I don’t understand why you all hate God. Why don’t you believe He exists? I read in an earlier message that the Bible is filled with historical errors. Actually, it is very historically accurate. Christianity has been around since the beginning of time – it just didn’t have the name Christianity. The belief in God was the very first religion, until man sinned.

People that believe in religion are facing many controversies that they can only explain as faith. With this development of faith came the down fall of mankind because people lose sight of reality in the basis of faith.
If you consider what is happening today you would realize that what we are going though is a restructuring of what we call beliefs. Back in the day when we didn’t have physics and calculus, once you realize that these people were nothing more than nomads surviving on the land, they needed a reason to justify why they were experiencing so much pain.
With this so far you may have already stopped reading because I am defending the belief of FSM. Yes I would like to say that there is something out there, how can you be sure that this God that you speak of is not a giant ball of spaghetti with eyes and its tentically goodness.
I would like you to look at a good friend of mine. He was busted for speeding in California a year and a half ago. You may have heard the stories on the news, well what you didn’t hear about was all that happened to him. So I will give me a quick recap.
He was driving his car and got into a high speed chase.
He was having a manic episode because of all the stress that was occurring with relocating and going to Grad School at UCSB Materials Department (top 3 in the US when he applied). What happened is he got kicked out of school because he was trying to patent a program before he got into school because you are not allowed to patent while in Grad school. With that he felt stressed and needed a relief. Instead of going into a school and shooting people or doing something to hurt himself he went for a drive. After seeing a cop he cut him off and went through Money-cito and continued on through Santa Barbara and Goleta. After initially getting in the chase he called the police and stated that he was having a manic episode and just wanted to go 140 mph.
After a long discussion he hung up and drove fast whenever there wasn’t any cars around on the road. Well turns out a Goleta cop was trying to be a hero and save the day by spike stripping his car and not only endangering him but also all the cops on the road following and anyone that might be in the area when the tires blew. He had told them his address and told them all the information they needed to get him if he tried to really run away.
Long story short, he got a ticket for Wreckless driving and driving in excess of 100 mph. Got his car back a few days later and went on to get a decent engineering job. However, he was branded as a virus on the US society (aka Bi-Polar) and now has the joy of taking anti-anxiety drugs (such as Valium) and others and has his civil rights violated by not allowing him to own a hand gun for a minimum of 5 years.
The point of all this is that people do not like to be confronted with a problem and instead of dealing with the problem they retire in their comforts of the mind with religion and state that what they do can be justified as long as they are doing it for the greater good.
So the question I have for you is this, who decides what the greater good is? I would think it would be a majority rule type of thing seeing as we are no longer in the stone age and with internet and communications as they are we could easily vote on situations as a world, not just countries. That would eliminate the power of the few (presidents and world leaders) and that is why you will never hear anything like that ever happening.
Power corrupts, Absolute power corrupts absolutely. – Baron Acton (1834–1902)
And I will leave you with this question, What am I doing to leave the world better than I found it?
Ignorance is no longer an excuse for stupidity.
Thanks

I don’t hate God anymore than Thor, Anirniit, or Ra. I don’t believe He exists for the same reasons you don’t believe that Thor, Anirniit, or Ra exist – no evidence for their existance, their teachings don’t make sense, they were stupid back then, their holy books contain inaccuracies, the stories are too fantanstic, their teachings conflicted with each other, they formed different sects, etc. — take your pick.
.
But… I do have an issue with those who run around killing people in the name of Thor, those who want me to live by the laws of Anirniit, or who think my children should be taught in the science classroom that the fusion doesn’t happen in the sun because Ra says so. I have the same issue for those running around and doing the same in the name of the latest incarnation — God, Alah, Jesus, etc.
.
If you think that the Bible is historically accurate you obviously need to read a bit more.
.
However, you did get something right — Christianity has has been around since the beginning of time (i.e. human history) and it just wasn’t called Christianity. If we can call those who never heard of Jesus, who didn’t believe in him, and yet believed in a supreme being as worshipping “Christianity”, then the ancient Inuit called it Sedna (the master of sea animals); the Myans, Bitol (the sky god); the Sumarians, An (the god of heaven); the Chinese, Fengshen Yanyi (supreme lawgiver); and ten thousand other names. All are different names for the belief in something which doesn’t exist.
.
But you can take comfort. Just like billions of people who never heard of Jesus and died centuries or millenia before his death can be said to be believing in “Christianity”, in a few centuries I’m sure the vast majority of the world will conclude that everyone before them (include you) were actually worshipping the Flying Spaghetti Monster, but just that you were mistaken in calling him God, or Zeus, or Uenuku, etc. – even though most of them had never even heard of the FSM. We know how easy it was for polytheists to mistakenly conclude that each of his appendices were actually different gods as they performed different tasks simultaneously.

