Statue resemblance

buddhist.jpg

I took this picture in Thailand a few days ago. Does anyone else thing there is a resemblance between this statue and the FSM? With the many arms, etc. Also, another similarity: both Pastafarianism and Buddhism are peaceful religions. And.. there were a lot of pirates in this area years ago. Coincidences?

The little spot in the centre of the statue’s forehead is more Hinduish than Buddhistishish…

  8. 8 lilwench Nov 18th, 2007 at 10:52 pm

Not a coincidence! Before the FSM revealed his Noodly Form to our Prophet Bobby, people who were touched by His Noodly Appendages were left to interpret the holy experience as best they could. Which is why we see Him in such varied forms. Clearly the artist had a full belly of noodles.

The waters near Thailand STILL have a large population of pirates (2nd only to the Horn of Africa), except they really don’t dress in traditional garb. Perhaps this accounts for the relative peace in Thailand?

Of course, it could also be that the Thais, besides peaceful Buddhists, are pretty serious bad-asses. It’s the only nation in the area that was never colonized or conquered, and they are famous throughout history for having “big smiles and long knives”.

I think the satire is funny. The thought that this whole planet could result from a collision of matter, that is also unexplained, is a rather large bsm. I guess I’ll just use my faith to expalin the lack of transitional species.

  50. 50 Jennyanydots Nov 19th, 2007 at 6:03 pm

Visited a couple of years back when I first heard a reference, then prompted to come back out of frustration towards the end of September after meeting an archaeology student of all things who didn’t believe in evolution when I was on site this summer, in combination with reading the latest Christopher Brookmyre book shortly after I got back, in which he has a go at ‘psychics’. The two elements together pushed me to read Richard Dawkins and start lurking here for a couiple of weeks before joining in.

  51. 51 Jennyanydots Nov 19th, 2007 at 6:09 pm

And, while I’m here - @ Jeff - the lack of transitional species is actually a result of zoologists’ use of taxonomy. They have to make a decision on what to call something, and put them into broad groups with most of the same qualities. Therefore everthing that shares a sufficient degree of zebraness is identified as a zebra, rather than 50 separate species. In the same way, if you really wanted to look for transitional species, you could argue that people without wisdom teeth make up a transitional group between everybody with, and nobody with - they’re a current transitional group.

Welcome to the church of the FSM.
Astronomers see planets at various stages of formation in many places in the galaxy. Their formation is pretty well understood. Are you not mixing up ‘unexplained’ with ‘unexplained as far as I bothered to immerse myself in the area’? Ditto for the ‘lack of transitional fossils’.

Yes, it is not a coincidence. I had not planned to reveal this until nearer the winter solstice, but I think that now all things should be revealed.

I had a vision earlier this year of a holy man who would reveal with golden tablets his divine virgin birth and the fact that he is god’s son on earth, or should I say, the son of the FSM.

    Here’s his website, http://www.indiadivine.org/audarya/devi-mandir/61484-meditation-divine-weapons-18-armed-goddess.html

Oh, and he also sells precious and most holy religious icons and medicines… for a price.

Hi Pacific Pam and Wench Nickee!

I am afraid that PB has got his head stuck even further up his ass than ever!

He has been trying to say that Quantum mechanics invalidates evolution and science in general! and coming off with other gems like Judge Jones at Dover did not say that ID is not science *even* when I showed him what Judge Jones actually said-he still repeats it! I have been fascinated by his cognitive dissonance in the sense how can he continually tell lies in the cause of preaching the truth of the Bible!
I never get an answer to that one!

Dutch Pasta Guy has been great as PB cannot say to him one of his favourite canards “you are speaking about areas that are outside of your expertise”.

One strange side effect of debating people like PB is that my own knowledge increases I have found out that Quantum mechanics is the the refuge of a lot of whacko’s and not only creationists but new agers and what not as so few people understand it!

    Thanks for the rum!

Check it out if you get bored. Plenty of classic, frothing at the mouth, “cdesign proponentsists” verbal diarrhoea. I reckon you’d love it. I haven’t really jumped in there much yet….just put in a toe in here and there. ;) Been enjoying sitting back watching the IDiots weave their own nooses.
Probably will soon though…missing out on too much of the fun.
    Cheers

    HI Wench Nikkiee,

Had a look at the link and comments and it’s the same old damn fallacies again and again-do they not know that telling lies for Jesus is still telling lies!

