That is so cool! Awesome!
Hey…that looks like His Noodely himself, trying to show himself to the world. It’s a pasta miracle of sorts.
Ah, I get the bronze medal! And congratulations to Aristotle and Iron Bess on getting gold and silver, respectively!
.
The FSM hanging out in downtown Seattle! Cool! Bet he went there to get some good coffee. I like the photo — good job.
Wonderful pic! Looks like the Noodely One is getting around.
perfect pic. looks like the FSM is on tour. too bad he won’t come to fredricksbrg
nice pic mate,
and so sayethed some unknown prophet of the FSM

oops wrong quote its the other way around en’t it?
arrgh, rum makes it hard to concentrate
6th is what i wanted anyway, the FSM works in truely mysterious ways, i wonder if the building is full of midgets
This statement is confusing to me “Looks like the Noodely One is getting around.” Is not the Noodely One omnipresent, as well as omniscient?
OK! - now that was well done! Nice one Markus.
@Dianimal - The Noodely One is omnipresent, but does not become visable all the time. The Noodely One seems to pick his exposures, as it were.
Almost beer and stripper time!
I hope you are all just acting…because if you really believe this onsense…*sigh*

why is this in the latest addition section?
it’s been on the site for over a year! :s
just extra exposure?
Well, that reflection is proof that the great noodly FSM is not a vampire!
Nice photo.
Wait. Zankou. Acting? Nonsense? I think for talk like that, His Noodlyness will deprive you of the privelige of entering the stripper factory.
Sacrilege, Zankou! Pastafarianism is our LIFE! The FSM is without a doubt the Creator of the Entire Universe! Any suggestions to the contrary will result in walking of the plank… and a frying pan duel afterwards!
Oh. Wow. I have been mispelling “Stereotypical” my whole life. I feel completely stupid. Sorry all.
Hahahahaha…Seattle, home base of the Discovery Institution IDiots.
Very fitting the FSM should materialise there :)
To Stereotypical Evironmentalist… stick an “n” into “Environmentalist” and you’ll be perfect!! 100% absolute perfection!!
Too bad its not a sandwich or you could auction it!