Christianity only became CHRISTianity after Christ. If this is your logical thinking then I have no surprise that you are religious. But remember, some of us Pustafarians were once like you, but we were touched, you will be too.

I do love gods when they are expression of the highest feelings a person can experience. At the same time, I do hate gods when they are puppets created and used by come classes to rule and exploit other classes.
I am religious (not Christian) because I need it (I think that the human need to have some “answers” creates religions, and religions create the gods we know -and those we still don’t know :P), but I believe that the Flying Spaghetti Monster, even if it is a parody, is a good God, created for a very good reason. I will remember Him in my prayers, thanking Him for having created such an intelligent prophet (or viceversa ;) ) and for having created a lot of other good people.

P.s: by the way Mohammed was not a God…he was a prophet. And Jesus was a prophet too.

I don’t hate god. How can I hate something that is merely abstract to me. A fairy-tale that someone whipped out, and later somehow managed to become a religion, I don’t hate that. In fact, it’s quite hilarious to me. Tell you what I do hate… the people… the religious people… people who are ignorant enough to define a god, and then worship one? Ignorance. Ignorance. Ignorance. You are either afraid of dying, have no knowledge of science or brainwashed from a young age. Why do you people get so angry when atheists ridicule you. I am a pastafarian, you can’t touch me, because the moment you start doubting my fucking crazy-arse wack beliefs… you become a fucking hypocrite. Yeah…

something most people don’t realize is that christians hate thinking for themselves, if you read genesis is says that adam and eve ate from the tree of KNOWLEDGE and that when they ate from it the realized they were naked indicating they were self-aware the defenition (or something like that) of sentience.

The Guy that thinks the Bible was just a long winded hobby -
Feb 28th, 2008
I’ve asked this of more people heavily involved in their church than I can remember, but I’ll ask again since you seem to be so certain the bible is “historically accurate”. How do you know that? Because somebody told you so? Because your pastor, priest or whatever he may be is so convincing? You forget that he’s telling you what you are paying him on a weekly basis to tell you – that God loves you and for your continued faith [read cash] you will go to Heaven? How does he know that? Because someone told him, and that someone was told by someone else – that’s how. So what makes it true? How can you be so certain that some guy just didn’t have an idea for a great story, and then went through with writing it? Sure the book has some historical references in it that may be true, but the writer of the book could of easily just referenced those things to make the story more easily believed/viewed by his peers. I’m not saying what you believe is wrong, you are welcome to believe in anything you want just as I and everyone else that posts on here can. What I’m saying is that you have no basis to sit there waving “your” bible in the air saying it is right and everything else is wrong, when you don’t have anymore proof that the bible is a true and accurate account [other than the word of someone that is paid to tell you that] than I do that it is not. But, the difference is I will not preach to everyone that they are wrong and I am right, the way you do so gracefully. Like I said earlier, I’ve asked the same “story” question to many people – and none of them could proof that what I thought was wrong. And ya know what? Most of them agreed with me… if they can’t show solid proof they have no basis to say I am 100% wrong or look down at me because I see things in a different light.
To each their own – those four words sum up what every religion should be used as. Don’t preach your beliefs to me when mine may be just as accurate as your own, because when it comes down to it religion is just that…. a belief!