If your good self(or indeed anyone else) have any time it would be good to see you on Will and Testament to help refute the guff spouted by PB

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/ni/2007/09/the_evolution_of_a_debate_at_s_1.html

He has actually started to stalk me on the net! he found out (well I did tell him) that sometimes I post on the TalkOrigins usenet and poor old PB got very upset at the “SNIDE COMMENTS” that posted about his remarks!

Liked the link to the stunning likeness of PB-it made me :-)

@ Wench Nikkiee - I wandered over - by way of your hyperlink - to the site, and perused the article. At the top, this guy indicates: “No Intelligence Allowed”.
    .
For my money, it ought to read: “No Intelligence” - full stop.

    Yep :)

“do they not know that telling lies for Jesus is still telling lies!”
Apparently not…hahahaha…makes their arguments about the morality coming via the bible more than a little hypocritical and fake!

I might have some time pop over closer to the weekend :) Groan! :p

    .
Doesn’t surprise me :) He got all paranoid about me having imaginary friends last xmas on the TSLoT threads. Of course we were already onto him and left a bit of bait lying around :p
    Hahahahahahaha..

    .
Yep I agree! Have you seen this..
    .
    Sternberg peer review controversy
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sternberg_peer_review_controversy
    .
“Critics describe Sternberg’s explanation of events, that a pro-intelligent design paper just happened to find its way to a publication with a sympathetic editor ultimately responsible for ensuring proper peer review and editing of his last issue, and that he decided it was appropriate to deal with the review process in person on a subject in which he has a personal interest, as improbable and that “people who want us to believe that the publication process outlined [by Sternberg and his defenders] was transparent and only had to do with science” are “disingenuous.”[14] “
    .
I believe the movie places a fair bit of weight on that as support for their take on the “big science conspiracy”
Hehehehe….pretty obvious who the conspirators were. Just goes to show, once again, the level of deceitfull manipulation the Discovery ID salesmen will sink to in an effort to sell their snake oil ID propaganda!

Thing is that the sheeple are really lapping it all up, or more like gulping it all down! They simply thrive on delusional paranoia…after all the bible says Gods children would be…. blah blah blah….doesn’t it!

    @Nikkiee
“after all the bible says Gods children would be…. blah blah blah….doesn’t it!”
    .
And of course all those christians know that THEY are gods children and have it right, and all the others are wrong. Just like all the others think of them. And none of them are worried by that.

    @Nikkiee
DD has now declared himself in love with peabrain too on the BBC blog! He is shamelessly trying to steal him away from me :(!! See posts around #209 of the bbc link above.

  109. 109 Wench.Nikkiee Nov 30th, 2007 at 1:02 pm

Had a quick peek just before your posts and saw those. :))) If you can’t manage to keep him DPG, what can I say….
    .
I’m wondering if PB might be getting some of his ideas from Expelled.
His query “Incidentally, can you show how evolution can be falsified? If not, why is it a science theory?”
was just very recently discussed there as well. Then again they all read the same garbage at AiG and the Disco Institution then just blindly repeat.
    .
I’m enjoying expelled as there are so many different posters there and the cdesign proponentsists do tend to move on (i.e. quickly change the subject to another well worn fallacy) when they are outed. Some good posters supporting evolution there too :))
    .
PB just goes round and round and round in the same circle! I had to double check the dates on the BBC blog coz I thought they may have been his posts from months and months ago. Seriously..groooaaaaan!!

    .
Yep! I think the blog moderator is getting tired of him too. He allows me and DD to say just about anything to him. And then my sweet peabrain gets upset about ad hominems. Oh well.
    .
ps: how’s Skype doing, any chance of a small chat (we could invite Sylvia etc too) this weekend?

  111. 111 Wench.Nikkiee Nov 30th, 2007 at 1:28 pm

    Stop nagging! :p
I’ll get onto it :) Must go eat now so I’ll catch up soon.

Ok, enjoy your (I would imagine pasta?) dinner :)

  113. 113 Red DutchPasta Wench Nov 30th, 2007 at 1:47 pm

DPG: way to go :) What an IDiot that PB, lying, cheating etc etc. He is in clear violation of his own religions commandments, he’ll go straight to hell. Fun to read though how he keeps accusing you and DD of lying, being dishonest (when you are not) and then turns arounds and does it himself. Enjoy :))

  114. 114 ☠DutchPastaGuy☠ Nov 30th, 2007 at 1:50 pm

    @RDPW
Thanks, I don’t think you would have read the last of it yet. As Nikkiee said, peabrain goes round and round and round. Although he was seriously embarressed when I pretended to be his boy friend last time. Now he has two ’suitors’ fighting over him. Hehehehe.

Purchase the Gospel

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