Avast, me ‘earty!
Shoot, forgot to leave a space between your part and mine…i like the forums better…
Cutlass, frying pan, wet spaghetti noodle… name your weapon, Zankou! No one on this site gets away with a holier-than-thou attitude! Dawn, sharp!!!
Along with figuring out how to spell your name Mr. Environmentalist, try to grab one or two alternatives about what is really causing global warming. It is NOT carbon emissions. It’s that great big freakin star sitting on our door step! Geesh it just pisses me off when every damn person on the planet buys into the media scam and blathers on about mankind causing global warming. We aren’t doing it…just like we didn’t cause the glaciers. Go to Friends of Science…read, do research, read about how Mars is warming up. Oh, is that because we sent a couple of Mars landers there? No, it’s the sun….
course, we aren’t exactly helping….
Black Stash, you gotta chill a little. Go grab some grog and kick back.
@ Beth:
You’re picking a fight with the wrong being, wench…
Swords…Dawn…bring a coffin.
@ black stash:
Yeah, the sun is causing it…coupled with the fact that the amount of carbon in our atmosphere is holding the sun’s heat in…
Nope so sorry, the ocean gives off more than we could ever hope to. The next major contributor down the food chain are the vulcanoes. People are at the bottom of the barrel giving off enough to make no diff at all. The whole global warming thing is a political/economic swindle. We have to take all that money we are uselessly spending on global warming and start doing some serious work to protect and preserve our environment. Gotta go drink grog and eat carbs, a hungry pirate makes a crabby pirate.
@ Black Stash - I’m going to earn some wrath for saying this (wait, I’m also “Oh yeah try it Bastard! woman” so maybe not! Hee hee) but I’ve read an article about how global warming caused by humanity is a scam and the whole thing is based on crap for proof…it’s very convincing. I love the idea of doing something productive to protect the environment - we do *not* own this beautiful planet and we *must* do better!
.
Folks I did not just say that I think we should drive SUV’s and not give a damn about carbon emissions…we are killing the planet for real and we should be talking about that much more seriously.
.
And I wear my Jolly Roger bikini at every opportunity so I’m doing my wenchly part to reduce global warming! :)))
.
@ Zankou - we do love duels around here! We’ve had rather a lot…and are quite experienced!
That is so excellent, I’m all about Jolly Roger bikinis. I am now using biofuel in the pirate mobile and recycling the hell out of everything. The little woman pirate is building a new roof for the solar panels and has set up a some kind of gadget to catch the wind, so we are running 85% off the grid. The kid majored in some kind of biology and is doing wierd experiments in the back yard. She says that if all things go the way she has them planned we will be eating between 70 - 75% of all our very own home grown crops. Hows that for environmentalism?
@ Black Stash - RAmen to you and your wench!!! My hubby has wanted a windmill for ages and ages…but since he lives by the philosophy that “anything worth doing is worth overdoing” the one he wants costs $10,000! Home grown crops are so much better for you! Hubby grew up as the youngest of 9 on a farm with home-grown cows and a one-acre vegetable garden. He became a computer geek so he wouldn’t have to work that hard outside (he likes good climate control!) but we both recognize the importance of self-suffiency.
.
I gave one of my jolly roger bikinis to one of my teen-aged riding students. It was too small for me (I did trial and error on ordering!) and I see no reason not to teach her how to be a sexy wench early in life! I actually went from Rowdy Wench to Rowdier Wench (by becoming the “Empress of Thong”) to Rowdiest Wench by having me and my student wash and wax my truck in our bikinis and taking photos…all in the valiant attempt to combat global warming! :))))
Out for now…maybe can check back but not sure…catch you all later!
She is a truly Rowdy Wench, our Rowdiest is… :)))
If you want to know why we are the ones responsible for the majority of the CO2 increase see here;
http://www.realclimate.org/index.php?p=87
As using isotopic analysis of atmospheric CO2 it is possible to calculate the proportions that come from different sources. As well as analysing over time using, for example, tree rings and coral, to extend the analysis into the past.
As to volcanoes, while individual volcanic eruptions can have an effect on the climate, this is more usually one of cooling rather than warming due to the quantities of SO2 produced compared to the amount of CO2. There are exceptions to this such as the Laki, Iceland volcano in 1783-1784, but they are the exceptions rather than the norm. The average annual volcanic release of carbon is about 0.15 Gt/year of carbon, compared to about 7 Gt/year of human related sources, i.e. volcanoes are about a 50th of human sources.
There is plenty of useful information covering such aspects, as well as answers to the claim about of the suns effect, on the site linked to above.
@ IJB - Please do not think that I think that humans aren’t a nuisance and a huge problem! I really do think we are ruining an excellent planet. I just want the truth to be known…not what is politically advantageous to the morons in charge. Thanks for the info!
.
@ WB - I do my best to live up to my name! :)))
Wench Beth: Thank you so much! I feel like I must have been either blind or stupid to not notice! How does this stuff escape me?
Ok Black Stash,
Just to get a few things straight- No, I’m not some idiot who buys into media crap. I actually took a course on environmental studies (though I admit it stupid of me to mispell it). Another thing. It’s not media crap. There is truth behind it. Have you ever heard of the Keeling curve? Do you even know who Keeling is? Well, in case you don’t know, Keeling did a study on the fluctuations of CO2 levels in the atmosphere in correlation with global mean temperature. Strangely, they were the same… Now, I know what you’re thinking. Who says that it’s our fault? Possibly it could be that never before in global history (traced back from records such as CO2 in ice samplings) have global temperatures been so high. I think I see why you might think I’m just some sheep following the media - it’s that whole Al Gore thing, and frankly, I’ve seen his film, An Inconvenient Truth, and found it quite terrible and inaccurate. He seems to think that melting glaciers are the main cause of sea level rise. They are, in fact, not. It is that water expands as it heats up. True, ice is less dense than water, but as the molecules of water gain more kinetic energy, they spread further apart as they move faster. In any case though, heating the planet only exacerbates things. Adding CO2 to the planet heats it. Us burning fossil fuels emits CO2 (along with many air pollutants which aren’t very good for us anyway).
Oh, and Black Stash,
If you knew anything about CO2 emissions, you would know that the reason the ocean gives off CO2 is because as it heats up, CO2 becomes less soluble in it, therefore, any dissolved is released into the air, heating the earth more. It’s a positive feedback loop. I’m not trying to be rude or anything, by the way. I just feel rather insulted at your rash judgements. If this topic really compels you and you wish to learn more, take a course or even do a bit more research first.
Wow some really interesting great posts around here today :) Great to see :))))
.
To John Phillips…. Hi by the way haven’t seen you around for a while…you should drop in more often :) & Stereotypical Environmentalist.
You guys would be familiar with results of temperature monitoring in the immediate period after 911 when air traffic was grounded? I read the report at the time and also listened to a few discussions that people, more familiar with this area, (I’m pretty ignorant of the concepts myself) were having about it at the time. Vague on the details now, was very interested at the time though.
Oh, I know that aerosols, which are released by planes, I believe, into the air do have a cooling effect. However, they are also air pollutants. Ultimately, if we wanted to stop global warming but didn’t care about our health, we would release massive amouts of aerosols into the air. Another useless method of which I have always been fond is removing the entire Ozone layer, because Ozone is actually a heat trapping gas.
The point I got from the discussion was just how much of an effect emissions can really have. I’m more Molec bio/Botany so as i said not really my area. I know the fundies always go on about “scam” though. Like JW will get their religion taught as science and they’ll support him that global warming isn’t a problem. Least that’s what I’ve garnered from the pseudo science discussions I’ve witnessed. Head in sand Ostrich theory!