Apparently, you’ve forgotten about that time of persecution you Christains faced when your religion was first created…you know, when you were fed to lions by the Romans and made to worship in the catacombs?? That’s why you bury your dead underground…and what about the Egyptians who were around WAY before any of you had ever thought of inventing this “God”…the reason Chistianity is the plague that it is is b/c of the desperate need of humans with little to no intelligence to find a sense of reason when things they couldn’t explain happened…scary shit like a total lunar eclipse was easily explained as an act of God…
Why is it that in a day and society where science is so crucial and has been proven to be a vital element in modern civilization, do we still feel that religion is necessary. We are truly limiting our growth and evolution as well as exacting an extrodinary toll on our children by subjecting them to this thought-killing parasite…if organized religion were as right as it and it’s supports think it is, science would have been left out in the trash like the fetus of your pastors teenage daughter a long time ago…

Cog… Have you ever tasted spaghetti? Its made from flour and water. Both ingredients pre-date whatever form of Christianity you claim existed before Christianity. Clearly that presents a much stronger argument for spaghetti as the original God. Of course the existence of sun-dried tomatoes and basil present a problem.

I do not hate god, for hate is a strong word. Moreover, I detest modern day christians for their absolute laziness and laying claim to being a part of a religion when they don’t even follow a quarter of the “laws” that were written in that mistake of a piece of literature you call the holy bible. Furthermore, because of your aforementioned claim, you try to prevent the learning of sensible, fact-based programs in our public school systems (mostly because you know that your “faith” is not strong enough to withstand said learning). Not only that, in a country with laws protecting religious freedom, speech , and various other rights, you hate and persecute and bible beat the people that are not of the same religion, background, tax bracket, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or country as you. Also, in this country that also has laws AGAINST church and state relations, you are always trying to make laws based on what your christian bible says, put the laws of your religion on our public buildings or parks, and add your say to our pledge of allegience. I won’t even pledge my allegiance to this country, because it is over-run with “christians” that are arrogant, self-centered, insensitive, over-imposing and most of all, full of shit.

I just want to say to mc666 that Buddha, at least the Indian Buddha, was not a god in the typical sense of the word. He was just a man who wanted to know all aspects of the earth, and world and humanity, and felt his life complete only after he experienced all that life encompasses, and reached a state of nirvana, absolute happiness, and being at one with the universe. If he had known of the flying spaghetti monster, Buddha would have been an exemplary Pastafarian.
I am not a Buddhist, Christian, Jew, Muslim, nor affiliated to any other religion excepting Pastafarianism. But I would like to say that I have made a moderately informed decision, having read about many of the world religions, when I decided I was atheist, prior to my Pastafarian discovery. Do not bash others for their ignorance, when you posses it in equivalence.

Show some tact, intelligence, and originality, Treehugger.
It’s just as “woefully ignorant” to try and combat biblical literalism with biblical literalism. Further more, the scriptures weren’t written for primitive men to control other primitive men, they were written to pass along current events of the time, culturally relevent information, rally cries of protest, social commentary, uplifting messages to the poor and oppressed, and advice on both moral and hygienic living. While the reason they were authored in the forms of parables, songs, poems, and metaphors is 1) They were living in a time when liberties we cherish such as “free speech” weren’t available. 2) They were taught through simple tales so the message were easier to remember during a time when little to no education was provided to common citizens of that era.
Further more, copying and pasting information from a website is the tactic of a wikillectual wannabe who’s trying to validate themselves by piggybacking off the research, writing, and concepts of far more intelligent men.
While the concretion of your fraudulency the disdain and epithetical use of the information you plagiarized. If you knew anything at all, then you would know that the use of trite insults and name calling only validates everything that Christian Fundamentalists have been taught. Thus you’re either a complete fraud or if you already knew that, then you’re just some pseudo-nobody who has to validate their existence by pointlessly attacking another person for their beliefs, which puts you in the same boat of the Christians you’re trying to attack.
Grow up, read a book, and conceive of an original thought for once, instead of recycling arbitrary thrift shop opinions.

