More evidence of the pirates – temperature relationship

The evidence for the relationship between pirates and global temperature continues to mount.

CNN reports, “The International Maritime Bureau, which tracks piracy, said in its annual report earlier this year that global pirate attacks rose by 10 percent in 2007, marking the first increase in three years. ”

cnn1.png

Then, BBC News reports “Global Temperatures to decrease“.

The mainstream media may ignore the pirate-temperature link that Pastafarians have long known, but soon the evidence will be so overwhelming that they cannot ignore the Truth.

Further evidence: Google Trends shows a very solid relationship.

That screenshot is remarkable and 100% legit – not doctored. You can try it yourself here.

Congrats to Pastafarians Oliver and Adrian for spotting the CNN/BBC evidence.

Being the skeptic that I am, I had to check it out. CONFIRMED! This is incontrovertible evidence of the connection.

I feel I should expand a bit on this story.

Now, I am a humble man. All I own and all I have and ever will accomplish I owe to the benevolence of the FSM. I am not attempting to take credit, merely to enlighten.

Increased piracy leads to climate stabilization, but what caused the increased piracy?

In a dramatic move, the UN IPCC has begun a global piracy campaign to combat global warming. We should all do our part and steal a vessel of some sort, no matter how small. I guess what I’m trying to say is, go grab someone else’s dinghy and save the planet.

I didn’t need this evidence in order to BELIEVE.

I already knew that the number of pirates affect the global warming. It is said so in the RED book, therefore it is true.

This is a conumdrum. Did the increase in piracy cause global warming to stop, or did the stop of global warming cause there to be more pirates?

Al Gore won a Nobel Prize for talking about global warming. However, at the same time the last 5 years has seen the Pirates of the Caribbean series haul in over $700 million and has spiked a huge increase in pirate-clad people. So I ask you – who’s going to be right and who’s going to end up looking like an idiot in the fullness of time? When global temperatures start falling again because of the work of one man, the hero everyone will praise WON’T be Al Gore – it will be one John Christopher Depp II.

Has anyone else spotted that the graph used is simple showing what people search for? So, as more people search for pirates, less people search for global warming.

So in the end, this graph proves nothing – though it is fun.
And relying on those news stories as evidence is like trying to say that Ben Croshaw had something to do with the Princess Diana conspiracy…

    @Gabe
No. That is not how this works at all.
Just as the noodly appendage skews the results of carbon dating, it clearly has the intention of invalidating this graph to skeptics like you. However, in displaying unyielding faith for the FSM, I take this to be all the empirical evidence necessary to propagate the related beliefs. The mere fact that is exists is proof. In a couple thousand years or so, the age of this hard evidence will cement Him into if not above the ranks of other deities, Christian, Hindu, Muslim, and so forth.
As I am staunch in my beliefs, I think your time would be better spent working on your Diana conspiracy theories rather than pointing out inconsistencies of a future inarguable reference.

@marsupialninja (nice name, by the way)

I think you’re taking this far too seriously. I may be wrong, but at this point in time this is the only evidence I’ve seen toward any possibility of people searching for a relationship between global warming and pirates.

Don’t get me wrong, I like pirates (not as much as I like ninjas, but there you go), but I don’t think they have anything to do with the current global climate.
Certainly, I don’t think most pirates know they’re meant to have something to do with the current global climate. Is it possible be involved in something like that accidentally?

In fact, I’ve just noticed this: Whoever wrote this post has conveniently chopped of the bottom half of the graph, the half that disproves the theory entirely.

See, the graph you see in the post above is showing you search trends; that is, as more people search for “pirates” on Google, less people are searching for “Global warming”. All this proves is that there’s a definite link between how much people care about pirates and how much people care about global warming.

Though interesting, the graph does nothing toward proving this theory.

The link below shows the “news reference volume”, which is how many times each item showed up in a news story somewhere on the Internet.

    http://img254.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture1px3.png

I think you’ll find that there is no correlation between the two other than their being on the same graph. Look at it.

In the end, then, this post proves nothing, only serving to make me suspicious as to other supposed “facts” that this website is spreading…

what is also clear is that Wall Street has a particular disdain for pirates! As can be seen here, not only does global warming decrease with incresing pirate mass, but retail sales drop!

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did.