Hey I just came from a religious chat room…it was fun…it was like poking a stick in a hornets nest. I was blocked after a half hour though. Shows that they don’t like people to ask questions about their contradictions in the bible. I was amazing to see adults trying to impress with vague and strange answers to direct questions.
I asked a question about two uncles. One story goes, an uncle will get a lot of money if his nephew dies. He goes over to the house finds the nephew alone in the tub. Holds the kids head under water until he dies.
The second story goes, the other uncle goes over to his nephew’s house and sees the boy slip and fall, hitting his head and falling into the water. He pauses…then lets the boy die.
Who is the worst of the two?
Uncle one is a willful murderer. Uncle two stands by and does nothing, but doesn’t actually cause the death, he just doesn’t do anything about it.
They did not get the point.
Then I asked, what is the difference between uncle two and god? God stands around doing his nails while all kinds of murder, rape and torture goes on and does nothing.
Someone said I was evil. Oh but it does my black heathen heart good.
Yes you all are.
Sorry Environmental guy I shouldn’t have brought it up…I know how the zealots are about these issues but there is no proof that CO2 is the main driver of global warming. As measured in ice cores dated over many thousands of years, CO2 levels move up and down AFTER the temperature has done so, and thus are the RESULT OF, NOT THE CAUSE of warming. Geological field work in recent sediments confirms this causal relationship. There is solid evidence that, as temperatures move up and down naturally and cyclically through solar radiation, orbital and galactic influences, the warming surface layers of the earth’s oceans expel more CO2 as a result.
There is probably no issue as misunderstood as Global Warming in the world. It is common these days to paint CO2 as a pollutant and all kinds of classes teach this these days. Much to my shame, I too taught it in some of my classes. CO2 is a naturally occuring gas in the air.
The media jumps on the story and runs with it, predicting catastrophe and scaring the bejesus out of everyone. It sure wouldn’t be much fun to tell everyone it’s gonna get a little warmer for awhile. You are also painted with the heresy brush if you dare to question the norm. That by the way goes against all of the ethics that us scientists work under. You have a theory…throw it to the wolves, if it comes back all chewed up and covered in spit, well maybe you should work harder on it. So when did it become okay to dis the non believer…especially when the non believer is basing their new theories on new (which by the way is old information) that calls bull to the Global Warming Scandal. Many scientists who actually participated and are quoted by the IPCC are flocking away in droves as they see that the theories are economic and politically motivated. Those people who dare to speak out against it are tarred and feathered.
By the way the anthropogenic emissions are only about 3% of the natural carbon cycle and less than 1% of the atmospheric reservoir of CO2 of 750 GT. The natural fluxtuations are so great that it is extremely difficult, even for the experts, to follow and predict that at this time it impossible to quantify the effects of man made CO2 released into the atmosphere. But there are a great many out there who doubt that it is even a factor.
So…just about done here…spend your time, money and efforts where they will really help. Recycle, reuse and reduce. That will help the planet so much more than chasing a comet…there ends my speech.

