Statue resemblance

buddhist.jpg

I took this picture in Thailand a few days ago. Does anyone else thing there is a resemblance between this statue and the FSM? With the many arms, etc. Also, another similarity: both Pastafarianism and Buddhism are peaceful religions. And.. there were a lot of pirates in this area years ago. Coincidences?

Is this gold on my very first comment post?
Truly I have been touched by His Noodly Appendage!

    Silver or bronze?

Silver, great. Now for the pic: Buddhist statue? I thought Shiva was the one with the many arms????

It’s like a religious swiss army knife.

The little spot in the centre of the statue’s forehead is more Hinduish than Buddhistishish…

Also about the size of the bigger Swiss army knives, the ones that don’t fit in any trousers’ pocket!

I believe the statue is Durga(sp?), a hindu goddess

Not a coincidence! Before the FSM revealed his Noodly Form to our Prophet Bobby, people who were touched by His Noodly Appendages were left to interpret the holy experience as best they could. Which is why we see Him in such varied forms. Clearly the artist had a full belly of noodles.

The artist, one Arthur Lzheimer, kept forgetting that he already had put the arms…

    .
Wikipedia says: “Durga is depicted as a warrior woman with 10 arms who rides a lion or a tiger, carries weapons and assumes mudras, or symbolic hand gestures. This form of the Goddess is the embodiment of feminine and creative energy (Shakti)”
    .
Our goddess here has about twice as much arms!

Coincidence? Methinks not! The two arms at the top could even be mistaken for His eye stalks!

Can someone be that drunk or stoned?

Does look like FSM. But it also reminds me of a spider. And that’s creepy….

  17. 17 St. Jason Nov 18th, 2007 at 11:32 pm

Spidergetti? That may just be the Lord of the Underworld (where the beer is Macrobrewed, and the strippers much less attractive) *makes squiggily FSM sign over breast*

    is that buddhist, or hindu?

  19. 19 lilwench Nov 18th, 2007 at 11:39 pm

We know Him by ingesting His delicious goodness. He is normally drunk and acting oddly. Ergo, if we ingest Him, we get drunk and act oddly. Drunkeness by proxy?

Another FSM influence, this time in road design:

Purchase the Gospel

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
