I don’t understand why you all hate God

I don’t understand why you all hate God. Why don’t you believe He exists? I read in an earlier message that the Bible is filled with historical errors. Actually, it is very historically accurate. Christianity has been around since the beginning of time - it just didn’t have the name Christianity. The belief in God was the very first religion, until man sinned.

    We don’t “hate God.” First off, we believe that our government never wanted to be controlled by a church…ANY CHURCH. This nation might have been founded “under God,” but the government cannot establish an official religion for a reason. That reason was to prevent “holy wars” and to prevent the government from shutting down any other religion.

    People who scream about church and state being separate are right. You can continue to scream the other part of the amendment about “nor prohibiting the free exercise thereof,” but that exists just to keep the government from actively shutting you down just because you and/or your religion don’t agree with what the government is doing.

    I personally would want to move out of this country if an official religion were declared by the government, because it sends a clear message that anyone who doesn’t agree with that religion (or a subset, like Catholicism) just aren’t welcome. In other words, stop trying to force your view of religion down my throat.

    Darkcitymedia, I have just one comment to a comment you made:
    “This site is centered around the constitutional amendments & US citizens right to not have their children subjected to religious ideology that they don’t practice or believe.”

    Why is it that evolutionism, which is just a theory, mind you, and has not been proven as of yet, can be taught as fact, but the idea of intelligent design cannot be taught at all? You say that this is a constitutional right, but what about the constitutional rights of Christians, and other religions that also believe in a god-figure that created the world (Judaism and Islam just to name a few)? We have the right to send our children to public schools, we pay taxes after all, so I believe that we do have the right to ask that both ideas be taught equally. Since neither idea can be proven scientifically, both ideas should be taught as theories and children and parents should be given the right to believe what they want to believe. I feel as though those that do not believe in God are pushing their ideas on me and my children and my constitutional rights are being infringed upon. This country was founded on the idea that people have the right to worship how they want to, or not at all if they should so choose. I understand the idea of separation of church and state, but in all actuality, the reason the pilgrims came over was because the government was telling the church what to believe (sound familiar?).

    Do you mean the beginning of time or the beginning of “time”. And as for the bible it’s just a book, a book that has been rewritten and corrupted to fit the beliefs of the time period many times.

    Greg: I can’t speak for the original poster, but I haven’t seen anyone arguing for church control of the government. And none of us that have been debating recently are arguing for ID in schools.

    personally, i think that jesus was a guy that went around preaching all his life. then he died because people didn’t like him. his followers wrote some stuff about him… and suddenly it escalated…

    he was a real man. he wasn’t the son of god.

    FSM worship was invented for the purpose of stopping intelligent design being taught in schools. obviously you saw the banner at the top of the page and thought “they’re making fun of god!!!”

    and what do you mean, “until man sinned.” as in, sin created other religions?

    Christianity has not been around since the beginning of time. Read your history books.

    Why don’t we believe in god? Duh, maybe because there is not one single shred of evidence anywhere on earth that any omnipotent being exists now or existed in the past. And now that we have been into space we can see that nobody lives there - at least in our neighborhood.

    Considering the state of this planet with it’s wars, crime and pollution, it seems to me to be the height of egotism to claim that we are the smartest things in the universe. Anything smarter would look, indeed, like a god to a humble human. Remember Clarke’s Law: “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” I hope those words aren’t too long for you.

    Organized religion, in my opinion, is a cover for men (rarely women) who are looking for money, power and fame. Jimmy Swaggart, Jim Bakker, Oral Roberts, Pat Robertson, shall I name some more men who use their religion to live like kings and think themselves above the law? How about science fiction writers who make up religions for their own use like L Ron Hubbard?

    You believe that a man who was executed for inciting a riot 2000 years ago will return from the dead and take you to heaven while torturing those who are left on earth, and you think I’m crazy? Gimme a break.

    Personally I hate god because he only made me with one nostril.

    Don’t believe in God? I guess usually when one capitalizes it, one means the Abrahamic god, but we Pastafarians do believe in the creator. How else can we expect to be touched by his noodly appendage?

    How can you hate something that doesn’t exist? I don’t hate god in the same way that I don’t hate the tooth fairy. The bible is full of flaws and that brings us to the next point. Christianity has not been around since the dawn of time, it started around 2000 years ago and was a creation of man who had only been around for a few 10,000’s of years. Time started around 15 billion years before that which is a preaty big error in the good book.

    actually, it pisses me off how you assume you know what was around at the begining of time, Id hate to see how warped your mind is in reality, because it would probably scare me. one of the reasons why the world is in so much crap is because we have people carping on like you thinking there have a god given knowledge of the truth!

  13. 273 James Mar 22nd, 2008 at 7:14 pm

    @just me,
    Yeah, you got to the point of the website, you cannot prove god dosn’t exist. Because the supernatural is not science and shouldn’t be taught in schools as science (intelligent design). Because it is wrong for people to impose their faith, on the public who is protected under establishment clause.

    @Darkcitymedia,
    Uhh, I can prove that pasta existed, it’s all over the place. Yeah… so we have Italian resurant menus, so if pasta exists, then that means that FSM exists. Just like the idea that if Jesus existed then he must be the son of god and god must exist. Yeah, so we do have evidence, indirectly, through pasta to the existence of flying pasta. Take pasta in a foodfight, or on a plane. It’s just like Christians saying Bible more of a metaphore and it shouldn’t be taken seriously. I have nothing wrong with that. But we can also make metaphors.

  15. 275 James Mar 22nd, 2008 at 7:25 pm

    @Darkcitymedia,
    Yeah, so we are using our celestial entity to impose our morals, or the i really rather you didn’ts. I like those better so that is how I chose my religion. Based on the morals in conveys, any gaps, I can fill in myself because people don’t actually need religion for moral guidence, society dose that well enough. And even though society is also influenced by religion, there are also laws! Which can be a great thing to form your character around. (At least you can change laws to what is reasonable and still disagree with some of them, with religion, if you follow the bible literally, your a rather fucked up person). DCM, sorry if these arguments pissed u off, there are probably many flaws in my arguments. So don’t take me or religion literally, or at least make religons fit your needs.

    Who said anything about hating god??? If you read the book, which you obviously didn’t, you would know that pastafarianism is accepting of all religions. We do believe he exists, and he’s in the form of pasta. If you know anything about the bible you would know that almost everything in it was passed down from person to person for hundreds of years. It has to do with faith, we are not saying we are anymore right than you are. There are hundreds of religions, what makes yours more right than anyone else’s?

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
