? There’s a bible for you. Hate Jews, same bible. Oppress women, same bible. Polygamist, same bible. Love your neighbour, same bible. Thing is most religions have used their doctrines and “holy writs” to get people to go along with whatever worldly plans they have. The Crusades made lots of money for the church. The inquisition and holocaust saw property taken from infidels and given to the faithful. Because of the merging of church and state in the middle east, political disagreements turn into disagreements in religious doctrine leading both sides to believe themselves holier than the other. It’s the mess religion causes.
Love your god all you want. We don’t care as long as it’s kept out of our science classes and government policies. Also, a hypothetical question:
If when you die you find yourself afraid and alone. Calling out so someone who doesn’t answer, will your whole life have been a lie?
Some of us don’t need the threat of hellfire in order to be good people.

No, I don’t think I’ll ever know the ‘truth’ as you say it. Unless you’re right, which I doubt. You see, if I’m right, then at the point I die, I’ll be far too busy being dead to find out the truth. I won’t be around, and so there’s nothing to know. It is a simple dispersal of energy.

“I believe in what the Bible offers me because it all has a single underlying message: to be a pure and loving person.”
That doesn’t sound like the bible, unless it just went through some heavy editing.
“Although I’m not always, I want to strive to be…and this makes my life happier.”
Then why don’t you just strive to be a “pure and loving person”? Why on earth do you need a god to do that? Or a bible for that matter. I’m pretty sure if you truly want to be a “pure and loving person” and it makes your life happier, you could do it in the name of Tickle-me-Elmo with a Radioshack pamphlet.
“the day that you die, if you find yourself afraid and alone, just call out to Jesus.”
Or don’t! Maybe I could call out to Poseidon? I mean he’s the freakin’ god of water! Water! I mean I like the beach and I like the ocean. I like to sit on the shore and look out on the ocean. I like to go boating. I mean Poseidon seems like a better choice to me. I’m pretty sure that when Jesus went fishing he offered some goods to Poseidon so that he could reap from the riches of the ocean, which Poseidon truly governs.

Dear Carolyn: I’m a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight…..
Dr. George G. Ritchie, In Return from Tomorrow, he tells of his out-of-body experience, his meeting with Jesus Christ, and his travel with Christ through different dimensions of time and space. Did he explain why we have not seen his face in over 2000 years? Everybody is waiting for the big party. Remember, Armagedon, Revelations… Did he explain why the Bible is so full of shit.
CULINARY DEPARTMENT
“…Hath he not sent me to the men that sit upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?” –Isaiah 36:12; also in II Kings 18:27.
The lord commanded: “And thou shalt eat it as barley cakes, and thou shalt bake it with dung that cometh out of man, in their sight.” –Ezekiel 4:12.
“And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.” –Levitcus 26:29.
“And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons, and of thy daughters which the LORD thy god hath given thee…” –Deuteronomy 28:53.
“So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son.” –2 Kings 6:29.
No wonder Jesus does not have any time to come and save the world. He is a time traveler through different dimensions in space. WOW, you mean like Star Wars. That fits perfectly with the Jesus soap opera.

Chapter 6
“Do you want one or two meatballs?” he yelled from the kitchen, hoping his voice would carry to the bedroom. “Two!” Came the reply.
He carefully spooned the spaghetti into two bowls, placed two meatballs on top of each helping, sprinkled real grated Parmesian cheese (some things must be genuine), hit each with a spray of sweat flakes and headed back to the bedroom, one bowl in each hand with Ralphie, his 5 year old Golden Retriever following closely behind.
Pirate Girl was on the bed, wearing a long t shirt that said “Lazy Little Bitch” on the front of it, nothing more. He handed her the bowl of spaghetti and managed to get on the bed with his own bowl. Ralphie, jumped up on the bed, wagging his tail and easing his way toward the spaghetti. A gentle nudge with a bare foot kept him at a distance. “You’ll get yours in a bit, once we get busy, Ralphie” Pirate Girl laughed and started in on the spaghetti, a perfect Friday night snack. Her real name was Eileen. Eileen Thomkins, and he, met her in a coffee shop on a street outside Belmont University in Nashville, on the night when the second Bahamma-McFeign presidential debate was taking place. She was wearing a shirt with a scull-and-crossbones on it, and was right in front of him in line so he started calling her “pirate girl“, and harassing her about her attire. She was forty-two years old, with long blond hair, iridescent blue eyes with large black pupils, flawless skin, a model’s body, and could have passed for twenty-five even in a well lit room. She was a MILF even if she never had children, and Nigel Henderson, a fifty -something financial analyst was hooked at first sight. He kept up the banter, put his arm around her, kept putting his hand on her shoulder, telling her he was wiping “Parrot poop” off her shoulder. She smiled, knowing how lame it was, but deciding it was worth going along with anyway. The click must have been audible from across the room because her girl friend looked up and smiled with her warmest “I’m not gonnna cock block” expression
The rest was history, as they say, she went home with him, and they became “significant others” in the last few months.
“What’s on?”
“Barry Ling, he interviewing these guy who say the Rapture Christians are actually being kidnapped by space aliens to be used as sex slaves”
“Well, you know those flying saucers are nothing but bordellos with gyroscopes”
“Anyway, why are all the people who watch these shows diabetic men with erectile difficulties who need to check their credit report?”
“ Yahoo, YaWoodra! I dunno, why do all the women on the channels you watch need to reconsider their birth control method and look into spray -on personal lubricants?”
“Touche.”
“Anything new and newsworthy?
“Not really, Nigel what do you think’s gonna happen? Some people say it’s the second coming?”
“Ever read ‘Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God.’ by Jonothan Edwards?”
“Not really, wasn’t he the vampire on ‘Dark Shadows?”
“No, that was a different Jonothan Edwards. This one said that Jesus was coming at the end of the world,
And he was gonna punish everyone who wasn’t going to heaven. He said Jesus would be this 900 foot
Tall, pissed-off, merciless sob who would trample everyone underfoot. “
“So he would be Jesus Kong?”
“Or, maybe, Christzilla.”
She laughed and leaned herself against him, “Christzilla, oh, that’s hilarious”
“But, I don’t think being stomped to death by Jesus would be the worst, know what really gives me nightmares?”
“What? “ She was still giggling.
“Getting impaled on one of his toenails. Think about it, he probably hasn’t had a pedicure in 2000 years, those things gotta be nasty? And you wouldn’t die right away, he’d keep picking ’em up and putting ’em down, and taking you along for the ride. And their would probably be others impaled on the same nail with you, it’s be like a kabob.”
They were finished with the spaghetti, laughing she said “Isn’t it about time for Ralphie to get some spaghetti in the Kitchen?”

