Google Trends says we’re neck and neck with Intelligent Design. I had no idea it was this close.

I searched for Pastafarian when I found the word somewhere, so if you count those searches…or Pastafarianism (that’s a word, right?)…

probably not just that website… most major news papers and websites share stories, and even if its not the exact same words, they often get topics from each other so this (and a pile of similar clones of that article) probably caused the bump… anyway, its a great screenie and it wont take much to pull ahead :D

Just think what could be accomplished with a little promotion. The xians have the Moron Museum in Petersburg, KY. Maybe we should work out a deal with the Olive Garden.

There is another clear alternative idea on the source of life, clearly as respectable as creationism and Pastafarianism. I speak, of course, of Incompetent Design, or ID. We can see the marks of an Incompetent Designer everywhere, but we need go no farther than our own bodies and the myriad engineering flaws within. The knees can be permanently blown out with relatively little force if applied at the proper sides, a blow to the jaw can shock the central nervous system and induce unconsciousness, the collar bone is remarkably weak and can become strained through overwork or easily damaged with a good blow, a hit to the back of the head can easily kill someone, and any doctor or fighter can show you the vast array of pressure points in the human body. Asides these irresponsible back doors in the human frame, there are many inherent design flaws, such as waste disposal sharing sexual organs, leading to risk of yeast infection and urinary tract infections, and breathing and eating sharing the pharynx, leading to risk of choking and asphyxiation.

Any software designers who left such glaring flaws in the design of a major product would never work in industry again, and any software testers who let such glaring breaks in the code pass through them would lose their jobs. Clearly, the designer of life must be a bumbling simpleton, worthy of scorn and derision, for leaving such mistakes that seem suggestive of gradual, unsupervised adaptation to the environment of living creatures, accepting changes that are not necessarily optimal but merely workable. Clearly, our Incompetent Designer has not produced good work, and deserves no praise or worship.

A bumbling simpleton, worthy of scorn and derision? Are you suggesting that George W is our creator?

re Prophet of an Alternate Model
He is not Incompetent! He was just a little drunk at the time.

Yeah He might have been quite wasted indeed… nerve endings in teeth and teeth that don’t regenerate!! What a totally stupid idea that was!
I’m thinking though, have you ever played a video game and tried to get a low score on purpose? Let your character on the screen get beat up by the enemy just to show that little bastard what life is like?
Well maybe that’s what he did…

Actually, considering the fact that many here might also search for ID to keep up on what’s going on (and probably far fewer instances of the Disco/UD crowd searching for us), those numbers can be seen as even more positive than they appear.

OT, is there any chance we could have a ‘Preview’ button for the comments? It would be nice to check to see if my tags are correct before the comment is submitted.

Purchase the Gospel

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
