Willamette Live - Amen to that

Willamette Live has just published an interesting article about our church. An excerpt:

Move over Intelligent Designers, the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is vying for attention in our public school classrooms.

Existing in secrecy for hundreds of years, the church received mainstream attention with the publication of an open letter to the Kansas School Board in May 2005 when it considered whether to allow the teaching of Intelligent Design in its public schools. In recent years, many Christians have pushed for the teaching of Intelligent Design alongside evolutionary theory in science courses. Intelligent Design is reputed to be based on science and is the theory that the world is so complex it must have been created by an intelligent being.

Originally from Oregon but now living in Arizona, Bobby Henderson, a 26-year-old with a physics degree and no job, wrote and posted the letter online on behalf of Pastafarians, those who believe that the Flying Spaghetti Monster is that intelligent being.

Here’s the article.

I thought they got wiped out during the zombie outbreak. Good thing they didn’t, so they could spread the word!

Ah, the article leaves dark hints of fund-raisers for missionary ships. Do you realize that this very same tactic has been exploited before? As a resident of the Kingdom of Hawaii, a subjugated mid-pacific island nation under US control, I have seen the devastation caused by ship-bound missionaries. These so-called missionaries brought mosquitoes and diseases, as well as the possessive concept of private property, with subdivisions (I refer to the Great Mahela of 1848, the first subdivision of this idyllic area) strip malls, and “convenience” stores. True pirates do not hold fund-raisers and bake-sales, har har. Turn Back!!!! Use Your Noodle!!!!

    Hey,
nothing nice to say, your right, pastafarians should pillage on the pacific ocean controlling trade between Asia and the U.S. and Hawaii will be our port of call, we will liberate the Hawaiians and then they could have a thriving economy supporting our pillaging followers! May his noodlyness bless you all, beer and strippers for all!

    *Sigh*

When will you all understand that pirates never “raped” or “pillaged” anything? They were wonderful, funloving people who gave toys to small children. Like Santa, except with peglegs and eyepatches.

we cant liberate the hawaiians there are better off living topless with coconut bras and grass skirts, dont try astraila they are just a bunch of disendents of convivcts if we go to japan there is no point of trying. we must try to convert the cubans and then bust all of the terroist out of gowantonmo bay. and if the fsm lets us sacrifice them im open. we just need him to speak to the town reatared and then we are all clear. Canada is just north of the U.S. The FSM knows this, having created everything.

Purchase the Gospel

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