Alright then, I take it a lot of people have different ideas about this topic. A lot of you have said that the believers in the FSM will go to hell and whatnot, this and that, whatever.
What truly amazes me and downright dumbfounds me is that no one seems to have realized the true purpose of this website. It’s not to promote an actual flying spaghetti monster as god, nor is it here to debate whether god exists or not. It is here to bring up the topic of teaching theories of existence in schools.
The whole reason that the mascot is a Flying pile of pasta is not to denounce Christian, Muslim, Jewish, catholic, or any other god. It’s to declare simply that if the Christian theory of how we came to exist is going to be taught in our childrens schools along side with evolution(which we can prove, God we cannot. you go to school to learn the facts,) Then what is so absurd about the FSM?
If there are going to be teachings of what some might call silly and unbelievable, god for instance, then it is technically on the same level as the FSM.
No proof for God, No proof for FSM, Facts, proof, AND pure logic to back up evolution.
I’m not saying that evolution is right, I’m simply stating that if i was on a school board, and It was up to me to teach children the facts and show them the proof on this particular subject, I would.
The point once again is simply to state that if God is going to be taught in schools, then the FSM should be too.
Now There is a very fine line between debating a topic, and ruining one’s moral credibility. Don’t ruin it for yourself, think before you reply.

Christianity was not the very first religion. Over 500 years before the birth of Christ (and well before the Bible was written), Buddha was born through virgin birth. Also, in Buddhism there is the Three Body doctrine, the dharmakaya as the absolute truth or buddha nature, the sambhogakaya as the symbolization of a particular buddha-nature quality, and nirmanakaya as the flesh and blood manifestation of buddha nature. Sounds very familiar to the Holy Trinity and the birth of Jesus does it not? Let us not forget that Osiris in ancient Egyptian beliefs died and was resurrected, long before Jesus was. Also, historians have uncovered that Jesus’ birth was actually in the spring, not in the winter. However, his supposed birth coincides with the pagan winter solstice celebration. Christianity has been worked to stamp out other religions and make its belief the sole one. Please step out of your box and read and think for yourself, instead of just always buying what is being fed to you on Sundays. I don’t hate God, I hate organized religion and all its stands for. It a body designed to oppress free will and thought, and doesn’t exist for the good of people it is supposedly serving, but for the good of itself.

Well, you are sort of right henderob. Belief in “God” was the first religion, kind of by definiton…but to which god? Early religions that pre-date Christianity worshipped many gods, more than one at a time in most cases. It’s man’s nature to attempt to explain things he doesn’t understand as being a product of the divine, and this is universal, the Judeo-Christian belief system is just another chapter in that progression. Your statement that the bible is historically accurate despite the many plot holes also is a little iffy. I speak as one who taught religious education for 6 years.

Dear COG,
This is probably the first ‘hate mail’ I have read where the writer has actually had the most basic grip on the English language. Congradulations! You actually have some intelligence.
I do not hate God! Do not make that assumption. I love God actually, but probably not the one to which you refer.
The Bible is far from historically accurate. I will not go into detail on the many, many ways it is wrong since it seems that many people have already done so. It has countless errors – well you can probably count them but I’ve never tried – that if you were able to think for yourself and you were not brainwashed you could see for yourself.
Pagan religions were the first existing religions, they were around for a very long time before Christianity was created by men. Open a history book, or look it up online. Christianity was NOT the first religion.
So in conclusion, I don’t hate God, I just follow a different one than you… the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

henderob, whats not to hate about god?
1) controlling w/ iron fist.
2) if he doesn’t control you, his lackeys try to (Christians)
3) Christianity is a freaking joke.
I was raised in the religion for 16 years. and have left out of it for about 4-5 years now. I personally am glad I did. the Christians are so argumentative and assertive w/ their own points that it get’s ridiculous to try to even reason with them. and most of the time they just give you the standard garbage, that is based on a book that they can’t even prove the validation of. After all that was said and done..I was done with them.
At least with the FSM you can have some reasonably good argument as to say what you believe, and it is interesting none the less.

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American

Yeah…

“[the Flying Spaghetti Monster is] just as believable as a bearded guy who walks in to egypt because a burning bush told him to free his people, splits an ocean in two, the procedes to walk through the desert for 40 years eating magic bread, before hitting a rock with a stick causing water to spray out and then getting hit by lighting…Yeah.”