“Sure I’ve read an almost identical piece (i.e. same except for some of intro) somewhere else just recently!”
.
At IPoG maybe?
@Black Stash
Interesting post just there. I don’t know too much about the machanisms of how CO2 is supposed to cause global warming. But I did spot a couple of serious errors in your post there.
.
“As measured in ice cores dated over many thousands of years, CO2 levels move up and down AFTER the temperature has done so, and thus are the RESULT OF, NOT THE CAUSE of warming.”
.
The first bit is definately not what happened the last few hundred years. Gas bubbles from ice cores show that the CO2 level have been between 180-360 ppm for almost an eternity. Then they started rising from the beginning of the 19th century, with the onset of the industrial revolution. The rising global temperature didn’t start before that, but only in the 20th century. So the rise in temperature came after the rise in CO2 levels.
Maybe your statement is true for natural fluctuations in the CO2 level in the past, I don’t know about that well enough. But currently the CO2 level is racing toward 500 ppm, almost one and a half time more than it has been during any natural fluctuation in the past. And the order of events (warming coming after CO2 rise during the last two centuries) very much contradicts what you say.
“Many scientists who actually participated and are quoted by the IPCC are flocking away in droves as they see that the theories are economic and politically motivated.”
.
Now this is where your post really loses credibilty. The economic motives for not wanting to hear about global warming are clear. Just check out the website of the Competitive Entreprise Institute for instance, a ‘pro-CO2 emission’ thinktank that runs tv adds with phrases like “CO2 is the source of life on our planet. It helps plants grow.” Their website is at
http://www.cei.org/
Their home page features such catchy phrases as “Advancing liberty - from the economy of ecology”
Are those sounding the alarm on global warming or the media overhyping it? If they are then they’re certainly not as guilty of making propaganda as those who say all is fine. And holding up those few scientists who dissent does sound all too familiar to Answers in Genesis holding up their 186 dentists etc. in support of their story. Sure, you’ll always find some people with PhDs to sign up to something. That doesn’t prove much.
“By the way the anthropogenic emissions are only about 3% of the natural carbon cycle and less than 1% of the atmospheric reservoir of CO2 of 750 GT. The natural fluxtuations are so great that it is extremely difficult, even for the experts, to follow and predict that at this time it impossible to quantify the effects of man made CO2 released into the atmosphere. But there are a great many out there who doubt that it is even a factor.”
.
Absolute utter bull crap. CO2 levels throughout previous ages are well know as they easy to obtain from gas bubbles trapped in ice cores. Saying that we don’t know how strong our own influnce is is BS. We’ve increased CO2 levels to almost double what it was on average up to just a few centuries ago.
.
“So…just about done here…spend your time, money and efforts where they will really help. Recycle, reuse and reduce. ”
.
Well I’ll agree to that! Apart from the rising CO2 levels, oil and other resources are not infinite. So even it you don’t think CO2 is causing trouble it’s still a good thing to be economical with resources. No complaints there.
Btw, I’ll repeat that I know little about the science of how CO2 causes global warming (I do know the wide consensus of the scintific community on it). But that’s not the reason for rejecting most of your post. Just from what I do know about CO2 levels in the past I can see most of what you posted is BS. That does lend credibility to Wench Nikkiees suspicion that it’s a copy-paste from some group like CEI.
.
And last practicality: when I copied your post I saw it had blank lines in them. That does help to make it more readable. Unfortunately the server cuts them out. Use a period instead to create a near-blank line.
Now, the Flying Spaghetti Monster is obviously not particualarly worried about global warming, or he would prevent it! And if you want to reduce global warming, you must become a fully fledged pirate! It is the only way forward.
“The natural fluxtuations are so great”

@Black Stash
“That is not science”
Well, if you’re speaking from a scientific point of view then you would know that the usual arbiter in science is what articles say in peer-reviewed journals that are indexed by the major scientific data bases. Not what CEI etc care to put on their websites. I can look up the articles that show the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere to be between ~180-350 ppm untill the 19th century and then rising rapidly, now approaching (or have maybe already surpassed) 500 ppm. That is in contradiction to your statements, so one of us must be wrong. So let’s be more professional about it then. I can look up the scientific literature to support my statements and give you the references if you like. Care to give us your sources of info?

