Woman Gets 8 months for Hate Note

The New York Times reports:

A woman who sent her Arab-American boss a threatening note that warned ”Remember 9/11” and ”You and your kids will pay” was sentenced Wednesday to eight months in a federal halfway house.

Kia Reid, who described herself as Christian, donned gloves to craft the note from magazine clippings and then left it in Nina Timani’s office, prosecutors said.

I’m surprised by the harsh sentence, but maybe this will curb some of the hate speech we see. You can read the full article here.

8 months is a bit harsh!

  2. 2 Reasonable Avatar Oct 24th, 2007 at 11:34 pm

It isn’t that bad considering the content of the letter.

    She threatened the boss’s children!

Still the hate brigades do seem to be getting more and more out of hand. Her sentence has no doubt been given to set an example. Let’s see Pastor Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church taken to task over constant instigation and dissemination of hate and threats.!

How sad that people cannot just stay calm and discuss with people.
    .
And is it me or are we about the only religion that doesn’t want others to die?

Plenty of other religions do instill hatred. Although I wouldn’t expect the average Buddist monk to go on crusade to slaughter the infidels.

Well I think it’s shocking! Who would have thought a Christian capable of sending such hatful things to a fellow human being?
Do you think she’s linked to the dreaded Society of L? She could have an I on us right now!

True, they just mix up a batch of Sarin and cook the commuters on the Tokyo underground :D

(OK - so not *exactly* Buddhist Monks but they shared a similar philosophy)

you make me think, how about being able to choose the pope and the dalai lama for the next mortal combat?

Sorry, I have no idea how you spell dallay Llama. Or however you spell it

    Dhalai Llama I think

What would their death moves be? Would they try to stab each other with their hats’?
    .
Jesus would be a good character. All his special moves would heal his opponent, his counter would be turning the other cheek and for a death move he crucifies himself for his opponents sins.

    “Uhhhhmmmm………..well…………..actually………..”
    .
Yeah, I know. Somewhat tenuous but I’ve been quiet for a while and was feeling ignored :D
    .
The Aum Shinrikyo cult did hold some core Buddhist ideals. It’s a terrible example of how a peaceful philosophy can turn into “Gas the Heretic”.
    .
I’m sure that kind of thing has happened before…

Isn’t a llama that woolly mammal down there (or up there) in Peru? No, ILEIH’s first version was right, nothing to change about it!

Most people don’t consider Buddhism a religion, so they’re out of competition anyway…

I don’t think the Dalai Lahma wears a hat. Maybe we sould send him one as part of our hat mail campaign!

Purchase the Gospel

An elaborate spoof on Intelligent Design, The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is neither too elaborate nor too spoofy to succeed in nailing the fallacies of ID. It's even wackier than Jonathan Swift's suggestion that the Irish eat their children as a way to keep them from being a burden, and it may offend just as many people, but Henderson, described elsewhere as a 25-year-old "out-of-work physics major," puts satire to the same serious use that Swift did. Oh, yes, it is very funny. -- Scientific American