You don’t seem like a complete twit, so go on you for finding something that makes you happy. The point is, that your religion looks just as stupid to others as ours does to you.
The basic message of all (most) religions isn’t bad. Compassion, justice, the basics of right and wrong are not bad principles. It’s the people you describe, those that are crazy, delusional, and use religion as a crutch that are the problem. Those that follow blindly because they were told to, or raised that way. They never sit down and think for themselves. Or, the hypocrites who only act proper for an hour or two on Sunday, but call themselves religious all week.

Hrrrmmm…. which bible are you reading again? From what I have read of the bible, I thought the underlying message was kill anyone who doesn’t do what you say, when you say. If someone doesn’t believe what you want them to believe, make their life (and afterlife) hell.

You say that you are not using your religion as a crutch and yet at the end of your message you also say
‘…the day that you die, if you find yourself afraid and alone, just call out to Jesus.’
Sounds to me like you are afraid of death and that because your religion offers an afterlife it means that you don’t need to be. If that is not a ‘crutch’ I don’t know what is.
Sorry I couldn’t be more sarcastic. For once, that was quite a nicely written little plea.

I just came across this website, though I was already aware of the theory after its initial presentation in 2005. It is sad to see the confusion people have about this. It is not so much a mockery of religion (e.g. Christianity), but of the blurred lines between church and state. One of the great freedoms we enjoy in this country is freedom of religion. While it is the belief of many Christians, I personally do not agree we need shove our beliefs down the throats of the youth through a state sponsored educational system. If we don’t like it, send your kids to a Christian school. Perhaps teach your children at home the different perspectives and theories, further allowing them to think critically and look at situations from different angles.
This is a mockery of faith – it’s a mockery of the system. If we stand up and cheer for our democracy, pressing to spread it through out the world, then we sure better be able to back it up at home and allow people the freedoms which we supposedly hold so high.
Just because we don’t agree with people on their faith doesn’t negate their right to believe it.

Have they crucified the FSM?? Will He finally rise again and show them his divine power and make them finally believe and see the light of his ineffable divinity and delicious noodliness!
I “await moderation” in a state of cosmic anxiety and dread, but the hope of His triumph still pervades my trembling soul…..
Let us pray (I know I’m repeating myself, but that’s what prayers are all about, aint it?):
Our monster so great who art in the plate
Hallowed be thy scrummy yummy juicy sauces
Thy kingdom come, some day, but not too late:
Before we move onto our second courses!
Give us this day our daily pasta
And forgive us if we sometimes overcook it
As we forgive them who eat it much faster
(The important thing is not to overlook it!)
And lead us not into false consummation
Of dire dodgy dishes: nasty noodles or Ramen
For thine is the source of the saucy sensation
Forever and ever, spaghetti monster amen!

Like any other pastafarian, I’m all for joy and happiness – so it doesn’t bother me at all (nor would it bother many other pastafarians) if it makes you feel happy and content to beleive in whatever religion you beleive in (I’m guessing christianity). However it isn’t right of you to come to the home website of pastafarianism; the home website of a peaceful, friendly religion, and then ask as all to question whether our lives have been unhappy and filled with regret and bad emotions because of the “FSM thing” we believe in.
The concluding point of your post was another example of the ‘You’re wrong, I’m right’ statement. Although your way of saying it isn’t as capitalised, incorrectly spelt and swear word abundant as other hate-mailers’ approach, it still shows what you have in common with all the hate-mailers who aren’t as consirned with ‘love’ as you are: you assume that what you believe in must be right simply because you believe in it, you think that anyone else who thinks different to you is wrong and silly, and then you either try to convert them or you get angry at them or you ignore/dismiss anything they have to say.
p.s. No, I’m not going to “check out George G, Ritchie’s Return From Tomorrow”… Whatever that is.

“I believe in what the Bible offers me because it all has a single underlying message: to be a pure and loving person. Although I’m not always, I want to strive to be…and this makes my life happier.”
Hey, that’s funny… Iremember a nice guy named Joshua in the bible. I believe it had something to do with genocide…
“If you were to see a slideshow of your entire life, would you truly feel pride? Would you see yourself with images of sharing positive and happy emotion with others that isn’t based on making fun of Religion?”
I would be very proud to see a slideshow of my life. Funnily enough, it’s not only religious people who are good…
Someday you will come to a point where you’ll know the Truth. And you may not believe me now, but I’m just trying to help you…the day that you die, if you find yourself afraid and alone, just call out to the Flying Spagghetti monster. Just remember this.