And having your heart in the right place is good, but being well-intentioned alone doesn’t make a person right. So again: what is the foundation of those earlier statements?

Just thinking out loud and does not support either view, if you have an article that is reviewed by 4 other people under a similar agenda, the article has been “peer reviewed” but not necessarily critically reviewed.

“Just thinking out loud and does not support either view, if you have an article that is reviewed by 4 other people under a similar agenda, the article has been “peer reviewed” but not necessarily critically reviewed.”

True, the peer-review process definately isn’t perfect. But the reviewers don’t select papers themselves. The editor of the magazine usually chooses referees for a paper. I know, you could argue that a biased editor selects those referees he know agree with his/her agenda. Still, it’s at least some form of nonsense filter.
@DPG - You are correct. At least there is a process for the review of the papers.
Black Stash,
I know that a lot of people have been arguing with you and you have probably heard enough from the others about how wrong your information is. I would just like to get a few things straight. First of all, you seem to be under the impression that I believe that CO2 is a pollutant. I don’t know where you got that idea. Perhaps my wording was off, but I believe that I said “Us burning fossil fuels emits CO2 (along with many air pollutants which aren’t very good for us anyway).” I am sorry for the misconception, but, no, CO2 is not an air pollutant. The other pollutants are substances such as NOx, which can later react with H2O to produce nitric acid. However, you seem little interested in the science of acid depostition and I don’t wish to bore you. Also, you have mentioned again and again my need to do real research. Perhaps I misread. In any case, I believe it is I who have actually pursued studies in this area whereas you have just been making unsupported claims (I don’t find the internet a very credible source). Also, if you doubt that humans are playing any real role in global warming, then I suggest that you at least try to cut your emissions because of the simple fact that CO2 is not always the only substance produced in fossil fuel combustion. NOx, as I said earlier, and SO2 are created in this way. If you wish me to clarify the dangers of these two substances, ask and I will answer.
Oh, and One-eyed Wonderkin, I commend you on a wonderful point. Global human population is at a dangerously high level. That is probably a worse problem than global warming because it is one of the causes, as I believe you said.
This is a good discussion and everyone is working at staying civil about a real hot-button issue! I think what everyone can agree on is that humanity is in fact destroying the planet and that has got to stop. The mechanisms by which we are doing that are what everyone is debating… but the truth is that we need to treat the planet with more respect.
A big RAmen to that, Rowdiest!

Wench Nikkiee: Hi to you too and thanks for your comments. Yes it has been a while, not that I am ignoring FSM or anything, as I do keep an eye on here. However, the occasional few times I feel the need to make a comment about something, the rest of you have usually more than covered any points I feel may be needed. Thus as I am usually pretty busy and when free have a myriad other sites I keep track of I tend to leave it to the rest of you to keep the odd fundie in line, :) though they seem quite rare nowadays.
However, on this subject (GW) there is a lot of rubbish posted by people who either haven’t done the research/reading themselves or haven’t understood it. This question with regards to CO2 is such an issue, with people not understanding that it is not the total atmospheric CO2 that is the problem, (well it is but not in the way they think, i.e. they always quote the total with respect to what appears a small amount per annum introduced by humans and appear to ask why is the apparently small amount that we introduce such a problem when the total is so much) but the real issue is the percentage of CO2 in the atmosphere. E.g. since the industrial revolution atmospheric percentage of has roughly doubled and it is this doubling that is the worry when it comes to GW.
I could go on, but I would probably be writing for ever to try and cover and refute the many points that those who say that we are not the cause of global warming bring up. Such as the common but mistaken claim that volcanoes annually introduce more CO2 into the atmosphere than man, which with the very, very occasional exception is wrong. However, the site in the link I gave in my OP covers all the points likely brought up by those who deny that we are the main cause as well as having plenty of links to peer reviewed research awaiting any who care to do the research/reading for themselves. Which is what I advise anyone with a genuine interest in GW to do, where they can then see for themselves what the science actually says.
RAmen
Apologies, I made a mistake in my hurry, lesson to self, again :), always check what you type. The increase in atmospheric CO2 since the start of the industrial revolution is not double but about 35%, i.e. up from approx 280ppm to 390ppm. Though the increase I quoted is only of relevance to the accuracy of my post rather than the actual contribution it has made toward GW according to the science.
Another site which covers many of the points brought up about GW by those who refute that humans are responsible in in neat list, though it quite is a long read, is;
http://environment.newscientist.com/channel/earth/dn11462
which has plenty of links to original articles.

what…the…heck, I find it sad that you have to make up and broadcast such fallacies. If I may assume that you are Christian, I shall then point out that we don’t generally walk around telling Christians that Jesus couldn’t possibly be God. Like many others, you must learn tollerance.
@Stereotypical Environmentalist…
“Like many others, you must learn tolerance.”
Indeed! That is something they usually forget, so stuffed are their minds usually with self-righteousness. Mark Twain said “If Christ were here and now there is one thing he would not be—a Christian.”

Thanks for the link John. Good straight forward comprehensive article. :)
Only read through a few of those pages so far, but have downloaded all of them. I have come across nearly all those claims more than one pseudo science forum. Somehow the fundies seem to think spouting the global warming conspiracy canards props up their evilutionist conspiracy claims.

Hi everyone, I’m going to a huge 4th of July party tomorrow, lot of people going to be there. I wish I had $50.. or so dollars, to print up FSM fliers. But I just don’t.:( Stupid paper and ink cost money. Could anybody send me a few bucks? Any money you give me, will go towards paper and ink, for fliers. Thank you. My addy is cpthook5833[at]hotmail[dot]com. Thanks.
Wench Nikkiee: Strangely, or maybe not, many AGW deniers are also creationists or IDiots, though of course not all by any means. However, whether they are or not, many AGW deniers also tend to treat the issue the same way. I.e. ideologically while ignoring the mountain of actual scientific evidence that supports AGW to concentrate on any controversial research, however little merit it has, against AGW. Any controversy invariably being created by themselves, often using the exact same tactics used by creationists and IDiots when arguing against evolution. I.e. quote mining, quoting non peer reviewed research, out right lying and a deluge of ad hominem against supporters of evolution/AGW. Also, again like creationists or IDiots, they rarely do any actual research into the issues themselves, instead relying on the AGW equivalent of sites like Answers in genesis or the DI site for their material.

@John Phillips
Interesting post and I fear you’re all too correct.
Hi Iron John Bonney, DPG and Stereotypical Environmentalist (:))
@John Phillips
Yep spot on in my experience! I see one or a combination of two reasons for that. First, that “it is Gods plan as to what happens to the planet and global warming is not in the holey book…yada.. yada yada.. ”
Secondly, the fundies consider Bush one of their own, (they have on many occasions claimed responsibility for putting him into power via mobilisation of their congregations to vote for him!) and Bush has made it quite clear many times that he “doesn’t like/believe” AGW!
.
Can’t remember the thread now, but not so long ago we had a fundie here arguing that, gods will and not global warming would be responsible for the fate of the planet…erm…therefore it didn’t exist! Gotta love their “logic” :p)
.
And yes, identical tactics! The AGW issue also features relatively prominently on many religion blogs! Blaaagh!!
The religious lunacy in dealing with GW reached its peak for me when a fundie posted a message saying that the melting of the North pole icecap was the beginning of another Noahs flood. Funny that he specifically mentioned the North pole, which is mostly a very large drifting ice cube and melting it does not not change the water level very much.

Hello.
I saw something similar on the MK building in Hong Kong. It was unusual as although the apparition was visible with the naked eye, it did not appear on the photographic film.
I was eating noodles at the time. Are they blessed too?
